How to dimension Assemblies and Subgroups
Bentley Systems Inc 2010 ProStructures
1
We’ll have a look at an example of an assembly containing two groups and a subgroup.
1. BG stands for “Building Group”; all BG’s are one assembly; BG1 is Subgroup of BG2; BG3 is mainpart of the
assembly. The assembly is displayed by a sphere (one out of three options).
2. We’ll have a look at the Detail Style “Groups” and some specific settings.
The Detail Style must be usable for “Groups with sub groups”:

3. The dimensioning “For sub groups” must be checked on:
4. “Sub group details” has to be on:
Attention: The subgroup is actually dimensioned separately and can’t be related to the mainpart!!

5. In order to dimension the mainpart you need to edit “Main Parts/ Total dimension”
…but as you see this can easily lead to collision of the dimensioning of the mainpart and the subgroup!
