PURPOSES OF SMART BOARDS: Accommodates various learning styles of students Helps students brain storm within the classroom and during

lessons Gives students a clear visual of the materials they are learning

(examples) Allows students to play games during down time in between

lessons (sharing/cooperation) Gives students experience with different forms of media, tools

and software Gives teachers creative ways to effectively introduce and

teach lessons to increase understanding Keeps teaching methods and ways or learning modern

(increase technology use)

SMART BOARD LESSON PLANS Smart Boards are great tools for young children in preschool and up One lesson that is extremely easy and effective for young children (preschool-

kindergarten especially) is using the morning calendar lesson. This allows students to learn cross-circular materials (one or more subjects covered in

one). Students learn the months of the year, addition, days of the week, attendance, weather,

number words, place value, graphing and shape-recognition. This lesson plan helps students identify and recognize base skills in literacy, language

arts, math/patterning, spelling and science. This lesson plan can be done everyday with students to help develop skills needed for

kindergarten and success. Lesson Plan Example: http://exchange.smarttech.com/details.html?id=a6ac0d96-4bd3-4125-a616-2ae6677ea4fa

SMART BOARD LESSON PLANS Another lesson plan that is important for young

children is introducing rhyming words (Pre-k to 3rd)

This gives children the opportunity to recognize different words, word family and rhyming words.

Children are able to interact with each other and have hands on experiences by creating rhyming words and writing on the board.

Students gain knowledge in English/language arts.

This lesson allows teachers to adapt the material to the learning level the student is at.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT LESSONS USING SMART BOARDS: Students learn through different

learning styles: Audio, visual, hands-on and social interaction.

This supports UDL in the form that it teaches students which is teaching in multiple ways and providing many resources for teaching students effectively.

This can be used everyday or how often it seems fit within the classroom.

Smart boards can be used during group activities, morning work, introducing new materials and small groups.

HOW TO USE THIS RESOURCE:

These lesson plans can be used to teach and increase students understanding in mathematics, language arts, Spelling, English and word recognition. This tool can teach students how to use modern technology and how to think outside the box which in result can lead to problem solving. Smart boards are supportive to universal design due to the various ways of delivering materials which is very important because instruction is changing in schools and students learn so differently.
