Three Criteria for Rating BuildingEnergy Performance

• 1. Building designation:– More than 50% of gross floor area must be defined

as the 15 ratable Space Types.– The remaining 50% is subject to:

• Parking cannot exceed total building square foot• “Other” Space to be under 10% of building sq ft• “Multifamily Housing” to be under 10% of building

– For Hospital, Other Spaces can only be Data Center,Other, Parking and Swimming Pool.Please refer to Criteria for Rating Building Energy Performance

• 2. Operating Characteristics such as:– 5,000 sq ft with Minimum and maximum sizes– Operate for 30 hours/week– At least once PC– At least 50% average annual occupancyThese vary according to Space Type.

Ratable and Non Ratable Buildings“Other” Spaces

Non Ratable or “ Other “ Spaces:– More than 50% of the building does not

include one of the 14 Eligible Spaces– If 10% of more of the building is “Other” not

ratable.

Campus orsingle building eligibility ?

• EPA’s national energy performance rating system isbased on a statistical analysis of individual buildings, notcampuses of buildings.

• Buildings on a campus must be sub-metered and getseparate energy performance ratings and ENERGYSTAR labels.

Buildings that have multiple towers connected bycommon concourse levels and/or hallways may qualify if,– 1. have seamless connection– 2. common indivisible area between them (cafeteria or atrium;

not walkway)

Step 1. Look up your SDG&E electric andgas bills and locate your eight-digit meternumber on your bill and ten-digitaccount numbers

Step 2. Record the zip code of the buildingyou are benchmarking

Step 3 . Establish an Account, add Propertyand add Space using the proceduresdescribed in Manual Benchmarking earlier.

Enroll in ABS– If you already have added a meter in the past and

would like to include the meter in Automatedbenchmarking, please create a parallel Meter with theAdd Meter link.

– You can actually add the meter account number andmeter number in your existing Meter and have ABSinput previous 36 months of data overriding yourmanual input.

IMPORTANT: If you are applying for the label, runparallel meter accounts until you have compareddata.

What are REC’s

• Tracking for Renewable EnergyCertificates (RECs) is available.

• A REC represents the environmental,social, and other non-power qualitiesassociated with a unit of renewableelectricity.

• You may purchase RECs whether or notyou have on-site renewable energy andtrack them in Portfolio Manager.

• only use it if you have a change in the attributes such asaddition of footage

• NEVER Use this to correct a previous characteristic: thiscould alter your score and CORRUPT your FacilitySummary completely !

– “Correct” link:• Use this link to make changes 90% of the time: the tool will

not go reset of your building data and energy use againstother buildings.

June 7 ProgramUpdate

• New Data Center Space Type - Effective June 7, 2010• Data Centers rating for stand-alone Data Centers and for larger buildings that

contain a combination of Data Center with other ratable space types.• Spaces holding computing equipment such as server racks, used for data

storage and processing, dedicated uninterruptible power supplies and coolingsystems. Not server closet or computer training area.

• Data Requirements

Gross floor areaIT energy configuration (designation of the location of the IT meter)IT energy meters (energy loads will be tracked similar to energy meters)UPS System RedundancyCooling Equipment Redundancy.

As of June 7, 2010, existing Computer Data Center spaces have been convertedto the new Data Center space type. Estimates will be used for the IT energy loaduntil June 2012. After that time, IT energy metering will be required.

Distribution Center can now be entered as space type ”UnrefrigeratedWarehouse and receive a label.
