BEN ALLEN Year 6 Semester 2

What Ben has achieved:The past year has been a positive experience for Ben in exploring the different aspects of Humanities covered in our class. He is talented and passionate about Geography, and was able to consistently produce excellent example of work demonstrating his knowledge of the content. His annotated displays, models and posters

were all of exceptional standard. His reasoning for how he constructs arguments and ideas is well beyond what is expected for year 6. Over the past semester Ben has begun to understand the structure of the Australian Government through our Civics and Citizenship unit on Government. With this year’s federal election, Ben was able to grasp the concept of how Parliament is structured. As we undertook studies of Immigration, Ben was able to make the connections between immigrants and the history of Australia, noting how other cultures have influenced our society. Ben should be proud of how far he has come over the past semester, with his desire to learn and how he applies himself if class. Humanities has been an interest for Ben, and I wish him the best for his studies in the future. Areas for improving/future learning:As Ben begins to engage in high school, he would benefit from studies of the Australian Government at both Federal and State levels. Although he has begun to grasp the basics of these, a deeper knowledge would be beneficial. To help with this, exploring other governments and political structures would be of great influence and aid his understanding.

The school will do the following to support Ben in his learning:In the classroom, we have been able to use some of Ben’s work to show other classes the standard of work we would love to see from other students. His classmates ask him for his help in Geography, and this has been hugely beneficial to his own learning as he articulates and explains these concepts to others.

What you can do at home to help Ben’s progress:Continue to nurture his desire to learn. He is a capable and willing student, with an interest in the Humanities. Encouraging him to study Geography in future years would be of great personal gain for Ben as he is clearly interested and shows excellent understanding of the concepts. To help him gain knowledge in other areas, allow him to explore books and internet sites on Governments so he can create his own understanding of different country’s political structure. Student Comment:This year I have learnt a lot more about Economics and Government in Australia. I love that now I can go shopping and understand how much things cost and why, and also how to work out why companies advertise at particular audiences. I loved the Geography activities we did this year, including AVD’s (Annotated Visual Displays), mapping, models and learning about the effects of weather on our country. Overall, I have had a great year learning in the Humanities. Attendance:Ben has been absent for 3 days this semester.
