We continue to focus on several key areas within this great school that every
child is known and cared for so that they connect to learning, thrive and suc-
ceed. We continue to have a very engaging community that has a strong
sense of ownership. The P&C Executive has met this week following my input
on where the school requires further funding. My role continues to be a very
important role with not just being a business and people manager but to be an
instructional leader to make this great school even greater. As explained to the
parents on P/T nights, we are making our focus on teaching integrated units of
work so that the students can apply their knowledge, skills and capabilities
across a wide range of curriculum areas to acquire a deep mastery of Literacy
and Numeracy, a deeper understanding of science, geography/history skills
and knowledge. The skills of collaboration, communication and critical thinking
are best developed in the context of deep knowledge. How do we continue to
engage our students? To be implemented by stage 3 as a part of their inte-
grated unit, we have bought 4 hummingbird class kits and 16 steam kits, val-
ued at $10,000. These hummingbird kits will allow students to create and pro-
gram robots built from electronic components and craft materials. Students in
stage 3 as part of their literacy unit, ‘Mechanica’ by Lance Balkin will be work-
ing on a number of projects over the semester to use their creative and critical
thinking skills whilst working in small groups. Rubrics of expected outcomes
will give students the success criteria and ownership of their learning.
COMMUNITY SPIRIT
I was a very proud Principal on Monday morning as I attended Arranounbai
with the Leadership team and their parents. Although we did not expect to
walk away with resources for Belrose we have graciously accepted them.
These resources will be available at lunch time for K-6 students in the library.
Part of the television program is shared with you:

MOVING TO HIGHSCHOOL IN 2019
All Year 6 students have been given a ‘Moving into Year 7 in a NSW Government School in 2019’ expression of interest. These forms must
be returned to the office no later than 16 March 2018. The local designated high school has been allocated from the student address that is
currently on school records. Section A needs to be completed by all parents. Section B needs to be completed if your child will be attending
the designated high school indicated. Section C needs to be completed if you wish to send your child to another public high school that is not
the designated high school. If your child is attending a private school in 2019 Section E ‘Placement not Required’ needs to be completed.
Thank you to the children who have already returned their forms.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED !!!
We desperately need more volunteers to assist us in starting
our MultiLit Reading Tutor Program in Stages One and
Two. Can you help for an hour or two once a week?
We are fortunate to have started the year with 3 volunteers,
however for the program to run successfully we need more
helpers.
This program, developed through Macquarie University,
supports students in our school who require a boost with
their reading.
The Reading Tutor Program is part of the MultiLit Program
which was formally called ‘Forest Reading’ here at Belrose P.S. Training and support is offered to
all volunteers.
Volunteers and any enquiries please contact Mrs Jane Cohen through the school office 9452
4426 or [email protected]
Thanking you in anticipation,
Jane Cohen
