Cell Organelles and their Functions

*Double hamburger and glue your homework to the top right

of page 10 in your journal

CellsCells are the basic unit of all living things.IF IT IS ALIVE, IT HAS CELLS!Cell Theory:

– All organisms are made up of one or more cells– The cell is the basic unit of all organisms– all cells come from cells

Two Types of Cells

Cell Membrane

The cell membrane holds the cell together and allows nutrients into the cell. A

Cytoplasmthe watery gel inside a cell. It holds the ORGANelles.

B

MitochondriaORGANelle that produces energy

for the cell.

C

NucleusThe nucleus controls the cell.It contains the cell’s DNA.

D

Endoplasmic ReticulumA network of membranes throughout the

cytoplasm of the cell.It helps to move materials around the cell.

E

Golgi apparatusResponsible for sorting, packaging, and

shipping the proteins produced in the ER.

F

Ribosomes help in the synthesis of proteins. Some ribosomes are found in the cytoplasm, but

most are attached to the endoplasmic reticulum.

GG

Vacuoles

Vacuoles are spaces in the cytoplasm where food and chemicals are stored

H

Cell Wall

Cell Walls are NEVER in animal cellsThey make the cell strong and rigid

I

FlagellaCan be found in both prokaryotic

and eukaryotic cellsUsed for movement J

Card Sort with table

After I check that they are correct, go back and add your analogy word to each organelle listed

Example: nucleus = person in charge
