The lightweight TriMatrix™ Composite Shell uses a special layup of carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass to create the durable but feathery shell of the Star.

The Star’s chin vent has two stages. The upper section sends airflow up the inside of the shield working in tandem with the NutraFog II™ coating to keep the field of vision fog-free.

The Star’s unique shape was derived from open-cockpit auto racing designs that enhance stability and resist lift. The truncated shape keeps the Star calm at speed, while the sculpted chin contours give the helmet a smooth, linear feel when doing head checks. For track days, the Star comes with the Track Strip, a wicker that adds stability at speeds above 130 mph.

Using advanced flow dynamics modeling, wind tunnel testing and rider trials, Bell engineers created a natural airflow engine that literally pulls air through the internal venting system, keeping the rider cool and dry. By opening or closing the FlowAdjust™ vents, the rider can dial in the desired amount of airflow to match conditions.

Lock Mode is the shield’s firmest and quietest setting. It not only locks down the shield, but pulls it tightly to the gasket, creating a water-tight seal. The Friction Mode allows the shield to be freely adjusted from fully closed to fully open and anywhere in between. Crack Mode disengages the shield from the gasket and lifts it about ¼” to help prevent fogging, a particularly useful setting at stop lights. A quick touch of the 3Mode Lever brings the shield back into Lock Mode.

ClickRelease was designed for the quickest, easiest shield swaps ever. To remove, simply fully open the shield and depress the ClickRelease Triggers. For installation, just align shield pivots in the fully open position and push until they click into place. Done.

• Star shields feature Bell’s exclusive NutraFog II® anti-fog, anti-scratch and UV protected coating. There are two types of aftermarket shields for the Star; standard shields in 11 different tints and race shields in five different tints with posts for tear-offs.

• Super lightweight Kevlar®/carbon fiber/fiberglass TriMatrix™ Composite Shell Bell uses a special layup of carbon fiber, Kevlar and fiberglass to create the durable but extremely lightweight TriMatrix Composite Shell of the Star.

• Contour Cut Cheekpads for superior fit and comfort. By curve cutting the Star’s cheekpads instead of bending a linear pad, the helmet has a more natural, comfortable feel on the face and cheeks. One test rider described it as feeling “like the helmet floats around my head.” Not only does it feel nice, it also helps keep the helmet stable on the head.

Street artist Jona Cerwinske is perhaps best known for taking a Sharpie marker to a Lamborghini Gallardo and drawing an amazingly intricate freehanded design on the $200,000 supercar. And while the Lambo might break most people’s budgets, the Bell Star Cerwinske Carbon—the original of which was created in the same manner—is an absolute bargain by comparison.

Derek Hess is a Cleveland-based artist known for highly detailed human form sketches from a muted color palette. Hess’ artwork graces a number of medium, from concert posters to fine art pieces to human skin—his designs appear on no small number of tattoos. Add to that list a Bell helmet as he contributes the Hess LE , a striking yet subtle design for the Bell Star.

Rider/designer/builder extraordinaire Roland Sands is back for another year with a pair of new helmets in addition to his RSD C-Note Star and RSD Skulls Drifter designs that carry over from 2009. The RSD Grunt Drifter recalls Sands’ V-Twin of the same name while the new Vortex will be dressed in the RSD Rose Apocalypse livery.

Chris Wood is well known for his motorcycle helmet designs, mostly in the form of custom-painted lids for pro riders. And while he’s been contributing designs to Bell for a number of years now, his Day of the Dead Star is so impressive we had to put him in the spotlight. Inspired by El Dia de los Muertos—Mexico’s All-Saint’s and All Soul’s Days celebrations—Wood respectfully reflects the colors, symbols and pageantry of this great tradition in his design.

Bell Star Special Edition Roland Sands C-NoteIt’s fairly common for artists to be stingy about their inspiration for a given work. And though it’s obvious Roland took some inspiration from the hundred-dollar bill on this one, there’s still a fair bit of mystery surrounding the RSD C-Note Special Edition Star. Is it a commentary on bling culture? Maybe an homage to capitalism? A reference to the Star’s lofty (yet worth it) price tag? Perhaps it’s a warning to the bareheaded about the cost medical care. Whatever the case, its distinctive design, ornate filigree and multiple layers give the C-Note a finish that would do Benjamin Franklin proud.

The C-Note comes in a special edition metallic print box that resembles a safe. Inside is a custom, cloth lined RSD money bag made by Ogio™.

Bell offers free staff training onlineShop employees earn discounts, free gear

Bell Powersports has contracted with online education site 3point5.com to provide staff training for retailers. Through 3point5’s online campus, Bell dealers and their employees can learn more about the company, its proprietary technologies and product specifics—knowledge that will lead to a more profitable business for the dealer. “Survey after survey shows that the more knowledgeable the people on the sales floor are, the more profitable the store is,” said Bell Vice President of Powersports Tom Larter. “By clinicing shop staff in this interesting, interactive, and rewarding way, we’re helping dealers ring their cash register’s for one of the most profitable categories within P&A—helmets.” Larter noted that dealer acceptance of informal clinics the past couple years was good, but that there was one major downside. “Employee turnover is an issue for anyone in retail management. With people coming and going it’s really inefficient to train someone and then have them quit within a month or two,” he explained. “By us putting the training online there’s no investment required by the dealer, and you don’t need a big group presentation. Staff can just log on and take the training anytime 24 / 7 / 365.” As an incentive, staff who take the online training can get deep discounts on Bell product as well as free Bell merchandise. Other than staff-time—often just a half hour to 45-minutes—there is no cost to the dealer.

Helmet Selection:Bell manufactures a variety of helmets at different price points with different features. All helmets distributed by Bell meet or exceed the United States Department of Transportation Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 218 (“DOT Safety Standard”). Most helmets sold by Bell also meet the Snell Memorial Foundation (“Snell”) M2010 standard. The standards are too lengthy to cover in this catalog, but have been placed on Bell’s website at www.bellpowersports.com, along with a chart prepared by Snell which compares the two. Depending on the type of crash you are in, a helmet certified to meet the Snell M2010 standard may provide protection that a helmet certified to meet only the DOT Safety Standard does not provide. Bell recommends you purchase and wear the helmet which provides the greatest amount of coverage and the best impact protection for your intended uses.

Helmet Fit:To correctly measure your helmet size, measure the circumference of the head, 1 inch (2.5cm) above the eyebrows and ears approximately where you might wear a headband. Then compare this measurement to the sizing chart. Use the size chart as a guide to which helmet size to try on first. If between sizes, start with the next larger size. Helmets should fit snug but not overly tight. Because heads come in various sizes and shapes, Bell highly recommends that you try on the actual helmet before you buy it.
