description

The People's United Party is mounting a challenge to the 2012 General Election due to blatant irregularalities on Election Day. The International observation Team mounted by the OAS in its preliminary report also brought election day irregularities to the forefront. This is a black eye to the quality of democracy in Belize, particularly the large payout of monies to make people vote or toe keep persons from voting, particularly in Belize City...money for votes was the name of the game....The PUP gained 8 seats and the UDP lost 9 seats. the Election outcome--PUP 14 seats, 61,000 votes & UDP 17 seats or 64,000 votes. This is a very narrow margin of win for the UDP.
