11-11

Introduction Prayer

is powerful It allows

us to cast our burdens

on the Lord and re-

ceive guidance and

provision from Him

We can experience

Godrsquos power for daily

living when wersquore

willing to seek Him

earnestly and bow in

reverence Remember

we stand tallest and

strongest on our knees

(Life Principle 17) If

you and I approach

prayer correctly we

can have confidence

that He will respond to

our requests

Nehemiah knew how

to stand tall and

strong on his knees

A When he heard that

Jerusalemrsquos walls and

gates were in ruins

Nehemiah turned to

God in prayer

(Neh 14) As a result

the Lord granted him

favor with King Artax-

erxes The ruler not

only let Nehemiah take

a leave of absence he

also supplied the exiles

with building materials

and military protection

(25-9)

B Time and again

Nehemiah sought the

Lord whenever he

faced a problem He

turned to God for

strength to keep going

despite criticism and

discouragement (41-

5) The Lord gave him

wisdom to know how

to handle critics (61-

3) and to defend the

city against military

attack (418) To their

enemiesrsquo surprise the

Jews rebuilt the wall in

52 days More impor-

tantly spiritual revival

came to Jerusalem as a

result of Nehemiahrsquos

faithfulness

How should we pray

A Recognize that

God is the Sovereign

of the Universe Ne-

hemiah addressed his

prayer to ldquothe great

and awesome Godrdquo

(15) Psalm 10319

says ldquoThe Lord has

established His throne

in the heavens and His

sovereignty rules over

allrdquo Our heavenly Fa-

ther never ceases to be

the ruler and master of

the universe

B Recognize that

God is holy When

Isaiah saw the Lord in

His glory he felt un-

clean even though he

had lived a faithful

righteous life (Isa 61-

6) The picture we see

of God in the book of

Revelation is similar

in its majesty As

humans we all fall

short of His absolute

holiness We should

approach Him with

reverence and awe

The same attitude

prompted Nehemiah to

fast and pray for four

months He looked to

God not himself for

the answer to Jerusa-

lemrsquos problems

miah included himself

when he admitted the

rebellion of his nation

teaches that the Lord

wonrsquot hear our prayers

if wersquore holding onto

unconfessed sin (Ps

(p78) The Quality of

Repetitions ldquoMuscles

canrsquot count They feelhellip

Once you can hold your-

self properly through an

exercise then the num-

ber of reps starts to mat-

ter However if you

canrsquot keep the form then

you donrsquot get much out

of the motionmdashno matter

how many reps you do

One good repetition with

solid form is worth more

then ten fast and sloppy

onesmdashbecause after one

good rep comes two Itrsquos

a place to beginrdquo

We have been talking

about ldquoWait Trainingrdquo

and how while we are in

a time of waiting we

have some preparation

occurring in our inner

man Our faith may be

challenged in this season

of waiting because of the

unseen manifestation of

promises yet God is

calling us to Trust Him

As we read Psalm 37 3-

7 He tells us to trust

Him and do good dwell

in the land and feed on

His faithfulness In this

period of ldquoWait Train-

ingrdquo God is teaching us

just like our physical

muscles canrsquot count our

spiritual faith muscles

must feel In order to do

what is good we have to

get in the right position

and determine to be

faithful in doing one

good repetition of faith-

fulness which will lead

to another good repeti-

tion

Faithfulness over the

small areas of our life

prepares our hearts for

the larger challenges

Strengthening our faith

correctly by repeating

the Word of God pre-

pares our faith to be

strengthened Psalm

3756 Explains our com-

mitment to the Lord

faithfulness and trust in

Him will bring our de-

sires to pass

Karen further explains

that the ldquoperforming of

an exercise is opening

the connection between

the muscles and the

mindsimply a willing-

ness to be quiet and feel

delight ourselves in the

Lord we are opening up

us Psalm 377 takes us

to the quiet place men-

the Lord and wait pa-

tiently for Himrdquo This is

the place where we focus

our faithfulness on God

and do good Sometimes

we are slowly going

through the motions be-

cause our faith is a little

weak God says to us ldquo

feed on His faithfulnessrdquo

while dwelling in the

land Our faithfulness

prepares us for the after-

glow When we are

working out there comes

a time when our muscles

have been stretched and

are sore but there is a re-

newed sense of energy

that is released and a

glow The inner man

will begin to bask in the

Glory of the Lord as you

continue to focus and

train faithfully in Godrsquos

ways

Psalm 3723-24 ldquoThe

steps of a good man are

ordered by the Lord and

He delights in his way

Though he fall he shall

not be utterly cast down

For the Lord upholds

him with His handrdquo

Ingredients

4 (4 ounce) fillets salmon

3 tablespoons prepared Dijon-style mustard

Salt and pepper to taste

14 cup Italian-style dry bread crumbs

14 cup butter melted

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) Line a shallow

baking pan with aluminum foil

Place salmon skin-side down on foil Spread a thin layer of

mustard on the top of each fillet and season with salt and

pepper Top with bread crumbs then drizzle with melted butter

Bake in a preheated oven for 15 minutes or until salmon flakes

easily with a fork

Hey family I hope this

finds you well to do As

we concluded the last

series with an introduc-

tion into the suffering of

Christ Irsquom sure the ques-

tion was posed at some

point ldquoWhyrdquo Why did

God and why did God

have to take on the form

of mankind dwell

among us as the Son and

suffer a brutal ending as

He died for us I hum-

bly suggest the richness

the question ldquoWhy did

Jesus sufferrdquo can be

found in Godrsquos Word as

a whole the book of

Deuteronomy Jesusrsquo

teaching to Nicodemus

and Paulrsquos exhortation to

the church at Rome

Deut 437 Because He

[loved] your forefathers

and chose their descen-

dants after them he

brought you out of Egypt

by his Presence and his

great strength

John 316 For God so

[loved] the world that he

gave his one and only

Son that whoever be-

lieves in him shall not

perish but have eternal

life

Romans 58 But God

demonstrated his own

[love] for us in this

While we were still sin-

ners Christ died for us

From the very moment

man was created Godrsquos

desire was for us to have

dominion (delegated

kingship) over the world

on His behalf (Gen

126) Shortly thereafter

sin entered into the world

and disrupted the Crea-

tor Kingrsquos plan and

therefor marring our re-

lationship and standing

with God (Gen 37-10)

Understanding that He

could no longer dwell

among us in fellowship

(Gen 323) because of

the required and conse-

quential separation (Is

592) sin created that

also brought about death

to all (Rom 512) He

realized that the only

way His creation would

ever be able to enjoy the

restored fellowship with

their Father a propitia-

tion would be required

The second being of the

Trinity was needed His

Son The word [love]

speaks to lsquowhyrsquo God

immediately went into

action to bridge the gap

leading to death and pay

our wages by the blood

stripes and suffering of

His Son (Is 535 Rom

623 I John 49-10) So

because of His love for

us and His awareness

that we needed a per-

fectly lived and com-

pleted substitute for

mankindrsquos sin God who

knew no sin came to

earth in the form of flesh

and became sin endured

the suffering punishment

you and I deserved on

the cross AS and WITH

our sins And upon His

last breath Jesus af-

forded us the opportunity

to be restored back into

the righteousness of God

(John 112 Rom 83-4 1

Cor 521) [That truth

brings me to a place of

total awe of His love for

me hmm Hersquos a GOOD

God]

I hope to have begun

painting the lsquowhyrsquo im-

agery of Godrsquos decision

to send His Son on our

behalf itrsquos simply be-

cause of love But what

about Jesus lsquowhyrsquo did

Jesus suffer and die for

me Paul tells us in

Ephesians 51 that Jesus

Christ loved us enough

to give Himself for us as

a fragrant offering and

sacrifice to God Paul

also tells us in Philippi-

ans 26-8 that Christ Je-

sus being in the very

nature of God didnrsquot

overly esteem Himself

and in fact made himself

nothing He emptied

Himself by the laying

down of His glory and

became a servant In the

original Greek text the

imagery of Jesus taking

on the form of a servant

is pictured in the word

equivalent of ldquoslaverdquo

Jesus loved us so much

that He came to earth in

human form and took on

the totally submissive

role of a slave to the will

of His Father and as a

slave that obeyed the will

of the Father which was

death on the cross as

reasonhellipJesus loved us

so much that His heart

wanted to truly imitate

that of His Fatherrsquos

Jesus knew the one way

of imitating His Father

was to have a forgiving

spirit Jesus loved us and

His Father so much that

He modeled His Fatherrsquos

loving forgiveness per-

fectly to His purposersquos

completion crucifixion

He did so by happily

forgiving us for the very

sins that brought about

the conviction to death

beating persecution and

alienation from God that

concluded with Him be-

ing placed on the cross to

hang bleed and die IN

OUR PLACE Thatrsquos

how much Jesus loved

us and lsquowhyrsquo Jesus still

loves us He really

wanted to be like His

Daddy He really

wanted to perfectly

model His Fatherrsquos lov-

ing forgiveness and hu-

mility even if it meant

dying for us All be-

cause of love Paul en-

courages us in Eph 51-2

and Phil 25 to ldquoBerdquo imi-

tators (models) of God

the Father and God the

Sonrsquos love forgiveness

and attitude (Pray about

that for a moment the

importance of constantly

Imitating Godrsquos loving

humility and forgive-

ness)

Isaiah tells us in 535

ldquoBut He was pierced for

our transgressions He

was crushed for our

iniquities the punish-

peace was upon Him

and by his wounds we

are healedrdquo Jesusrsquo flesh

was beaten and pierced

because He loved us

Jesusrsquo spirit was crushed

when He felt the alien-

ation of His Father while

on the cross because He

loved us The punish-

ment that was due you

and I was lovingly ac-

cepted by Jesus because

He loved us Jesus

brought about the heal-

ing (equivalent to for-

giveness) for our selfish-

ness pride and blatantly

disobedient sin by His

suffering work in Jerusa-

lem and on Calvaryrsquos

mountain Because He

Loved Us God loved us

so much that He will-

ingly gave the only pos-

sible perfect payment for

our sin as restitution His

Son and all the suffering
