1.0 INTRODUCTION1.1 BACKGROUND OF STUDYThere are lots of methods used by student to be a good scorer whatever field they are

studying in especially university student. A university student needs to be more initiative to look

for extra note by their own. Some students go to online learning to search for references. Internet

was first introduced in early 1960s (Howe, 2010). Since its inception, has also developed the

usage of it. Online learning was introduced in 1978. Online means that accessing internet while

online learning give a definition learning method using certain resource via computer (Carliner,

2004). Online learning has grown tremendously over the past several years as technology has

been integrated into education and training (Smart, 2006). Online learning is an important

starting point for exploring the use of technology. Online learning is one of the opportunities for

the student to involve in study technique using the latest technology. According to Ryan (2001),

online learning can be implemented in a variety of ways, such as through the use of self-paced

independent study units, asynchronous interactive session or synchronous interactive settings.

Besides that, online learning involves many type of education material and the learner should be

    focus in learning process.

Online learning defined as instruction delivered electronically via the internet, intranet, or

multimedia platforms such as CD-ROM or DVD (Hall, 2003; ONeill, Singh & O Donoghue,

2004). According to Romiszowski (2004), online learning educational activities that are carried

out by individuals or groups working online or offline and synchronously or asynchronous via

networked or standalone computers and other electronic devices. The other word of online

learning was online instruction to a remote audience, used the web as the medium (Khan, 1997).

Carliner (1999) stated that educational material that is presented on a computer. Besides that,

online learning allows participants to collapse time and space (Cole, 2000). Different terms havebeen use to define online learning include e-learning, internet learning, distributed learning, web-

based learning and distance learning. All this terms represent that learner is at a distance from

    instructor.

According to Kupczynski(2011), number of time student entered the online courses will

indicate whether the student have achievement or not. Most of the student accessing internet was

to attend classroom activities (Robert B. Kvavik, 2011) schedule in the student portal. However,

student did not have enough time to online learning very often because the need to finish up

    assignment gave by lecturer.

According to Alan R. Roper (2007), online learning activity is very useful to student.

There are some activities are very useful to them like make online discussion. Online discussion

will help student with discussion that allows students and instructors to interact are asynchronous

time. Student who incorporates a plan for regular communication with their classmates into their

overall course schedule will have greater success in their online course. Other than that, online

learning activities include make questions useful to your learning. Student can also asking any

question to fellow student and instructor, it can help them to understand the principles and

practices professionals in the field face on daily basis. Furthermore, they can make connections

with fellow student. The student can extend classroom discussion beyond the traditional

boundaries of physical class time. Student can also communicate with instructor to solve their

problem and ask question about their topic. So that, successful online student share their secrets

for getting the most from online classes.

There have been studied that all student will access to the internet (Robert B.

Kvavik,2011). Nowadays there are variety of internet connection that can be used as application

to go online learning. Robert B. Kvavik (2011) cited that most student that often go in the

campus using university network to access internet. Instead of using university network, student

also using broadband service as the application because surfing internet using university

networks were too slow that will conducted to several problem faced by student. Other than

using university network and broadband, student also chose to use modem or wi-fi provided by

    facilities.

According to Jeimzu edited by Sarah Malburg (2010), advantages to online learning

include flexibility to attend classes, study and interact when it is convenience. This flexibility is

often a necessity rather than a luxury for students who are often managing another work. Besides

that, student can attend during their lunch hour, at night, or virtually any other time without

worrying about needing to park or make it to specific location in a bad weather. The other

enrich the learning experience, to do more than what can be done in face to face or other

    approaches.

The purpose of the research is to know the perception of CS2273A student of UiTM Shah

Alam on online learning. The research report was to explore about online learning and their

    future needs for student.

The objectives of this report are to investigate the student knowledge about online

learning, the frequency the doing online learning, the useful of learning activities, student

application used to do online learning, advantages, limitation faced by student while go to online

learning process, what make online learner successful and the future needs of online learning.

    3.6 Limitation/Problem of Online learning

In conclusion, the largest percentage face by students is screen loads are too slow. It can be

concluded that the most common problem faced by respondent was screen load were too slow.

This is because most student surfing internet inside the campus. In that case, the server will turn

slow when there are lots of student connecting within one server. Second highest problem chose

by respondents are experienced problem registering or navigating at website. It could also due

to same reason as the first issue which is slow server. Next highest difficulties faced by student

are experience losing saved completed work. This could be due to virus detected in computer.

The respondent may be didnt have any internet security in their computer. The least popular

problem limitation was online learning information not sufficiently or limited value. This could

be due to there are no guidance from the experts to go to good website with more valuable

    information.

    3.7 Successful of Online learning

It can be concluded that be open-minded about sharing life work and education experiences

is the most popular respondents thought on successful learner in online learning. This could be

due to most of the respondents could freely share their experiences but of course nothing with

personal privacies. Secondly, time management of the learner is aspect of the successfulness of

the online learner because a good learner will know how to manage their time no matter what

    4.0RECOMMENDATIONS4.0Level of Knowledge

Finding indicates that online learning is the program that using computer and must

connect to the internet. Every student must have their own computer and facilities to

connect to the internet. Besides that, every faculty must prepare WIFI facilities for use to

student to connect to the internet and they can use it to online learning at leisure time

before or after class. In addition, student should know how the right way to learn with

online learning to make learning become meaningful and useful to themselves. The

lecturer must exposure to their student about online learning and make them know it is

important and one of the way to study. Student will understand and they will attract to

    study using online learning.

    4.2 Level of Frequency

Finding indicated that the respondent not doing online learning very often.

Therefore, lecturer should take part in this issue which is to put more exercises and note

in I-learn. So that student will make more effort to online learning. This could help them

to score in subject they study in. Lecturer participation will increase the number of

student go to online learning provided by the university such as I-learn. However student

themselves should have initiative to find other sources of references take make they

understand on subject they could not understand in class.

4.3Useful online learning activities. It is recommended that student must make online learning activities more meaningful

and good to their study. They should use this with a right way and have online protection.

Furthermore, instructor must make the conversation between students more attractive.

Other than that, online learning should include a variety of learning activities to help

student achieve the lessons learning outcome and to cater for the individual needs. The

  • 8/2/2019 Bel Report (2)

    28/30

    28

materials of online learning should include activities for the different styles, so that

learners can select appropriate activities based on their preferred learning style.

Furthermore, lecturer must add more note or information about the topic that student want

to know. Information should be presented in different modes to facilitate processing and

transferring it to long term memory. Besides that, the instructor must renew the note in

every session. Then, online learning activities will useful to our student.

    4.4Types of Applications

Findings indicated that majority of student using wi-fi provided by campus which is

the responsibilities lying on the university to make the campus internet connection can

be easily access by student in the campus. For students using broadband, once again the

university must play their role to open at least one broadband service branch in the

campus. Therefore, students can refer to the kiosk for any enquiries of their broadband

    service.

    4.5 Advantages of Online Learning

Findings indicated that the student felt that many advantages can we get from online

learning. Online learning centre must give great information and show that this program is

systematic to student. They must improve their blog to make sure the student more

interested and the online materials must be update, and learners can see the change

immediately. This is will make student always want to use online learning as their way to

study. Other than that, student can influence their friend to study using online learning and

tell them the advantages of the online learning. Besides that, online instructor should be

visible in the classroom and let students know that they are aware of what students aredoing. Furthermore, have a certain students that are not participating should be contacted

by the instructor to help re-establish a sense of personal connection.
