Temple Of HeavenThis enormous park was built in the early15th Century, around the same time theForbidden City was constructed. The parkhosts several intriguing buildings. In thenorth of the park, a stone carved stairwayleads up to the entrance of the Hall ofPrayer for Good Harvests, with itscylindrical blue-tiled roof and a beautifullydecorated ceiling. It was struck bylightning and burnt to the ground in 1889,but was carefully reconstructed thefollowing year. The Hall of Abstinence wasused by emperors for fasting. AirportThe Beijing Capital International Airport islocated around 27 kilometers north ofBeijing´s city centre. At present, theairport consists of three terminals.Philippine Airlines operates in Terminal 2.

The cheapest way to into town is to take



CAAC´s comfortable airport shuttle bus.Tickets cost RMB 16 and the ride takesbetween 40-90 minutes, depending ontraffic and origin/destination. The shuttlesleave the airport from outside gates 11-13in the arrival level of Terminal 2. Busesdepart every 15-30 minutes.

There is also an airport express train calledABC or Airport to Beijing City. The airportexpress covers the 27.3 km distancebetween the airport and the city in 18minutes, connecting Terminals 2 and 3, toSanyuanxiao station in Line 10 andDongzhimen station in Line 2. The one wayticket price is RMB 25.00.

Public TransportThe subway is the best way to movearound the city and avoid traffic jams inBeijing. Currently, there are 8 lines inoperations, including the newly-openedABC, or Airport to Beijing City airport line,Line 10 and the Olympic Branch line.

The five existing lines are, Line 1, Line 2 orthe Loop Line, Line 5, Line 13 and theBatong Line. The subway runs from 05:00to midnight daily. Subway stations aremarked by blue signs with a "D" (for Ditieor subway) in a circle. Tickets cost RMB 2,regardless of distance or destination. Routesigns are in Bilingual.

TaxiTaxis are the default mode oftransportation for most foreigners inBeijing. As much as 3M people take thecab everyday so fear not, you will neverran out of taxis in this city. There are atleast 70,000 cabs in Beijing. The flagfallroute is RMB 10.00 for the first threekilometer during the day and RMB 11 from23:00 until 05:00. The costs of a ride is

RMB 2 per kilometer, RMB 3 after 15kilometers. Have your destination writtendown in Chinese.

Beijing taxi drivers are generally honestand friendly. Expect to get your change.Tipping is discouraged.

Taxi from the airport to the city centretakes approximately around 50 minutes,depending on the traffic for roughly RMB90, inclusive of a RMB 10 toll fee. Ask foryour receipt by saying "Fapiao."
