Ordination Trees were just beginning to bud as 800 persons gathered at St. Mary Magdalen Parish for the regional charismatic conference organized by the Catholic Center for Charismatic Renewal under the direction of Father Bob Hogan, BBD. Like a drum beat, the theme of the conference sounded in each of the talks: “Strong Disciples, Yes! Controlled by the Culture, No!” Catholic radio evangelist Jesse Romero (pictured on next page) spoke to both the English and the Spanish track, but other speakers hammered home the message. Mary Ann Parks, CEO and Executive Director

St. Henry’s and St. Philip of Jesus parishes are just five minutes apart, but that is the only thing that eases running two parishes without bilocation (St. Padre Pio, help!). Even so he has imbued the parishes with the charism of the Brothers of the Beloved Disciple, provided workshops and healing Masses. The Archdiocesan Charismatic
Center is located in St. Henry’s Parish and he is the director of it. Brother Ruben translates his homilies into Spanish with a Tejano flavor. Father Bob recorded five programs for EWTN in March and will speak at a charismatic conference in Honolulu in July.

of Project Rachel San Antonio (pictured above), a ministry to post-abortion women, gave a challenging presentation on “Women and the Culture,” and a panel of three young adults (pictured above) told of the challenges and opportunities faced by their age group in today’s world. One of them, our Brother and deacon Sean Stilson, BBD, was joined by Matthew Arizmendez and Celeste Ramirez, both leaders of “Tongues of Fire” Young Adult prayer group at St. Paul’s parish. Gerardo Garcia, who has spoken on EWTN radio and TV and Radio Católico Mundial spoke to the Spanish-speaking track.

When David was four years old he was treated for a malignant tumor attached to the spinal cord in his neck. When he was seven the tumor was growing, but since it was embedded in his spinal cord the doctors said they were unable to remove it. David’s grandfather Robert Maldonado brought him to our house for prayer. When the next x-ray was taken the tumor had shrunk and had moved away from the spinal cord and David was on his way to recovery, “Let the children come to me,” Jesus said, and David is one of them!

UNBOUND is a special ministry of gentle deliverance from oppressive spirits developed by Neal Lozano. On February 17 Father John Francis (foreground, seated) brought two speakers from Michigan, John and Michelle Kazanjian for an UNBOUND conference at our parish. They stayed in San Antonio for a week and the following Saturday taught those who wished how to minister prayer for inner freedom. There was an enthusiastic response. Pictured above: Michelle and John Kazanjian, presenters of the “Unbound” conference, are welcomed to the BBD Community by Father George.

Trained by leaders from St. Boniface parish in Pembroke Pines Florida, where the cell structure has been very successful in energizing parishioners to become apostolic, members of St. Mary Magdalen Parish have begun to be clustered in small units for growth and evangelization. They meet bi-weekly for Bible study and animation and as they grow they split into new cells. Father John Francis, BBD, has been the animator of this movement under the blessing of Fr. Will Combs, BBD, pastor (right, foreground).

When even a little snow carpets our lawn, as it did in January, you can make a Texas-sized snowball out of it—and gather the leaves as well.
