Behold…God’ Pattern

Heb. 8:5

Hebrews 8:5 "Who serve the copy and shadow of the

heavenly things, as Moses was divinely instructed when he was about to make the tabernacle. For He said, "See that you make all things according to the pattern shown you on the mountain" (Hebrews 8:5)

Our Great Need! Jeremiah 20:23-25

23 O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps. (We need guidance ,help, direction..)

24 O Lord, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.

25 Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

The Bible teaches that God gave a pattern in O.T.

Exodus 25:9 9 According to all that I shew thee, after

the pattern of the tabernacle, and the pattern of all the instruments thereof, even so shall ye make it.

Exodus 25:40 And look that thou make them after their

pattern, which was shewed thee in the mount.

NOTICE 3 outstanding things from these verses God gave Moses a Pattern

God showed Him the Pattern

God said to Moses…you make it as I told You and as I Showed you!

The Meaning of the word “Pattern” It literally means, "structure; by

implication. a model, resemblance:--figure, form, likeness, pattern, similitude."

Pattern: “ an exact image to be copied, an exact model to be imitated, an example that would serve as a warning, a pattern to be copied. “

THE OLD TESTAMENT DECLARES THAT THERE WAS A PATTERN FOR THE WORK OF GOD'S PEOPLE.

Numbers 8:4 - "4 And this work of the candlestick was of beaten gold, unto the shaft thereof, unto the flowers thereof, was beaten work: according unto the pattern which the Lord had shewed Moses, so he made the candlestick.

Examples of the Old Testament

1. Noah and the building of the Ark. (Genesis 6:13-16) details concerning the building of the Ark. a. The ark would be made out of gopher wood. b. Rooms would be made in it. c. It would be sealed with pitch both within and without. d. There were exact measurements - three hundred cubits

long, fifty cubits wide, and thirty cubits high. e. There would be a single window with a single door. There

would also be three stories. f. The instructions were exact, clear, and constituted a

pattern for Noah to use in the building of the ark. g. What was the result? "Thus did Noah; according to all

that God commanded him, so did he." (Genesis 6:22)

2. In Exodus 25: God instructed Moses concerning the building of the tabernacle. “a. Ex. 25:9 & vs. 40 we are reminded that it is according to

the pattern shown on the Mount. b. God gave directions as to the colors to be used. c. Ex.25:10-22 God gives exact instructions concerning the

Ark of the Covenant. It tells the materials to be used- gold and shittim wood. It gives exact details of the cherubim on the top of the Ark.

d. Ex.25:23ff we read of exact instruction concerning the table for shewbread, the candlesticks, and all the other utensils.”

#3 In Joshua 6,God tells Joshua how to take the city of Jericho.

a. The Israelites marched around the walls once for 6 days.

b. On the 7th day, they were to march around 7 times.

c. V.20 tells us that the people did all of these things. What happened? The city walls fell flat.

God has a Pattern For us to FollowTODAY!!

He has not left us to just decide the way we want to live and it will be alright with Him, He has not left us to worship any way we Want to…He tells us Who to worship, How To worship, and When! John 4:23,24; Matt. 4:10; Acts 20:7

NECESSARY FOR US TO LIVE GODLY!

The Power of

Examples found in God’s word !!

1 Corinthians 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Philippians 3:17 - Brethren, be followers together of me,

and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.

1 Thessalonians 1:7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia.

2 Thessalonians 3:9 - Not because we have not power, but to make ourselves an ensample unto you to follow us.

1 Timothy 4:12 - Let no man despise thy

youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

1 Peter 5:3 - Neither as being lords over

God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.

Listen to God! 1. John 13:15 - "For I have given you an

example, that you should do as I have done to you.

2. Hebrews 4:11 - Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience.

James 5:10 - My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and patience.

SO Many LACK knowledge of God’s Word!

Christians are bound to pass on the truth received by the apostles from Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Matthew 28:18-20 The apostles were commanded to teach what Jesus had taught them and those disciples in turn would do the same thing.

Pass the truth on….WE MUST DOTHAT TODAY!!!

2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.

Fathers, Mothers, THIS IS A MUST!

Matt. 28:18-20; 2 Tim. 2:2 teach that there are truths that the apostles

had received, these same truths were to be taught to the next generation of disciples.

Are we doing that at O’Neal??

Christians are not to look to the words of men over the words delivered from God. Matt. 15:9

Christians will be judged by the words of Christ.

John 12:48 - He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day.

If the words of Christ are to judge us, then there are particulars that are binding.

We NEED to know those words!

Christians are to not either go beyond or change the truth of God's word. 2 John 9-11 9 Whosoever transgresseth, and

abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God. He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.

10 If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:

11 For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.

2 John 9-11 teaches that we will not have the blessings of God if we do not abide in the doctrine of Christ.

If there is no pattern there is no doctrine to not abide in.

There is such a pattern…Behold, God’s Pattern!... Don’t encourage anyone in

Anything that is ‘contrary to God’s truth!”

DON’T ADD…DON’T TAKE AWAY! Revelation 22:18-19 18 For I testify unto

every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:

19 And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.

“Revelation 22:19-19 teaches, specifically about the book of Revelation and in general about all inspired words, that we cannot either add to or take away from the word. If there is no pattern, then how could we be commanded to not add or take away from the word.? “

What is the result OF NOT CONTINUING IN THE PATTERN THAT GOD HAS GIVEN?

It cuts us off from the blessings of Almighty God. Galatians 1:6-9 I marvel that ye are so

soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7 Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

What if one does not continue in theGospel? If one does not continue in the gospel that Paul

had given to them they would be cut off from God.

This teaches 1) Paul taught a pattern for their adherence,

and 2) That strict adherence was necessary for

Christians to receive the continued blessings of God, and

3) That abandonment of the pattern meant a loss of salvation.

Behold, God’s Pattern! Man needs direction under the New Testament as men needed it under the Old! Why do we think that God has left us To do whatever we want and this will be Okay with God??

There was a pattern for God's people under the Old Law.

There is a pattern for God's people today.

We MUST search God’s Word…and continue in God’s Pattern!

I Tim. 4: 16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
