BEGINNING STRING ORCHESTRA Grade 2½ The Double Stomp …
Transcript of BEGINNING STRING ORCHESTRA Grade 2½ The Double Stomp …
Please note: Our band and orchestra music is now being collated by an automatic high-speed system. The enclosed parts are now sorted by page count, rather than score order.
NOTE FROM THE EDITOR
All Belwin string parts have been carefully bowed and fingered appropriately by level. The Yellow Very Beginning series includes many bowings as well as reminder fingerings for first-time readers. The Red Beginning series includes frequent bowings to assist younger players. Fingerings for altered pitches are often marked. The Green Intermediate series includes appropriately placed bowings for middle-level students. Fingerings and positions are marked for notes beyond first position. The Blue Concert series includes bowings appropriate for the experienced high school player. Fingerings and position markings are indicated for difficult passages.

NOTES TO THE CONDUCTOR
The Double Stomp Romp was written for the string students of the Bedford, MI schools. The high school and middle school mascots are the mule and the bronco. What do these magnificent animals have in common? They both have a kick. In fact, they kick with both back hoofs at the same time. Just imagine scenes from a Hollywood western where stubborn mules and bucking broncos let loose! There are a series of “double stomp” sound effects spread throughout the piece. They happen in a variety of different rhythmic combinations but always in pairs. Every section has the opportunity to play the infectious melody at some point in the piece and can remain in 1st position throughout. The first violins have the option to move to 3rd position at points depending on the technical level of the orchestra. The stomps can be achieved with players alternating between their left and right feet. If basses are standing they will need to use one foot for both stomps. All stomps are indicated with an X notation in the parts. This is one of those tunes that is just plain fun to play and builds rhythmic skills.
