Oscar Gill’s “The Horses” Fanfare to be performed at the Opera House Year 8 student Oscar Gill’s musical composition “The Horses” Fanfare was selected from over 100 entries from across Australia to be performed at the Sydney Opera House.

He is one of eight young composers who were given the opportunity to workshop their compositions with the Australian Youth Orchestra and renowned Australian composer Nicholas Vines.

Oscar entered the Fanfare Competition, an Artology, Sydney Opera House and Australian Youth Orchestra Project which invites young Australians aged 12 to 21 to submit a 30-second piece of music to be played to assist the cue bells at the Sydney Opera House

The competition offers young people an opportunity to professionally develop and refine their compositions with guidance from a prominent Australian composer and work with a professional orchestra and leading conductor to record their works.

Congratulations Oscar!

NINES WITH THE BOMBERS Nines! This is a game that the family can play together. Yep mum, Dad and the kids over the age of say 8 or 9.

It’s pretty fast so the kids might be able to run the legs off the old man and it’s about kicking and catching so the oldies might have a bit of an advantage there.

The Bega Bombers will stage a spring nines mixed age/gender competition starting with registrations on

Wednesday. 24 August at 4.00 at the showground.

They’ll form teams of eleven players a mix of youngsters and parents, even grandparents male and female and they’ll have fun and get fit every Wednesday afternoon with a series of games and social sessions from 4.30.

Registration costs $35 and is capped at $100 for as many family members as want to play. Can I register and play without mum and dad? Yes of course you can .Are boys and girls welcome? You bet. How old do I need to be? Say eight or nine and don’t worry there’s no contact so you won’t get hurt.

Need to know some more? Ring Travis on 0438872475 or be at the Showground Wed 24 August from 4 o’clock. Where else can all the members of a family have fun and get fit together?

Bega Valley Athletics Club Come and Try Afternoon

Date: Thursday September 15 Time: 5.00 – 6.00 pm

Venue: Bega Athletics Field, Bega St. (behind Bega Valley Public School)

The 2016/17 Little Athletics season, which runs from October to March, is about to commence. Little Athletics is all about family, fun and fitness. Athletes develop basic running, jumping and throwing skills by participating in highly active training sessions and are eligible to compete in Little Athletics ACT carnivals.

Children who are in the U7 – U17 age group are welcome to join the Bega Valley Athletics Club.

A parent must come with their child/children to all training afternoons and help run events for the athletes. The athletics sessions involve age groups from U7 - U17 participating in many running, jumping and throwing events. This requires significantly more adult support than other sports. The club familiarizes parents with the events and how to help.

If the Come & Try is cancelled due to wet weather, children are welcome to come to the first training afternoon on Thursday October 13, from 5.00 - 6.30 pm.

Please email for more information. Email - [email protected]
