Before You Think About UX, Make Sure You've Considered the User Experience
Transcript of Before You Think About UX, Make Sure You've Considered the User Experience
User Experience (in Digital)• All about how people experience your
website• Seems to be our UX people test, research
and define all manner of journey and interface
‘User’• In real terms, it is someone engaged
enough to be using your product• Visitors are really just ‘testing’ your product• We loved and hated ‘customer’ very
quickly• It doesn’t matter what we call them
Do we really get it?• We don’t really know who we’re dealing
with• We don’t really know how we’re dealing
with them
Let’s not forget…• UX as we know it, on the web, is relatively
new – especially when it comes to clients actually knowing they need it– Needing it competitively is also fairly recent
It’s not new, though• It happens elsewhere, routinely• Brand Strategy is all about UX.
• The REAL UX.
User Experience is…• How your users / visitors / testers /
customers experience you• And your brand• And your products• And your affiliations
User Experience is…• It’s before they hit your site.• Before they know about you or your
products.• And after they’ve left your site.
User Experience is…• It’s much more than just how easy it was
to use your search or find your phone number
User Experience is…• It’s not just about making sure they find
your content effortlessly and that every visit turns into a sale
User Experience can…• Drive traffic to your site and maintain the
love they felt when they decided to visit• Drive traffic back to your site 3 months
from now• Drive people to drive other people to your
site (DRIVE!)
We mentioned brand strategy• When you put a brand strategy together, you
routinely do end to end user experience;– You find out how people will discover and
experience you to start with– And how they will go through a process to the end– It’s about the web, print, word of mouth,
advertising; everything.
And that matters• 10 years ago, you beat your competitors if you
had a website• 5 years ago, you beat them with a great looking
website that had basic personalisation• 2 years ago, you focused on ‘user experience’
to provide tailored user journeys
• The web is just a touch point in a much wider UX journey.
• Virtually no project or company today will exist purely on the web (they might be close).
• True user experience is about forming opinion and providing a positive connection on and off site.
