Land and Water in the Northeast
Niagara Falls is found
on the border of Canada and the United States between Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. Many 1,000’s of years ago, glaciers (huge sheets of ice that covers land)covered the area that is now known as the
Northeast Region. When these glaciers melted, they carved out the Great Lakes and the Niagara Gorge. A gorge is a deep, narrow valley that is usually associated with a river or stream. At Niagara Falls, the Niagara River plunges into the Niagara Gorge creating Niagara Falls. The Niagara Falls are visited by millions of tourists each year. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wB6gHz8XHDI
Uses of Niagara FallsNiagara Falls generate a lot of money for the area in the form of
tourism.People have found a way to use the power called HYDROPOWER
(power made by capturing the energy of flowing water) to create electricity. The electricity produced by the power of water is called Hydro Electricity. Niagara Falls is the largest producer of electricity in New York. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aFmQEP7uD20&list=PL6CA716D53824FFD7

The coastline of the Northeast Region ranges from sandy beaches to rocky cliffs.

Can you compare and contrast these two coastlines?
Lighthouses of the Northeast
* Light houses are towers with bright lights that shine out over bodies of water to warn ships of the nearby coastline and to tell ships their location. The pattern of the flashing lights and the pattern of the colors of the lighthouse help sailors know where they are.
