INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE:

Important notes: The program evaluates a ration against requirements only for an animal of the described weight and eatting the described amount of feed.

Rations fed over a range of cattle weights and feed intakes should be reevaluated over the entire range of circumstances.

FOR A NEW RATION NOTE: hit F9 to recalculate before viewing results.

This program (AutoNRC) can be used for ration evaluation or formulation. Hit F9 to recalculate often.

The program does not predict performance over a range of cattle weights and feed intakes.

1st: Save the spreadsheet under a NEW NAME …(File, SaveAs, ... REMAME spreadsheet and Select folder used to store a producer's rations).

2nd: Move the active cell to "D16", feed dry matter per day. Enter the amount expected to feed.

Page 3: Beef-Ration-Calculator.xls

Note: This programs calculates evaluates requirements and estimates performance for a specific weight of cattle … For a ration fed over wide range of weight … evaluate at 50 to 100 lb increments of cattle weight.

Note: This programs will NOT tranfer the ingredients you want to use from the ingredient … You are welcome to unprotect the spreadsheet and write the programming that would accomplish the ingredient tranfer …

Gain and Efficiency estimates are found in cells M17 & M18. Adjustments to predicted Gain and Efficiency can be made in the Preformance Adjuster (N15 .. P19). This adjuster can be used to reflect the influence of variables such as environmental factors, new technology, etc.

The Ration Analysis and Evaluation Box can be viewed from cells "B22" through "K49" scroll down to view Ration Analysis and Evaluation Box. The ration is compared to NRC requirements in cells B22 .. K49 Note: For ration evaluation … enter the amount of each ingredient used in the ration and hit F9 and scroll down to review the results (B22..K49).

This is accomplished by adjusting the amount of the ingredients used (cells C4..C12) until the ration is balanced. Additional ingredients may need to be selected to address a "DEFICIENT" or "TOXIC" NRC Recommendation STATUS

Note: There is no energy requiement ... cells under STATUS that corrispond with ratin energy values (J24..J27) will be blank. the energy in the ration will determine the estimated daily gain. If the animal is being offered less energy than is required to gain

the amount of addtive displayed in bold is the amount of additive as a % of ration on an Air Dry Basis (ADB = 90% dry)Warning: All additives should be hand calculated to insure the proper dose of additive is being added to a ration.

Note for "Pounds Ingredient" (column F): The first three ingredients are rounded to one decimal point … remaining ingredients to two decimals. Note for "Acumulative Scale Weight - Actual" (column H): All ingredients are rounded to two decimal points.

Column J in the BATCH SHEET TABLE rounds to nearest 10 pounds … this meets the needs of most feed truck scales.Save spreadsheet

3rd: Move to cell "D17", animal weight lbs. Enter the weight of animals to be fed.

4th: Move to cell "D18", CATTLE TYPE. Enter a number from 1- 9 until the cattle type you need displays.5th: Select all the BLUE numbers in column "A" from "A4 to A12" and DELETE (hit Del key).6th: Select all the BLUE numbers in column "C" from "C4 to C12" and DELETE (hit Del key).7th: Hold the CTRL key and Shift key down and hit the "F" key. VIEW RATION:

14th: To balance the ration, adjust the amount of the available ingredients used until the NRC requirements are met. ("Adequate" or "Excessive")

1st: Hold down the CTRL key and Shift key and hit the "F" key. (the cursor will move to cell BD4)

2nd: Use the arrow keys to move to the feed ingredient to be edited … then … Use the arrow keys to move to the feed analysis to be edited.3rd: Enter the analysis value of feed ingredient.

Hold the CTRL key and Shift key down and hit the "F" key. (the cursor will move to cell BD4)Use the arrow keys to move the cursor to a line that has "Add New Ingredient Here" in column BC.Enter the name of the new ingredient in the cell that says "Add New Ingredient Here"

This program can be used to develop supplements that can be made at feed mills and added to ingredients (hay-silage-grains)

1st: Develop a complete balanced ration in which ingredient amounts Total in cell C14 is 100.

4th: Delete all ingredient numbers (column A beginning at A4) to added at the cattle operation (hay, silage & grains).

5th: The remaining ingredients are the supplement ingredients and the amounts are relative to 100% of the remaining ingredients

Rations fed over a range of cattle weights and feed intakes should be reevaluated over the entire range of circumstances.

FOR A NEW RATION NOTE: hit F9 to recalculate before viewing results.

The program does not predict performance over a range of cattle weights and feed intakes.

Note: Feed ingredients are listed by GROUPS (Roughages, Silages, Grains, By-Products, Vitimans&Additives, Major Minerals, Trace Minerals) to move to the feed analysis to be edited.

This program can be used to develop supplements that can be made at feed mills and added to ingredients (hay-silage-grains) available at a cattle operation.

(hay, silage & grains).

The remaining ingredients are the supplement ingredients and the amounts are relative to 100% of the remaining ingredients
