PART MARKING

OBJECTIVE:

• To provide a training guide to help Beechcraft and suppliers effectively part mark/identify parts and product. Reviews of nonconformities related to part identification has provided opportunities for improvement, where a lack of understanding or misinterpretations of Beechcraft’s requirements for part marking/identification have contributed to nonconformities.

• Raise awareness of Beechcraft’s requirements concerning part/product marking/identification.

Batch Number: Identifying number of a designated group of items / material. A batch may be a division of a lot or a Heat Lot Number.

Cage Code: Commercial and Government EntityCD: Cure Date - Date rubber product is fully cured into a bulk elastomeric

(rubber) product or a molded part.Commercial Identification Designation: A company identifier (when CAGE code

not available). Designators may be: Firm Name, Logo, Trade Mark.DOE: Date of ExpirationDOM: Date of ManufactureFracture Critical Part: Parts designated by Engineering that require traceability

serialization, material qualification testing including verification of minimum fracture toughness, and special handling procedures.

ODA: Original Design Activity - Design activity originally responsible for the design and identification of an item who’s drawing number and activity identification is shown in the title block of the drawings and associated documents.

PIN: Part Number or Identifying NumberShelf Life: Minimum period of time from cure date (or the DOM, DOR, DOS when

applicable) during which the shelf stored product is expected to retain its characteristics as originally specified.

General Part Marking Information – BS 383

General marking information includes, but is not limited to, the following:

BOLD text represents the minimum marking information required for Beechcraft designed parts (commercial, military and spares).

• Part Number (PIN)

• Date of Manufacturer (DOM)

• Manufacturer CAGE and/or commercial IDENT Code

– Beechcraft CAGE code required on all Beechcraft designed parts (manufactured in-house or supplied).

• Part Name / Nomenclature*

• Purchase Order, Contract Number, when required *

• Serial Number*

• Special Characteristics (Serialized, Fragile, ESD, UP, Glass, Handle with Care, etc.)

• Lot Number*

• Batch Number*

• Cure Date (CD)

• Date of Expiration (DOE)*

• Data Matrix Symbol (for IUID or other machine-readable (MRI) labels*

PART MARKING/IDENTIFICATION INFORMATION

• BS383 and Quality Clause QC28 Additional Information

• All products must be identified with the part number or material specification listed on purchase order.

• Identification markings will not be applied on appearance sensitive surfaces, external surfaces of contoured skins and fairings, instrument panels, windows, chrome surfaces, or use stickers that would leave residue.

• Any part that is too small, or due to configuration, cannot be marked with legible required identification, shall be tagged, or bagged and tagged, prior to shipment. Flat surface: 0.25 inch by 2.5 inch (1/4” x 2 1/2”) of uninterrupted area. Bagging or containerizing parts with suitable marking service, to avoid the identification requirements is not permitted.

• When items cannot be physically marked or tagged due to a lack of marking space or because marking or tagging would have an injurious effect, the following methods may be used.

– Marking applied to a supplemental container that may or may not provide item protection, becomes a part of the individual item and is provisioned and managed as a component of that item.

• Loose assemblies (two or more parts) must be packaged and identified as individual units.

• Manufacturer’s name and purchase order number must be identified on the lowest level of packaging.

• On Build to Print parts the supplier must clearly identify first article conformity parts with a unique conformity identifier, such as “FAI” on the part.

• Raw Material Identification Requirements

– Raw material identification shall be identified per the controlling specification and shall include manufacturer’s lot or heat lot number.

• Regulatory Specific Identification Requirements

– Any part that has a specific identification requirement such as Technical Standard Order (TSO), FAA Parts Manufacture Authority (FAA-PMA) or other unique regulatory requirements shall be identified per the requirements of the controlling document or specification.

• Fracture Critical and Durability Critical identification Requirements

– Fracture Critical and Durability Critical Identification Requirements can be found on the Beechcraft drawing or specification. Reference the following Beechcraft specifications.

– BS25116-Principal Structural Elements, Fracture Critical Parts, and Durability Critical Parts Control Requirements

– BS25696-Fracture Critical and Durability Parts Control Listing and Identification/Serialization Requirements For Model 3000

• Source Control Drawing (SCD) and Vendor Item Drawing (VID) Identification Requirements

– SCD and VID parts shall be identified as stated on the Beechcraft drawing and vendor drawing.
