6Ways toExerciseyour Brainthis summer

1. Do Something, Anything, DifferentlyWrite with your opposite hand or brush your teeth with your opposite hand. This will help in using a new part of your brain.

3. Figure It OutWhether it be a maths problem or working out the cost of your sweets and magazine.

4. Feed ItGreat food for a great brain! Blueberries, avocados and broccoli are some of the good foods. Give them ago. Maybe get juicing...

5. Move ItGet up jump around or hop on one foot but be careful! This can increase blood flow to the brain, making it stronger.

2. Read ItPick up a book or a comic.

6. Go SomewhereGet your parents to take you somewhere new or try Geocahing to take you on an adventure.

Muscles always benefit from exercise, and the same is true of your brain. Keep your brain sharp this summer.

Voted ‘Britain’s Finest Natural Wonder’, Wales’ top award-winning visitor attraction is the most breathtaking Showcaves complex in Northern Europe.

Explore the three different caves, discovering some of nature’s most fantastic work! Make your way through the winding passageways of Dan-yr-Ogof Caves and see awe-inspiring cave formations such as the Angel, Alabaster Pillar and the Rasher of Bacon! In Cathedral Cave explore the enormous passageway that leads to the Dome of St. Paul’s, where you can walk between two 20 metre-high waterfalls which cascade into one of the underground lakes. In Bone Cave learn why 42 human skeletons were buried here, and how our ancestors and animals used caves all those years ago.

Above ground, come face-to-face with some of the most dangerous creatures ever to walk the earth. Stand next to the terrifying Ty rannosaurus

Rex, walk underneath the enormous Brachiosaurus, and witness the brutal ‘Thagomizer’ on the placid Stegosaurus! Our Dinosaur Park has one of the largest

collections of life-sized dinosaur models in the world – will you find your favourite dinosaur?

Visit the Shire Horse Centre, where you can meet these gentle giants who worked the land here on Dan-yr-Ogof Farm, over one hundred years ago. Twm, our talking sheepdog, will guide you through life on a farm in the Welsh valleys at the beginning of the 20th Century.

There are so many friendly farm animals to see, and don’t forget our covered play areas, where the children can let off some steam before the journey home!

In our Museum, use the latest interactive technology to watch experienced cavers make their way through the further reaches of the cave, or paint your own dinosaur and send a copy to yourself by email to print out, or share with your friends!

And, when you are ready for a break, enjoy the scenery of the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park from our Coffee Shop, with a drink and some food - all freshly prepared! If you’re looking for that unusual gift, why not try our Rock and Dinosaur Shop? From Spinosaurus’ teeth and fossilised dinosaur dung, to beautiful jewellery, amethyst, and soft toy dinosaurs, we have a fabulous selection on offer.

Riders of all abilities are catered for at The Grange and previous experience is not necessary. Each of our friendly welsh ponies is responsive and surefooted making them suitable for beginners or the more experienced rider. Children from six years old will find the average trek well within their capabilities but we offer hourly treks for the younger visitor or nervous rider or for experienced riders who wish to ride with their own guide. Our HALF DAY treks (about three hours) for the nervous or first-time riders, will take you on the lower mountain tracks above farmland, through streams, or along quiet country lanes. Our FULL DAY ride will offer you panoramic views (weather dependant!). The pace is slightly faster and terrain a little more demanding. Starting at 10am each rider is given instruction and demonstrations on handling, grooming, and tacking up their horse. Stopping for lunch at a scenic spot before returning to the stables at approximately 4pm. In order for you to get the best from your trek, a call prior to your visit ensures we can match you with your mount in terms of age, size and ability and trek duration. Hard hats of the current safety standard are available to hire.

The ultimate TREASURE HUNT

How to play

Geocaching Tips

17 16

Geocaching is a great high tech treasure hunt activity for all the family. All you need to get started is a mobile phone. Download the GEOCACHING app (for a small one off fee) and you’re ready for your first adventure!

Geocaching is a great way to explore your local area or anywhere in the world. Find hidden beaches, lakes, woodlands etc and areas of outstanding beauty that you would never have found before!

Using your mobile phone you can search for cleverly hidden containers called caches. These will come in all shapes and sizes and could be hidden anywhere! Caches are never buried but may be up high in trees or hidden low on the ground.

Geocaching can lead you on long or short treasure hunts and there are caches hidden in all parts of the world. Each cache has a difficulty rating so best to work your way up to get the hang of it!

When Geocaching don’t leave the path until your GPS tells you. Try not to disturb wildlife and never leave your litter. When you’re close to a cache keep your eyes peeled for signs of something out of place. Remember the names of geocaches are often clues as well.

Trading is encouraged in Geocaching so don’t forget to take something to trade if you want to remove something from the cache. Don’t forget to put the cache back exactly as you found it. If the cache was exposed, help by hiding it but do not bury it.

Most of all, read our tips, stay safe and have a great adventure.

Just for fun!
