BEDROCK-NEWS THE OFFICICIAL QUARTERLY PUBLICATION OF THE BEDROCK PROSPECTORS CLUB

January/February/March

MONTHLY MEETING PLACE

PUYALLUP MASONIC HALL 1005 West Pioneer Ave.

HELD ON THE THIRD MONDAY OF EVERY MONTH

7:30 pm – 9:30 pm

Welcome members to 2015. As most of you are

aware, our club is undergoing many new and

exciting changes. One of the most important

changes will be in the way we communicate with

our members, after all it’s your club and you need

to know what’s going on. So starting in early spring,

we will be reorganizing our newsletter, our web

site information and our postings on Facebook.

Also, we’re adding to our meetings, our winter

breakfasts and most other Outings the addition of

flyers of our upcoming events for you to read.

Our goal is in the New Year to keep everyone as

up to date as possible.

Another unique way we will be communicating

with you is thru emails and telephone calls. So

look for these changes in the weeks to come and

get ready for a very exciting 2015 season.

Our 2015 Calendar

Planning events for a club like ours with so many

venues is hard enough, with weather, and so many

other considerations, getting everything down in

stone is nearly impossible this early in the year. So

our calendar will only show larger outings, and

events that are certain and of which dates are not

negotiable. There will be many more events

planned, not mentioned on the calendar but will

be posted thru Facebook and our Website. Now

when possible we will add more events to the

calendar as plans become more concrete. We

promise to keep you busy

Our Gold Shows

The Monroe Gold Show is scheduled for

and Bedrock traditionally makes a big splash. So

we’ll be needing lots of help working the booth,

just as we will later in the spring at the Cashmere

Gold Show, A smaller show but just as important.

So come on out and support our clubs booths at

these shows.

2015 Gold Show Schedule

This year’s gold show schedule is being

changed a bit by the loss of the Puyallup Gold

Show, So, we only have the Monroe and the

Cashmere Shows. We will miss that show but we

have something very special in the planning stages

to replace it. For dates on these events, refer to

our calendar

Our New Bedrock Board Members

There’s been big changes this year in our Clubs

board and officers starting with our beloved Bill

Addy. He has decided to step down as Membership

Chairman. Bill has been the glue for this club,

keeping everything membership wise all together

and in proper order for many a year. His will be

huge shoes to fill I’m sure. The same with our Vice

president Doug Irish. Doug has been a real asset as

Vice President, helping to keep our fine club

running. Thank you Doug, for the many years of

great service.

We also have lost a few board members and

would like to thank them for their time devoted to

Bedrock Prospectors

Our First Winter Picnic

Picnic ? In the Winter ? Yep! A picnic. We’re

trying something new this year. Just about the end

of February, we’re all getting cabin fever and just

dying to get out and do something. So we got a

neat idea to have a winter social at the hall. A little

get together of members, just to say HI !. We’re

also inviting anyone who wants to, to bring items

they want to sell, maybe mining equipment, rocks,

anything they want to just get rid of, maybe do a

little swapping, haggling, bartering, Also, maybe

get a metal detecting clinic going for a few hours.

Maybe a little show and tell. Bring your treasures,

show’em off. Have a piece of handmade

prospecting equipment your proud of, show it off.

Show off your latest modifications on the cube or

dredge, whatever you want. Now the day will start

around 10 am and we’ll have a pot luck luncheon

around 12:30 and there’s talk of a chilli cook off

and the day will end when it ends, no set time. Just

a really nice time with friends. After all, that’s what

it’s all about any way. Have an idea for the day,

don’t keep it a secret, tell us and it will happen. It’s

your day. Let’s make it a good one. No, it’s not

replacing the Rendezvous, just an added way we

can spice up a winter week end.

Spring’s ’s Not That Far Away!

Yes, I know it’s still winter, but when planning big

outings, we have to start early. Our Big Spring Fling

on the Beach, down at Cape Disappointment is

scheduled for May 1st, to may 3rd, 2015. We’re

again planning on taking over Section B of the park

and making it one heck of a party. We will be

having another Metal Detector hunt and Kids coin

chase along with the great pot luck supper on

Saturday. So think about making reservations early

as they will sell out. More information on this

event will be announced in weeks to come.

Memorial Day at Blewett

This year’s outing at Blewett on May 23rd thru

25th is as everything else we’re doing this year, a

little different. We have special events planned and

will guarantee a lot of fun and excitement.

Remember it’s a huge pot luck on Sat. Eve.

As the year progresses, we will announce our

plans a little more in detail.

June’s Rendezvous

Scheduled for June 13th. And hopefully as in the

past 3 years our weather will once again be sunny

and warm. This event is always one of our best of

the year.

Bedrock Prospector’s Spring Fling on the Beach

Cape Disappointment State Park

Illwaco, Wa.

We’re planning early folks. This park is getting popular with all the prospectors

pulling gold off the beach. Spaces fill up months early, so we have to stay ahead of

the rest and plan this outing super early. Remember it’s a first come , reservation

type deal. So if you can, make yours soon.

We have another great metal detecting hunt planned and again, a coin chase for

the kids, that’s hoping we get a lot of Jr. members to attend. The weather

hopefully will be better than in April and we expect to fill the beach up with

dozens of gold cubes and happy faces.

Saturday, yes again, we will be having a Huge Pot luck, but we plan to have it in

Sect. B instead of the Parks picnic area. We shall see as it gets closer to May and

we speak to the Parks people. Reservations can be made on line thru Wa. Parks

reservations or by calling direct at 888- 226-7688.

2015 Bedrock Prospectors Club Dues 2015 Dues are due Now. Your dues may be sent in with the application page in letter. Be sure to update all contact information so you may get the latest notices on upcoming events and outings. Other ways to pay your dues - At all of our meetings and outings, events and gold shows. We take credit and debit cards, checks and of course, cash. You don’t want to miss out on what may prove to be a very spectacular year for the club.

This coupon is a little gift from Brian at APEX PICKS. They have generously donated a really nice Pick and belt to our club so we may use it in one of our events. And as it goes, we did just that. It seems our own Rock Master Jim Curtiss happened to win it at the Christmas party. Nice going Jim.

APEX PICKS are one of those MOM and POP style businesses who struggle to stay alive in today’s battle against the big chain stores and foreign imports. But as tough as it is out there, these fine folks never fail to donate to clubs like ours, so please when you’re out there shopping for tools and such for this season, think about the little businesses like this one and help support them like they have done so freely these few years.

Another Great place to shop is Gold Rush Trading Post. Just as in the past few years, with just a phone call, the donation was on it’s way. A nice stack of gold pans and snuffer bottles now sit in our pile of goodies for the upcoming season. Here’s their flyer below

Prospecting in Today’s Economy We all hear from time to time from those around us that “ things are not as good in the economy as the pretty picture painted for us all” All around us, the belts are being tightened. Little by little, products are disappearing, stores are closing. Companies shutting their doors. It’s the way of things today I guess. Well reality set in for me when I decided to do my usual phone calling, soliciting for our upcoming season’s prizes. For instance, The New 49er’s, who used to give us a trip or at least a nice box of books and videos and shirts, passed on this year’s donation. The GPAA also, those 1 year memberships, are no more. The reply was that business was down and they were cutting back. Ohhh, California Sluice Box Company. “Rick”, my friend, who so generously donated sluices and a trammel last time I called him. Well folks, his business is now gone. The Gold Cube and Gold N Sand People who as most of you are aware, who we have seriously supported they’re company with many purchases in the past few years, have reduced their donation to a simple discount voucher (which I did pass on). These folks were not alone, I could go on. Yes, we did receive some nice

donations for this year and I am grateful as the club is also as grateful, but those donations came from our local family companies like the flyers I have posted and of course White’s Electronics, First Texas Instruments and Mine Lab. ( Seems as the economy hasn’t hit them quite so hard yet). It could also be the Plight going on in California and Oregon has finally beaten down the manufacturers and businesses pertaining to prospecting. Hey!, No dredging, no sold dredges. DO the math. So when you’re at the shows and on the net shopping for toys to play with, remember those businesses who took time to think about us and make a purchase. And if you get the chance to speak to one of them, say thanks for all they do and for our club …

What do I say. You see the photos. Yes it’s Cape Disappointment and yes, we’re on the beach. But where’s the Gold Cubes?, the Trailers?, the shovels and all the buckets? Not today folks. No not today. This was a day where a whole bunch of friends got together just because they could. No prospecting, metal detecting, or anything having to do with DIGGING! Just enjoying the weather, the company and the views. Ohhh, Where were you? A Fun Day At Waddel Creek We all know our good friend Jim Curtiss, and we all know you don’t have to say the words Waddell Creek more than once and he’s slipping on his waders even before he’s in his truck. Well, this was one of those days, along with a few phone calls and an interesting jaunt thru the woods.

Now we said earlier we would be doing things a little different in the way we communicate with our membership. This newsletter is just the beginning, not perfected yet by any means, but we’re trying. We’re also planning an enormous amount of outings and events for the 2015 season. The question is, Knowing it’s almost impossible to attend them all, which ones will you be able to make? The calendar in the previous page is just a small example of the things we’re doing. Just since this was written, we have events to add for the next issue. That’s the way it goes sometimes. No, we didn’t include the Waddell creek outings or the metal detecting buddy hunts or any of the little rock hunt outings. But we will. So once again, when renewing your dues, or just because you can, see that we have your latest contact information.

Do you really want to miss out on events like this?

Or this?

Saturday, February 28th, 2015 will be

Bedrocks very first Winter Festival. Held at

our hall and boasts to a very fun packed

day from early morning to sometime after

dinner. Plan for a long day.

Starting out with a great seminar on metal

Detecting. We have guest speakers from

Metal Detecting Ass. Of WA, Hood canal

Metal detecting Club, The Outlaw Detecting

Organization and Cascade Metal detecting

and if I’m not mistaken the Puget Sound

Club as well. Each organization will have

representatives present and will be putting

on what we hope will be a very educational

show. So bring your detectors with you .

This will be followed by a wonderful chili

cook off. All are invited to enter and maybe

we’ll crown our very first Chili King or

Queen. We’re hoping to talk our guests

into judging the contest. There will be

burgers and dogs for those who can’t do

the spicy.

Now starting early afternoon we will be

holding a metal detecting contest. ( a

seeded hunt ) and we will be giving away

some great prizes . We also will be holding a

raffle for a very nice detector and will be

awarding it that day to the luck winner.

All thru the day we will have members set

up, selling prospecting equipment,

detecting equipment as well as rocks and

lapidary items.

Now all are welcome to set up and sell

what you like as well. Like I said, it will be a

long day.

We have been informed that our fellow SWW GPAA club and our Gig harbor GPAA folks will also will be attending. Our southern brothers will have discounted ( 50 percent off) GPAA show tickets available for the upcoming Portland Or. show. Ohh, by the way, we’re doing this day up right. We’re filming it. So when the camera looks at you, smile! Now if the weather prevents us from running the hunt, we will have an alternate event for the afternoon. Also all these fine organizations will be prepared to take new memberships as well as renewals. Considering the fact of no Puyallup show, here’s a good chance to get your dues up to date. So come on out, have a burger, maybe win a prize and just have a heck of a good time.
