We get all wound up over abortion and when an embryo becomes a person and many other “hot” issues based on our religious faith. But, what about some of the things that Jesus said about “love your enemies”. ”bless those who persecute you”. The current Washington stance is that if someone does an act of terrorism, blow them off the map. I’m not a pacifist but I do believe that at best war and so called “police actions” are always the lesser of two evils. I do believe that we as a nation need to take a long hard look at just how can we best exercise our so called “Christianess” as a nation. What about forgiveness – or reconciliation or help- ing “the least of these” – and what about peace not just the absence of war, but a sense of well being for people everywhere? If we truly see ourselves as Christians shouldn’t some of these mentioned and others you can cite be a part of our nation’s answer to the ills and evils that surround us? Grace and Peace Jimmy C.

Rev. Bill Moore, Pastor

From the Pastor July 2016

I am almost compelled to say something about the birth date of these great United States of

America”. It is a time to be thankful for our country since there is no place like it in the world.

Even though I do not agree with many of the policies at home and abroad, I certainly would

not want to live anywhere else. We hear over and over again that we are a Christian nation

and certainly we were born out of religious concerns. It wasn’t in the beginning that we saw

ourselves as “one nation under God” but much later during the term of Dwight Eisenhower.

More and more the visible manifestations of that belief are going away at a rapid pace.

I think all that we have now a days is that “In God We Trust” on our money” and I sometimes

question that since our very culture seems to be saying something quite different.

What really bothers me is that if we are to claim that we are a Christian nation why is it so

many trillions of dollars go into our 21st military establishment and currently seeking to reduce

items that will help the poor and the elderly. We get all wound up over abortion and when an

embryo becomes a person and many other “hot” issues based on our religious faith. But, what

about some of the things that Jesus said about “love your enemies”. ”bless those who persecute

you”. The current Washington stance is that if someone does an act of terrorism, blow them

off the map. I’m not a pacifist but I do believe that at best war and so called “police actions”

are always the lesser of two evils.

I do believe that we as a nation need to take a long hard look at just how can we best exercise

our so called “Christianess” as a nation. What about forgiveness – or reconciliation – or help-

ing “the least of these” – and what about peace – not just the absence of war, but a sense of

well being for people everywhere? If we truly see ourselves as Christians shouldn’t some of

these mentioned and others you can cite be a part of our nation’s answer to the ills and evils

that surround us?

Grace and Peace – Jimmy C.

From the Search and Call Committee

Your search committee has mailed or emailed the Congre-

gational Survey to participating and

non– participating members. We have received 50% in re-

sponse.

Up next on our agenda is the completion of a

congregational profile. This will be sent to the regional of-

fice to be viewed by prospective Pastors.

CMF News

The CMF and CWF had a combined meeting on Tuesday June 6th that was well attended.

Thanks to "Chuck Wagon" Ed McCoy for fixing up the hamburgers and to all the great cooks who provided side dishes

for the meal. After some group fellowship and a devotional the men and women held separate business meetings. Our

treasurer Peter Hull reported that after making some nice donations to some local charities we still have around $400 in

our checking account. After several unsuccessful seasons with the Church garden the men voted to cease the CMF's

participation in the garden. The CMF is making one last offer of the garden spot to any Church member or to local out-

reach organizations that would like to use it. The CMF would also plow and till the garden for the first time that

someone uses it. Planting and maintaining the garden would be the responsibility of the user. If no one is found who

wants to use the garden the CMF will remove the fencing and reseed the area.

Due to the 4th of July falling on the first Tuesday of July our next meeting will be held on July 11th at 6:00 pm.

Meatloaf is on the menu, bring a side to share

Have a safe and happy July 4th. Freedom to worship is a wonderful privilege. Plan now to attend Sunday School and

Church as often as you can.

Peace and Blessings

CMF

From the Board Chairman

Our next Board Meeting will be held Sunday July 16th

2017 @ 1:30pm. Please make time for your church

and asking all Board Officers to attend this meeting.

Thank You

Ed McCoy, Board Chairman

BCC Website News

When Bill and Amy Moore left they requested that I take over maintenance on the BedfordDisciples.org website

and Facebook page, due to my computer design background. I have asked Shauna Saunders to work with me on the

Facebook page, so we can keep it as socially interactive with photos and celebrations as possible. Our website will be

undergoing regular changes, as well as our Facebook page. Currently, it has been updated to show our interim

Pastor, Jim Compton, and his monthly newsletter message has a page dedicated to it. I am working on getting a calendar

page that we can keep filled with church events. I would also like to see us have a download link for our monthly news-

letters (but that is in the future). If you have ideas of what you would like to see on our site please let me know. My

email address is [email protected].

Living It Day by Day

She sat alone in an old people’s home,

Lonely and old an gray;

She wished someone, just anyone,

Would call on her that day.

Did you?

He lay for days on his hospital bed;

The hours were long and hard.

He wished someone, just anyone,

Would send him a cherry card.

Did you?

He was far from home on foreign soil,

Feeling homesick, lonely, and blue.

He wished that someone , just anyone,

Would write him a letter.

Did you?

She felt a stranger, that little bride;

No husband with her to church came.

She wished that someone, just anyone ,

Would stop and call her name.

Did you?

Her loved one died a few weeks ago;

All sad and brokenhearted she sat.

She wished that someone, just anyone,

Would come to her house and cat.

Did you<

That matter of Christian service -

We are living it day by day,

When we help someone, just anyone,

As we walk along life’s way.
