Introduction / Opening The Hatch Let’s start with the basics here. We are living in a world that is full of more opportunity right now than ever in the history of time. There are more millionaires right now under the age of 30 than you can believe on any given day. They charged forward and they made their dreams a reality with their passions and they never looked back. There stories are compelling and their failures are many before they actually won the prize of their freedom and wealth. So the question remains, “why do you want to become an entrepreneur?’ It’s actually a simple equation in the long run. You have ideas and concepts that are inside of you that other people need to be exposed to and to learn from. Your experiences coupled with your expertise have a hidden need to take wings, however, they cannot do this unless you release the valve and start the process. So what is the process and how do you begin it? In the following chapters, we will explore the different ways that people all over the world have explored the world of entrepreneurism. It is actually part science and the other half make it up as you go along. Many of the entrepreneurs that are now successful went completely off of their path to eventually hit their mark and now have the ability to teach and guide others to make less of the mistakes that they made. The magic of this whole thing is that each person has their own journey and it creates a

Page 4: Becoming An Entrepreneur

vibration for them that will make them unique. The entrepreneur has the ability to take what they know and offer it out to others, sometimes for a price and other times just for the sake of an experience. As we go over the concepts that create entrepreneurs, keep in mind that nothing is etched in stone. There are several ways to reach the elite club that is known as entrepreneurism. These are individuals who have carved out a life of freedom and control of their own movements each and every day of their lives. They did not get there alone and they could not stay there alone either. Many people who in many cases were even more intelligent than them have helped them along the way and they used this to their advantage. Most of them realize that it takes the combined leverage of a mastermind of people to create greatness and that is just what they do. It takes the same amount of energy in the morning to wake up and go to work for someone else as it would to get up and work for your self. So why do so many people choose the former instead of the latter? One reason is that it is easier to stick to a consistent system that someone else has created than it is to create one of your own and expose it to the world. The latter takes drive, passion, accountability, resources, leverage, and most of all belief. You already believe that you will get a check at the end of the week. The question is, do you believe that you can create a check from the things that are already inside of your mind? Stepping out on a limb is key here. This is where all of the fruit hang and wait to be picked.

Page 5: Becoming An Entrepreneur

We hope that you enjoy the information that follows and that it stimulates you to take your life into your own hands. It will not only transform your current belief system, but it will ignite others to follow you and to wonder how you did it? The possibilities that exist to become an entrepreneur are truly endless. There are billions of people in this world and they are looking for something or someone to follow. The person that they follow is going to change their current reality because they have not been able to do it thus far. They have run into brick walls and heard and seen their fair share of slammed doors. Enter you, the brand of you. If you can extract all of your capabilities and your strengths into something that others can learn, duplicate, or just reap the benefits from, you are in business. The world of entrepreneurism is full of opportunity in so many ways. The best part of that sentence is that you never know where it will show up or what will be required of you when these opportunities come about.

Mind Games Believe it or not, your mind is playing a game with you. Right now as you read this, a large percentage of you are thinking to yourselves, “all of this sounds great but, this will never work for me”. I can tell you with much conviction, that this is almost entirely because this topic is not one that is spoken about on a regular basis. There is more talk about mediocrity right now than there has ever been in the history of time. So why is that the case? It’s because it’s safer to be this way. If you leap out into the unknown and you are not guaranteed the outcome that you desire, most people will not return to that game. If you speak to some of the highest achievers and serial entrepreneurs, they will almost all say the same thing, do the thing that others are not willing to do and you can make millions. If money is not your motivation, and for many it isn’t, then just the sheer freedom that you can gain from being your own boss is worth every scratch and every cut you will have to endure on your way to the top. You see, the mind cannot manifest what it does not believe is possible. That last sentence can make or break you. What’s great about free enterprise is that time will either promote you or expose you. Those are the cruel and harsh rules and they will remind you of their presence soon enough. When I traveled around the world doing mostly what I loved to do, I came into contact with people who could speak 7 languages fluently. At first it boggled my mind!! Then as I got to know them better I made a completely different opinion. It just came to me like a lightning bolt. The fact of the matter was that they decided and then they went after it until

Page 7: Becoming An Entrepreneur

it was done. That was it!! There was no negotiation or hesitation. If they failed, they did not get the job. So these people could communicate with any person that walked up to the front desk on this luxury cruise liner, as well as through most of the world. So more communication turns into more opportunity in my book. These people were not super humans, they just had a bigger reason to excel and there was no time to fool around at all. The mind is as strong as we allow it to be. It is said that the average person reads less than five books in a year upon leaving college. Some would say that that does not matter, but I am here to tell you that it does. You see the things that we feed our brain are the things that we become. I once heard it said that the more books you could stand on, the higher you can see above the crowd. Put simply, take the knowledge of those who came before you and integrate into your own belief system. In the world of entrepreneurs, its not really the ones that have the most capital, or the most connections, as it is the ones who have done the most tireless research and have discovered what did and did not work in the past. Their minds are like bottomless troughs of possibilities that could never be full on any day. They keep going and they keep on making as many mistakes as possible. Those that have prospered as entrepreneurs are like pit bull dogs. They hold on and they never let go until they get what they want.

Building Your Team If you want to accomplish your goal of getting your uniform in the game of entrepreneurs, you have to have your group or your “mastermind” as it is called and be prepared to push forward with a combination of leverage and hard work. It is not necessary to have too much more than this when you are setting out to accomplish your goals. Every successful person has several people that have helped him or her to get to the point that they have arrived at right now. You don’t always see them or even feel them, however, they are there. The power of putting together a group of focused people that are set on the goal is priceless. Think of how hard Ray Croc would have had to work if he had relied on just himself to cook, the burgers, the fries, and to take the money? What if Donald Trump was set on being the landlord at every building that he owned in New York City? Lastly, how could Michael Jordan have won those championships entirely on his own? Your team is the fulcrum of your success even if you created what you have without them. This point is such a crucial one as you enter the world of the entrepreneur. If you have a group of people in mind to carry out your vision, they have to already see the vision coming to fruition before you even start. Many ides have fallen by the waist side purely because the original idea could not survive on its own. If you plan to do it all on your own, you have a long road ahead of you. There are more ways to outsource than there has ever been and it can be done in a professional and ethical way. In the end everyone wins if the rules are set in the beginning and all is clear.

Page 9: Becoming An Entrepreneur

Telling Your Story If I have heard it once, I have heard it thousands of times, facts tell and stories sell. You have a story that someone needs to hear and by the way, we all do. The rub is that we are the prime critics and we tend to think that our story is not important enough for anyone to purchase or to become connected to in the long run. The harsh reality is, every story is important to someone and you will not know until you release it how many it will touch. There are countless stories of people who were sure that what they had created was absolute crap, only to find out later that it was a blockbuster in their field. If people feel that you have done something extraordinary, yet they see you as ordinary as they see themselves, you have connected properly with them. There are examples of this everywhere. All you have to do is look for them. At the end of the day, each human is truly unique and you are no different at all. If the same parents, in the same town, and with the same beliefs, had brought us all up nothing out of the box would be possible. Hearing other people’s stories releases lightness about us because if another person did it, then we can do it as well. There was a man on the moon, after that there were others. It was said at one time that boats could only float that were built with wood, after that they were also made with steel and several other materials. When one human being takes a step, the others will follow not too far behind.

What About Money? As life would have it, finding funding for a project or just plain wanting to start your own company can be actually one of the most pleasurable experiences in your journey. There are now so many companies big and small that actually want to help you to actualize your vision and they are just waiting for you to stimulate them with the possibilities. They want to get on board a fast moving train that has purpose and meaning. If you convince them that you are passionate beyond belief, they will buckle up and take the ride. Many people do not even understand a small percentage of what it means to have a business of their own and to make their money work for them as opposed to against them. Those who venture off into the world of free enterprise are rewarded with many gems that support their forward motion. Anything that they use to do their business becomes part of their expenses and therefore is written off to their benefit. So imagine going from having much of your money taken form you to coming back to you in a different fashion altogether. It goes without saying that most businesses need capital to get up and running. The best part of being an entrepreneur is that you spend more of your time piecing a machine together that works for you instead of one that cannot run without you. The difference is an astronomical one that is very easy to get used to on any given day. You see entrepreneurs are always looking for ways to grow their ideas through others that compliment their vision. It will always be more powerful to have 1% of 100 people’s effort that it is to have 100% of your own always working. Proper funding can do this.

Page 11: Becoming An Entrepreneur

Leadership This may be the most important part of any entrepreneur’s journey. Everything rises and falls on leadership across the board, without question. A man or woman who sets out to lead can only do so if they exemplify the qualities of a leader ahead of time. In other words, if you are not financially stable, you cannot teach others how to do so. If you are not a successful business owner, you cannot expect others to follow your lead. However, it’s very possible to start a movement and have people follow you afterwards. When Steve Jobs began, he did not have the legions of people behind him that he does today. He was a standout, a rebel, and a true force of nature. The true definition of leadership is to do something so well that people want to follow you without you actually asking them to do so. You should probably read that last sentence one more time because it will serve you well in the future. If one man or woman can lead effectively, they will produce many other leaders and soon the machine that they aspired to build will multiply right in front of their face. This concept is so powerful that it gets by most individuals in this lifetime. So why should anyone follow your lead? Do you have the passion? Do you have the vision? Can you take your current state of mind and transform it into one that oozes with leadership qualities? The answers to these things are all within you and they are begging to get out like small dogs in route to the dog park. The true test of leadership is how much you can do with what you already have. Then from that place you can lift it all up to a level that teaches and inspires with the greatest of ease.

Systems We all live most of our lives through systems. Believe it or not, you have a system for almost everything that you do. In the best and the worst of times, systems will save the day. Something that I have learned for instance is that what you track will inevitably get stronger and be more effective. Case in point, if you were to track every dollar that you ever spent, you would be so very surprised to see how much of your money goes to things that do not forward your progress at all in your personal or business life. Here is a very easy way to live the word systems. Save, your, self, time, energy, and money. This will serve you well on your journey into your new life where you are in control of how you make your fabulous living. There are some solid things that you can do to develop a system that only allows you to be successful and nothing less. We are generally not willing to enter a systems mindset unless we are told to do so. As children, we are told to do so many things that become normal that when we become adults, many of us want to buck the system and just run wild. Here is a bit of a wake up call, create your own system, and then follow it. Here are some key points to this school of thought:

- Plan each day before it begins. The night before make a list of what you intend to accomplish for the next day. Be specific.

Page 13: Becoming An Entrepreneur

- Have an actual vision in your mind of how that day will go before the day actually arrives. Make that your last thought before you close your eyes.

- Create a goal sheet or journal that maps out exactly what you want to accomplish one month, two months, up to a year from now.

- Read at least 10 to 20 pages of a book on business, spirituality, or creating the life that you want daily.

- Release your goals verbally to those that are closest to you. They will keep you accountable and in the game.

- Do not give your time to just anyone, make the minutes in your day count for something. Idle time means no action is taking place.

- Ask yourself a few times a day, “Is what I am doing right now getting me closer to my goals or distracting me from it”.

- Clear your mind a minimum of 5 minutes a day with meditation. - Exercise regularly. Drink lots of water. Eat well for your body.

This is an example of a system. You do not have to agree with this system at all. You can create a system that works for you and that pushes you in your own way. The point is that you “must” have a system. Without a system, the mind will wander and run to what is comfortable instead of what will stretch and push you. Think of what would happen if you had to think about getting up and going to the bathroom every day or brushing your teeth? It would create a problem on the days that you forget wouldn’t it? It would be a problem for everyone around you actually. So why do we not stress about those things? It’s because we have a system and they take care of them selves because they are non-negotiable for our minds.

Page 14: Becoming An Entrepreneur

It is said that it takes about 20 some odd days to develop a habit with an action that you repeat. This figure will change from person to person without a doubt. The concept will always be the same. What you set into motion and adhere to will become your life in due time. I think of the NYC subway as I write this. For over 200 years, this has been almost exactly the same way. The same tracks have been used for the most part. The way that the trains run has not changed. This system has the ability to transport people all over the island and it is one of the most reliable systems on the planet in the craziest city on the planet. Look at your current life and ask yourself what do you do daily, weekly, or monthly, and how do you track it? Do you know how much money you spent last month after you paid all of your bills? How much was spent on food? How many times did you just throw away your money on a very unnecessary thing? How much did you put aside for another time? How many hours did you sleep last night? How will it cost for you to have the car of your dreams? That last one was just a nudge to get you tot dream a little bit. Systems will save you, end of story.

Lastly, the beauty of a system is that it is right there in solid language. If you know that it will take $100,000 to buy your dream car and you want it more than anything in the world, many other things will have to move out of the way. Systems will clear the way for what’s really of the most importance for you no matter what. The biggest hurdle with a system is once again “you”. Our minds are programmed to keep us safe and to not put us in to an unfamiliar place. The life of an

Page 15: Becoming An Entrepreneur

entrepreneur is the exact opposite. These are the champions that allow the unknown to become the norm. Each day they are looking for ways to change the current norm to something else that can ignite people by the thousands, or even millions. You can be one of these people if you just develop a different perspective as well as a different system. Think of a place like McDonald’s. I have seen them all over the world, literally. No matter where I am, the place always looks the same. The fries are always to the left side of the operation and the burgers always come from the middle. This system has been in use for several years and it has worked for all of that time. Could it have worked if they changed the system each month just to see what would happen? I am certain that it would not have worked at all. Just to be clear though, you have the ability to change your system from time to time, but only slightly and mindfully until it sediments itself into a strong habit that creates massive results. This is absolutely imperative to becoming an entrepreneurial spirit. Always remember that each and every person who has created a life of freedom and choice has had to endure tons of setbacks, hits and misses, disappointments, confusions, and on and on. These things are part of the ride, so you want to get right out there and start taking your hits daily. This means by turning over every rock that you possibly can that relates to your vision and your passions. If it’s that car that you want, go and take it for a drive it today. If it’s that house that you want, go and look at the inside of it today. Entrepreneurs go after their visions with abandon and very little doubt. It consumes them to the tenth power and beyond.

Page 16: Becoming An Entrepreneur

Those Who Walk The Walk It would be unfair to speak of all this internal work and not give you examples of people who have actually done these things and created an abundant life from it. It is said that if you want to get something, study someone who has already done it and then model that person to the letter. Now because you are different inside and you have had different experiences along the way, you will undoubtedly hit a few snags. This is a normal occurrence and it makes total sense. That being said, many can follow a good system and you will see by the examples that I will give in this chapter. Timothy Ferris This very inventive and sharp man wrote a book entitled, “The Four Hour Work Week”. I can hear your heart beating faster already. Now have you ever in your entire life thus far worked only 4 hours and had the ability to take care of your bills afterwards? This man has done it many times over. He created a “system”, there goes that word again, and he put it into place many times over. One of the reasons why the title of this book sounds so crazy is that it clashes with the “system” that we all know about and disrupts our mind. Almost everything that he writes about is counter to what most people’s belief systems are right now. So how does this intelligent contrarian cut through all of the doubt? He plowed through and made it

Page 17: Becoming An Entrepreneur

happen, that’s how. This book is available in over 20 languages and it has worked for many people all over the world. He tackles the status quo like the defensive line of the New England Patriots!!! The thing to concentrate on here is that he created a system and then he followed through on it. Actually, truth be told, he saw someone else that had a system and he decided to rework it is own way. Does that sound familiar? I know that you have some of your own ideas and I also know that there is someone that right now has the life that you want and you will do anything to get it. Timothy talks about escaping the office and embracing a mobile lifestyle. He touches on killing your job as well as how much easier it is to make 40 grand in a month than it is to make that in a year. That made my ears bleed a little bit when I first read it I admit. The basic premise though, was that only a very small percentage of people would do what it takes to make that much in a month. Therefore, the field is wide open. Mr. Ferris figured out how to make well over $40, 000 a month while physically being in another part of the world, while the money was being made. He was out living and creating his own memories. To this day, he is traveling all over the world teaching and creating streams of income in several ways. Remember, this is more about freedom than money. You can be wealthy and have no freedom, however, you can have freedom and wealth together if you create a system that supports that.

Chris Guillebeau I originally stumbled upon Chris based on a conversation with a friend and I am so grateful that I did. His first book was called “ The Art Of Non Conformity”. Now I do not even have to go into why this title rocked my brain like the Rolling Stones do I? I mean let’s just break this down to brass tacks. Non-conformity is not popular by any stretch of the imagination. I take that back, its popular, it’s just still only being practiced by a very small percentage of people in the entire world. If I had to give it a percentage, I would go with less than ten percent. Chris is a writer, entrepreneur, traveler, and so much more. Now what he does is just concentrate on letting people know how possible it is to take control of what we do and make it work for us. After reading his first book, it was clear that he also had a system that worked for him as well as others. The fulcrum of his argument was that people want to connect with others as well as become part of something bigger than them. He talks about what it would look like if you spent more of your time on the things that you wanted to do instead of just being a cog in the wheel that is working towards someone else’s dream. This is beyond colossal and it resonates with many people in many ways. Chris began this life of “self-employment by any means necessary” nearly a decade ago. He also said something in his book that needs to be incorporated into the mind of every entrepreneur, find a way to help others either here or in other countries. Chris volunteered

Page 19: Becoming An Entrepreneur

for 4 years in Africa before he wrote his books and plunged into his fabulous life that he knows now. He also had a goal to visit every country in the world by traveling to 20 countries a year and operating his business from anywhere with only his laptop. Chris has just about done that today and he has multiplied his followers by the thousands. He wrote something in his book that had a profound effect on me. He wrote, “There is no rehab program for being addicted to freedom. Once you have seen what it’s like on the other side, good luck trying to follow someone else’s rules ever again”. That blew a hole through my consciousness the size of the Grand Canyon!!! When Chris became know as the every day guy who just puts it out there in plain and simple language, he won the respect of thousands and thousands of people. He went on a few book tours and he actually spoke to all of his readers. He listened to them, and then he published another book that was full of their stories and how they overcame some truly challenging life situations. He became the go to guy with his simplicity. That is power that is a true entrepreneur. The insight that he has produced for so many thousands of people has placed him in a place of power without a doubt. The interesting thing about both of these men is that all of the information that they provide to the masses was available to all of us way before they released it to us. They just decided to tell their story and to provide us with their personal story attached to it. This is so powerful because we all need to feel that there is someone else going through what we are going through at the same time. If we feel this, we can be more at ease

Page 20: Becoming An Entrepreneur

going forward. The rub though, is that this will still not stimulate some people to move forward in the entrepreneurial direction. It takes hunger and unstoppable rhino skin and drive.

Outro This small but mighty eBook is merely something to wet the palette of your mind and spirit. If you did the bare minimum and just did half of what was gone over in these pages, you would be ahead of 60% of Americans across the country. The cruel and harsh reality is that we are programmed more for failure than we are for success. Just think about it, if tomorrow half of the world got these concepts, then there would be no room for successful people to exist. The void is a good one because it allows for abundant life and for us to prosper and live at another level if that is what we choose and diligently seek. There is nothing in these pages that is difficult to do, but it will take effort. There is nothing in these pages that will take up too much of your time, you choose how you spend your time each and every day no matter what. You do not need anyone to get these concepts moving, you only need your faith and focus. Those who you are necessary in your process will show up in due time. So why should you be an entrepreneur? That is a question that only you can answer and only you can carry out. I will say this though, the rewards are plentiful and the ride to your destination is worth its weight in gold. Thank you for reading…
