• Explain the difference between an artifact and a fossil.
• Describe the difference between primary and secondary sources and give examples of each.
• Explain what types of things historians use to learn about the past.
• Describe American culture; how is it different from other cultures?

• A fossil is a part of something once alive but now turned to stone; it can also be its imprint in stone.
• An artifact is something someone made long ago.
• A Custom is a habit or usual way of doing things amongst a particular people – a tradition.
