Presentation Assembly We had our annual Presentation Assembly this morning. I am sure that parents will be very proud of the award recipient’s achievements this year. Awards were presented to students in each class whom had achieved high academic results across all learning areas as well as an award to those whose academic achievements have improved throughout the year or those who had come to school everyday to do their personal best. Unfortunately, not all students could win a book prize. I congratulate all students who have come to school this year and made it their quest to be their Beckenham Best. I wish to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Cathy Hearman for organising the Presentation Assembly.
Violence in Schools Violence in schools is a complex issue which impacts students, staff and community members. No matter how rare or frequent incidents are, school staff require, support and guidance. Every child has the right to be safe at school. We provide learning environments that foster good behaviour and respect for your children and those around them. I sent home a letter to parents this week letting you know that the State Government has developed ten actions to help school communities, work together on this complex issue. A copy of the statement is available on the Department’s website at education.wa.edu.au or outside the school office. We will endeavour to implement the 10 point action plan in 2019.
Playground Accident Last Friday there was a playground incident involving students and a staff member. The students were not physically harmed as a result of the incident but were extremely upset. A staff member was hurt and required medical attention in hospital. The staff member is resting at home after a short stay in hospital. We wish Lia a speedy recovery from her injuries and look forward to seeing her back next year. In regards to the playground, the Department will be completing a thorough investigation into the incident and to working out why the piece of equipment failed. It may be some time before the reasons are known to us but the school community will be kept informed of the outcome. During the period of investigation and subsequent repair, students will be restricted from playing in the area. Staff Departure and Celebrations Mrs Sally Barlow will be leaving us today. She will remain on sick leave for the rest of the year and next year has accepted a new position at Clifton Hills Primary School in Kelmscott. Sally won this position from a competitive pool of applicants. On behalf of the school community I thank Sally for her efforts. She has developed strong relationships with the students in her class and worked collaboratively with parents to ensure the best outcomes for her group of students. I also wish to thank Mrs Usharini Grida and Mrs Alison Brayford for their contributions this term while relieving for Mrs Nemeth who has been on long service leave. We will miss you also. Miss Miksha Ramlukun has replaced Mrs Barry this term while she too has taken long service, will also be leaving us. We are sorry you are leaving us but hope that you will return next year in other relieving teacher positions. Staff will be saying goodbye to two long serving staff members next Wednesday, December 12
th. Mrs
Jinette Colwill and Mrs Rose McGarraghy, both have worked many years in Pre-Primary and Kindergarten, will be retiring this year. We wish them all the best on their new adventure and hope that they will come and visit us often. We will all miss them so much and all that they do around here.

Year 5 Excursion to King’s Park
On Tuesday, 4 December the Year 5’s in Rooms 10, 11 and 12 went to King’s Park for their end of year excursion.
To begin with, we went to the Flame of Remembrance and the WA War Memorial to acknowledge the efforts of the men and women who have fought for Australia. We then went for a walk through the botanic gardens to see flora from different regions of Western Australia. Here we had fun rolling down the steep hill. After this, we walked through the Women’s Memorial Park, where women and women associations are acknowledged for their contributions to Australia.
From here, we had fun climbing the DNA tower and looking out at the amazing view of Perth and surrounding areas. We then walked down to Synergy park where we had lunch and played on the playground equipment.
It was a fantastic day and we all were tired on the bus. Thank you to our parent helpers who volunteered their time on the day.
