Because the Angels Came
By Hannah McCarty
No more grief or sorrow,
No more suffering or pain
Now there is everlasting peace
Because the Angels came.
Only God knows what is best
And He gently holds my hand
Guiding me to a better place
Because the Angels came.
When the sun rises tomorrow
And I answer not my name,
Please don’t cry … Rejoice with me
Because the Angels came.
So please don’t mourn for me
As new wings I now claim.
I can take my flight to heaven
Because the Angels came.

Reflections of the Life of
Mr. John Dwight Crumpton
John Dwight Crumpton was born October 15, 1952, in Columbia, South Carolina. He was born to Raymond Lewis Crumpton, Sr. and Ruth Camak Crumpton. He peacefully
departed this life to be with the Lord on the evening of Thursday, October 8, 2020, at
Prisma Health Heart Hospital.
John attended the public schools of Richland County School District One, in Columbia,
South Carolina, and was a 1970 graduate of C.A. Johnson High School. After graduation,
John enlisted in the United States Navy, where he gave three years of dedicated service, and
left with an Honorable Discharge in 1977. After serving in the Navy, John found
employment at the United States Postal Service as a Distribution Manager, retiring after 38
years of service. Following retirement, he was employed by the Office of Transportation at
Richland County School District One and Benedict College.
John knew that God was his Lord and Savior, which assured him that “He Could Do All
Things Through Christ Who Strengthened Him...” Philippians 4:13.. He never doubted
God’s Love and His Miraculous Power. John was a member of Gunter’s Chapel Baptist
Church here in Columbia, and after moving to Greenville, South Carolina, he and his wife,
Linda, worshipped at Fairforest Baptist Church. While there, he faithfully served as an
Usher, Deacon, Trustee, and on the Finance Committee. John’s love for young people
became evident when he began working with underprivilege children who looked up to him
as a father figure. He had a special love for Special Needs Children, who truly were dear to
his heart. After giving seven years of dedicated service to the church and community, he
and his wife returned to their home city of Columbia, South Carolina.
On a beautiful sunny day in Hawaii on July 26, 1998, Dwight and Linda Golson were
joined in Holy Matrimony. They enjoyed twenty-two years of wedding Bliss and shared
many exciting and loving memories together before his departure.
John was affectionately called Dwight by his family, and to his friends he was famously
known as Crump. He had a deep love for fishing, which he did often with his brothers and
friends. He was a true diehard Dallas Cowboy football fan, an avid Motorcycle Racer
known as the Turbo Kid, who won numerous motorcycle races and awards and participated
in major races nationally, statewide and locally. Because of his winnings and popularity,
John was featured on the cover of the Sports Motorcycle Magazine. John enjoyed golfing
so much that he, his brother-in-law, and several close friends created a golfing club called
“Brothers In Christ.” John loved his family and truly enjoyed family gatherings, which
allowed him to relax and enjoy the excitement of being with family.
John was preceded in death by: his parents, Raymond, Sr. and Ruth Camak Crumpton; five
brothers, Raymond, Jr., Bernard, Ronald, Alfred, and Darryl; and two sisters, Carolyn and
LaNetta.
