The last month has sure been packed with activities and new infor-mation. The International Rally in Rayne, LA is now complete. Rally masters Roy and Vicki Warren along with their co-rally mas-

ters Dennis and Monica Leger and Russell and Judie Alleman did a fantas-tic job of organizing a great rally with a variety of entertainment including Cajun music, comedy, and even a hypnotist. A variety of Cajun food was served and enjoyed by all. There were also tours of a crawfish and rice farm, a swamp tour and an accordion manufacturer.

One of the highlights of the rally was when Ryan Kelly (son of Ty and Jodie) announced that Beaver Coach Sales had

purchased the intellectual rights to the Beaver brand. What exciting news that Beaver is now back in Bend, OR. It will sure be interesting to see what is next. We should find out a lot more at the next International Rally at Seven Feathers in Canyonville, OR in Sept. If you haven't signed up yet there are still a few spots left. Send your deposit to Mike and Marina Wolfgram who are planning an exciting rally complete with a logging

competition demonstration.

While in Louisiana we attended three of Rett and Claire Porter's rallies. These regional rallies offer opportunities to see some of the local flavor. We visited an alligator farm and learned about hunting alligators. I still don't understand that a 13' alligator can be turned into a $90,00.00 purse, but if the skinner makes an error it is only going to fetch $2800. When we were at the farm, we saw Big Al, a 13.5' alligator who, as it was explained to us, was 60+ years old and a little fat and slow. I looked around and found a few BAC members that fit that category. Everyone had an opportunity to hold a four foot long alligator which Donna and several other women did. In addition, we visited many other interesting sights and enjoyed more Cajun food.International rallies are where your club's business is done. The Board of Directors meeting was held the day before the rally started. Dates were fi-nalized for the 2017 International rallies in Tucson, AZ (April 4-9, 2017) and Hamburg, NY (Sept 27-Oct 2, 2017). Another topic that came up was whether other than Class A Diesel coaches should be allowed to join BAC. After much discussion it was decided to send a survey to all BAC members to get the feel of the membership. You should have already received this survey and hopefully have returned it. If not, please take some time to do so. A simplification of the BAC by-laws was discussed. This is to bring our by-laws more into conformance with FMCA guidelines. After some further review the proposed changes will be sent to the membership for a vote.

The first meetings of the strategic planning committee were held. This was a very spirited and informative session. This will go a long way in giving a direction of BAC over the next several years.

We look forward to seeing you all at rally in the future.Safe Travels,Mike

What's New on the ForumDo you have any of these problems? These people, and many more, got suggestions on the Forum (beaveramb.org/forum)

As a new coach owner, I am trying to learn the basics of how it was assembled. I have the Beaver Monterey Wiring Diagrams booklet, and it has been great...but now I have an air leak problem and don't even know where the pumps and valves are to try to resolve the problem (ironically? the air horn just quit operating). Where can I get other Beaver schematics such as Air System, Wiring Paths or available wire pull channels, Dashboard Wiring Schematic?

What is going to be the best bang for my buck when I buy a 50 amp surge protector for the coach ?

I am having a new problem with my '98 Marquis. My chassis batteries are discharging with the coach in storage, while the master switch is off.

For those of you out there with a 400 hp C9, can you tell me what you see for peak boost pressure? Best I see is about 32 psi and I am wondering if this is typical.

I have been having trouble with the black water valve on my coach. Despite being careful not to hold the open switch for more than 1-2 seconds, there are times when pressing the switch does nothing. We are parked at home and plugged into 50 amp shore power. When I looked at the Magnum control panel, it showed the inverter was on. I

turned off the inverter and the residential refer went off and the little LED power light went out. So without the inverter on I have no shore power.

At a Searcy, AR rally 2 C-9 and C-7 CAT engines had low power problems. Both had had injector replacements within the past year and one within the last two weeks. The service shops replaced the failed injectors but did not address what caused the injector failure or the root cause.

Since it's been raining a lot in California, we are now having leaks in certain spots that we have been able to remedy except for the leaking right in front above the door of the coach from the Girard. Apparantly its been leaking for years. Can anybody give us some help with this problem?

My coach power cut out twice so far today and came back on before I could get the error code. I'm fairly confident that it was a battery temperature issue.

My Engine Is Hiding, Is this a Beaver thing? The engine bay access in my 2002 Patriot Monticello 40' seems to be limited to the floor hatch in the bedroom, which provides a good view of the top of the engine only. I don't have a clue as to how I might replace any fan belts or other components.

We have a 2008 PT without factory solar. I'd like to install solar on it.

Unfortunately I had an accident the other day and damaged 2 bay doors beyond repair. Is there any place that might have replacements, new or used bay doors that I can tell my RV body shop about?

Greetings to all Beaver Club members!

We hope everyone had an enjoyable win-ter and are now having a great spring. Chris and I had an interesting winter in Arizona with record cold temperatures and then record hot tempera-tures. We had a great time, however, and enjoyed getting together again with many of our Beaver friends as well as with other friends at Happy Trails. We also had a chance to visit with both our granddaughters during this time so we had a great trip with no coach issues!

Unfortunately, we missed the Rayne rally due to family commitments back home, but I understand it was a great success and we should thank the rally masters Vicki and Roy Warren with help from the Legers and Allemans. One very big announcement made during the meeting was that Beaver Coach Sales & Service has purchased the Beaver name and logo. Does that mean that in the future BCS will be putting another shingle out front of the Bend office reading "Beaver Coach Manufacturing?" What can I say but WOW!

Speaking of Beaver Coach Sales, we stopped there on the way home for service work. They do great service work for our members and for a very rea-sonable price. Thank you Beaver Coach Sales & Service!

Region 1 is gearing up for 2016 rallies. We have a total of 6, including the Beavers BAC(k) to the Woods International Rally this September 13-18, 2016. I understand that you can still book this rally, so please get that rally coupon sent to Marina Wolf-gram soon. This would be a great rally for a first time member. All the rallies for 2016 are listed in your BT and on the BAC website http://beaveramb.org/. Most of the rallies are full but wait lists are al-ways open so get your rally coupons in to the rally masters if you’re interested as changes can happen.

I am working with Dean Johnson (our region 1 Director) on the 2017 rallies. So far there are two rallies in the works and we hope to see their ads in Beaver Tales soon. For Region 1, the year 2017 will be an "off year" for rallies. The reason for this is because there are no large FMCA, Good Sam or In-ternational rallies in our area. Also the active rally masters are doing other things including travel to rallies outside of our region.

Our Club will have an international rally in Tuc-son, AZ, in April of 2017. One idea to stimulate Region 1 activity would be to work in a rolling rally starting in the NW or perhaps starting in CA or AZ. We would also welcome other rally ideas from our Region 1 members by contacting me or Dean Johnson. We would be glad to help with dates, or-ganization, budgets & ads. All we need are willing members and fun ideas!

At Rayne the BOD selected Gillette, WY for our 2018 International Rally. We should be looking for Rally Masters that might lead us from Region 1 to the Gillette rally or maybe work on rally ideas that would follow the Gillette rally.

In closing, Chris and I wish you a great Spring and Summer wherever you will be hanging your hat. We look forward to seeing many of you at some of our summer and fall rallies in Region 1 and then onto our International "BAC(k)" to the Woods rally.

Welcome New BAC MembersHere is the newest group of RVers who have decided that BAC membership is a good investment. Maybe they are using the BAC Forum to get free advice on coach problems; to find how to upgrade their interior; or to locate needed parts or service. Or maybe they are enjoying rallies that lets them use their coaches to see the best that the country has to offer. And don't forget one of the best benefits of BAC membership - making lifelong friendships.

Here it is time again to put pen to paper and give my version of what is going on in region 2. By the time you read

this Beaver Tales, summer will be just around the corner, and spring of 2016 will be in the history books with just our memories to remind us what took place. In case you are starting to forget, let me remind you. It rained and rained, and rained. It rained in Northern California, It rained in South-ern California, and it rained in Nevada too. With all that rain, came a bone chilling COLD. This would have been a good year to head south to Ari-zona. Oh, I almost forgot, Kathi and I did head to Surprise, AZ to visit with mom this winter. Well, guess what, It rained in Arizona too. I felt like one of those “old people” that can never get enough heat to keep warm. Well I am getting older, but I’m not that old yet. Enough about last winter, I am glad that is over!!

I would like to take a minute and update you on what happened at the International rally in Rayne, LA. Unfortunately, I cannot do that because I was not there. Oh I planned to be there; I even planned to arrive a couple of days early on Saturday. Kathi and I started out on Monday with five days to make it 1200 miles, sounds simple enough. By Wednesday afternoon we were rolling on to San Antonio, TX with only 300 miles left to go. My Beaver let out some smoke and started to steer hard like it was losing power assist to the steering. We pulled off the road and muscled the steering into a gas station to check it out. Turned out the hydraulic line to the fan had rubbed against the Allison dip stick tube and worn a hole in both. The good Beaver that I am, I took my coach to the local Caterpillar shop for repair. Thursday we get a new hydraulic hose and order a dip stick tube for the Allison. Friday there is no tube available so the old one goes to the weld shop for repair. Friday night Kathi and I are waiting for the CAT dealer to fin-ish up and be on our way. Four mechanics stand-ing by the rear of my coach is never a good sign, but it is time to close, and we will check more on Monday. Well I am not going to be early, I may be just in time. Monday it turns out my steering box is broken and the new one will be here tomorrow. I said I muscled the steering into the gas station, but I had no idea I was that strong. Well Tuesday night the new steering box is on and Kathi and I are waiting for them to finish up and get on our way. We can still make some of the rally. Again, four mechanics standing by the rear of my coach is never a good sign. It seems that while waiting for the steering box, the Cat dealer decided to dis-assemble the steering pump to insure everything was OK. Now with the new steering box installed, there is no pressure from the pump. When the CAT

dealer disassembled the pump again, it turned out the seals had been damaged during the prior in-spection. The new power steering pump will ar-rive Thursday morning. Friday is the last day of the rally, and if I drive hard, I can get there just in time for the goodbye hugs. I don’t think It was meant for me to go to Louisiana this year.

Thank heaven for a great Director helping me with Region 2 business. Alan Scott took over all my du-ties, attended meetings , enjoying great meals, par-tied with our friends and steadily reported what a great time I was missing. Seriously, Alan did a great job, even lining up the 2016 Christmas rally in our region.

I guess I better talk about what is coming up in our region. There are still some opportunities to join the fun at a Beaver rally. Here are some rallies in region 2 that promise to be fun filled:• RELAXING ON THE KLAMATH: What to do

after a busy International rally in Canyonville? “RELAX.” This is a great stop over before you head on down to the Draft Horse Classic. We found a 10 rated campground overlooking the river. Then we have a few planned activities, but mostly just relaxing on the Klamath. Take a look at the advertisement in this issue. This promises to be a nice stop over.

• DRAFT HORSE CLASSIC IV: This very pop-ular rally is going to happen again in 2016. This rally has a short waiting list.

• WINE MEETS GOLD COUNTRY: Fall in Northern California is just beautiful, and this rally just adds more fun to everything you have already enjoyed. It is sponsored by Our Region 2 Director, Alan and Carol Scott and should be a good one. Wine in the gold coun-try is designed to continue your Northern California adventure before you head home or south for the winter. While I write this, there is one space left.

• FALL ON THE COAST: This rally will take you to beautiful Paso Robles CA., and is a further continuation if the series of travels working the way south from Canyonville. Fall on the Coast rally masters are Bob and Pam Blair. If you had an opportunity to join their Dam rally, you know what a great rally they can put together.

Also in this issue you will see the Region 2 annual Christmas rally. This time promises to be one of the best, featuring a more southern venue at a top notch RV Resort. Check out the ad in this Beaver Tales, and get your registration in early.

There is a lot going on in Region 2, some tried-and-true places we have been before, and some new places we have never been. If you have an idea for a rally, give me a call, and I will see if I can make it happen for our club.

Travel safely and see you soon.

Summer is here and we are in Montana enjoy-ing the "grands." What a great time we had in the south. The BAC International Rally was a

smashing success. With lessons on growing craw-fish, to a swamp tour, to Cajun music, it was good food, good friends and fun. Many thanks to Roy and Vicki Warren for all of their thought and skillful planning. It was such a good time.

The business meetings and various committees met to work together to find ways and means to ensure the BAC continues to meet the needs of the mem-bers for years to come.

Roy and I went on from Rayne to enjoy New Or-leans, Memphis and other beautiful places in the southeast before starting our trek back to the north-west. We had a chance to stop and see family and friends we had not seen in decades. It was truly a great spring for us.

We are looking towards fall and the exciting rallies coming up. Rushin by Rushmore kicks off our short list of rallies for the end of summer. The rally signup time is past but you can always get on that waiting list in case of cancellation. Beavers in Butte follows that and there could be a possibility of still attending.

We are looking at some exciting areas in 2017 so watch your Beaver Tales for future rallies in Region 3.

We hope to see you in Canyonville in September at the BAC International Rally there. I know it's going to be a great time. One of the most exciting things about International Rallies is that there are so many members attending it give us a chance to meet peo-ple we have not had the privilege of meeting before or maybe met briefly before, but this time actually got a chance to get acquainted. We look forward to getting acquainted with you in Canyonville and hope you join us there.

We just finished a bunch of rallies in Louisiana before and after the BAC International Rally in Rayne,

Louisiana.  They were all lots of fun and very informative about alligators, crayfish, rice growing and milling, the Cajun culture and history, music and the lifestyle of these warm and friendly folks. And, everyone enjoyed the beauty of the south Louisiana landscape. Without a doubt, everyone got to experience Cajun food at its best! We then had two rallies in Texas and attendees were treated to some of the most beautiful caves in the USA!

In 2017, Region 4 will start out the year with Roy & Carol Mueller as Rally Masters for the Quartzsite rally in January. This is always a great rally that lots of folks enjoy.

The FMCA Family Reunion will be in Chandler, Arizona in March of 2017. Immediately following FMCA, BAC will have 3 regional rallies before the big rally in Tucson. The first will be ‘Red Rocks Rendezvous’ with Tim & Diana Bentley as Rally Masters.  The dates are March 12-18, 2017 (with a one day extension available for those going on to the Nichols rally in Globe on March 19.) The location is Dead Horse Ranch State Park in Cottonwood, Arizona and will feature trips to the beautiful red rock country of Sedona and the old mining town of Jerome.

Jim and Natasha Nichols will be Rally Masters for the next two rallies.  The first is a rally in Globe, Arizona. Look for the ad for ‘Gathering in Globe’ - March 19-25, 2017.

Their next rally will be at Catalina State Park and will be visiting some sites that are not included in the Tucson rally.  This one is ‘Making Tracks to Tucson’ - March 26 - April 1, 2017.

The BAC International Rally, ‘Sunshine & Saguaros’ will be held in Tucson, Arizona April 4-9, 2017 at the Tucson/Lazydays KOA.  We have several interesting places to visit and will have lots of seminars. It is a beautiful area with plenty to enjoy and this will be a nice time of the year to visit.

We hope you will make plans to attend these rallies.Glenda

Understanding Our Diesel Engine By Dave Atherton

One very important point I would like to pass on -- most all problems we have today with the diesel engine in our motorhomes are minor and fuel related. The root cause of most engine failures starts between fuel tank in front and engine in back. The aftermath or failure occurs within the engine itself. When a member has problem on the road, the service repair shop will start working on the failure within the engine (which in many cases results in a high outlay of money) but the cause of the failure has not been addressed.

One of these potential problems that Beaver members with Caterpillar engines may have has surfaced since September of 2015. This is a problem that affects all model CAT engines which have rubber hydraulic fuel hoses. Deterioration of the interior rubber surface of the fuel line (which is aggravated by biodiesel fuel) causes flaking of the rubber. Flakes can stop at  the fuel transfer pump inlet or suction connection. Another hydraulic fuel hose going from the water/fuel filter discharge to the inlet of the engine fuel transfer pump can also flake off rubber.

How does flaking affect engine performance? These flakes can cause low fuel pressure which can cause low power. Low fuel pressure can also cause cavitation of fuel which will damage injectors. Here is a perfect example of how addressing the root cause (<$150) may avoid the aftermath failure which would be far more expensive to repair.

Ed. Note: Dave is a retired CAT mechanic and frequent contributer to the BAC Forum. He has posted more

information about this problem and costs for replacing these hoses on the forum. Go to http://beaveramb.org/forum and search (member only function) for Fuel supply line disintegration

You may travel to the International Rally location from here, and stay for the rally rate there prior to the beginning of Sunshine and Saguaros Send $50 deposit to hold your spot. More details in the next Beaver Tales.

Save Those Pull Tabs from Mandy Canales

It doesn't take much to wiggle off the pull tab from any kind of a can and store them until you get to a Beaver rally with someoone who collects them. Why should all BAC members be doing this? Because for each tab collected, Ronald McDonald House (housing for families of sick children) get credit for a whole can and caring Beavers have probably collected more than a million by now. That's a lot of help for such a simple act. Most BAC rallies will have someone collecting, but if not bring them (or send with someone going) to the International rallies.

Our treasury is in good shape. Our profit from Amazon is well above what we expected, and that is thanks to you, our members who are using the Amazon portal directly from the forum or our webpage. If you don’t use

it, would you please start as it will not cost you anything, but does generate some money for the club.

Our expenses are down, but that is mainly because the International Rally was held in April vice March, and the expenses for the membership directory and the rally expense associated with the International Rally will show up in the next report.

I thank all involved with the Rayne International Rally, Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler. I especially thank all who volunteered to do odd jobs at the rally and those who donated to us to help make the rally successful. The cash donations came from Beaver Coach Sales and Service, RV Outfitters, Mary Moppins, Inc., Russell and Judie Alleman, and Creative Coaches. We had some very nice door prizes for the Corporate Meeting donated by Greg Fulton’s Fine Woodworking; Driving Force Graphics in Bend, OR; and Chef Roy’s in Rayne, LA. Many other local Rayne busi-nesses also donated gifts and if you are ever travelling through Rayne, stop and shop.

Don’t forget to give Overland Insurance a chance to do your insurance needs. Please use the portals on our forum and website to at least get a quote from them. Also, if you are comparing in the second or third year of renewal with them, make sure you are comparing the same policies. If you don’t update your information with Overland, you might find it a little high as you are using the old value of your coach whereas another company is using the present value of your coach. If you want to keep your insurance low, change these values annually.

Hi Folks,

it’s been another busy quarter, In March we held the Beavers On Mobile Bay rally and all who attended the rally seemed to enjoy themselves. The only regret we have is that there are far more things to see and do in the area than we could possibly accomplish during the allotted time for this particular rally. The rally was held at Meaher state park in Spanish Fort. The camp-ground is reasonably priced, clean, quiet, well run, and a great place to stop for a day or a week. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend staying at Meaher State Park.

When we left Alabama we decided to do some sightseeing in Louisiana for the 8 days before the start of the club business meetings in Rayne. I had lived and worked in the New Orleans area in the 70’s and traveled extensively throughout the state on business. But I never really had an oppor-tunity to just be a tourist. We started with a few days on the North Shore of Lake Pontchartrain at Fontainebleau State Park in Mandeville, LA. That provided us a base to explore Abita Springs and take a day trip into New Orleans for a visit to Mardi Gras World and to have lunch at Mothers on Poydras. A word of caution for anyone follow-ing our route. The Lake Pontchartrain causeway is nearly 24 miles long with expansion joints about every 150 feet. This is not a route I would recommend taking your coach unless you like having a death grip on the steering wheel while you are bouncing your rig for 23+ miles. From Mandeville we moved to Morgan City so that we could visit the Oil Rig museum and spend a day at Avery Island. Our second day in Morgan City Rett and Claire Porter’s Beavers in the Bayou ral-ly started at Lake End Park, the campground we were staying at. I knew they would be in the area but didn’t realize they would be in the same park. It’s always good to get together and spend a little time with our Beaver friends.

From Morgan City we made the short trip to Rayne for the international rally “Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler” being hosted by Roy and Vickie Warren. As usual, Roy and Vickie along with their co-rally masters did an excellent job making sure everyone had a good time at the in-ternational rally in a very friendly community. The folks in Rayne from the mayor on down bent over backwards to make us feel welcome.

As you read this column we will have probably completed the Beavers in the Low Country rally in Charleston, South Carolina with the help and guidance of our co-rally masters John and Sher-ry Bagwell. At this point we are looking forward to hosting the rally. Charleston was founded in 1670 and is known for its well-preserved archi-tecture, low country cuisine, rich history, and friendly residents. Beavers in the Low Country rally should provide exposure to the area’s his-tory, architecture, and food. Jerry & Sue Leon-ard’s rally “Hangout in Hatteras II” will be run-ning from May 23rd – 27th . Eileen and I are both looking forward to spending time on the outer banks of North Carolina and visiting Kitty Hawk and Kill Devil Hills for the first time.

There are two rallies scheduled in the East this summer. Both rallies are being hosted by Peter and Connie Bradish. The first of these is Bea-vers at Escapade and it will be held July 24th to 29th in Essex Junction, VT. The flyer and slide show are at http://beaveramb.org/beavers-at-escapade-july-24-29-2016/. The second rally is Securing Springfield and it will be held from July 31 thru August 3rd additional details on this rally are available in Beaver Tales and at http://beaveramb.org/securing-springfield-volunteer-rally-july-31-2016/.

When we talk to folks on the road who are not members of BAC, they are surprised by the num-ber, costs and variety of rallies we are able to at-tend on an annual basis. As a group, BAC mem-bers usually host 20 – 25 regional rallies per year at prices which are very reasonable considering the locations, activities and meals offered during the rallies. This is a tremendous benefit for the general membership and the couples hosting ral-lies deserve our thanks.

Wow – what a privilege to serve as your new BAC Secretary and what a learning experience!

Although I have been a secretary and a city clerk, every organization handles matters somewhat differently. My first surprise after agreeing to fill the unexpired term of Pat Gerber, was that as Secretary of the BAC I would be a voting member of the Board of Directors (BOD). This means I have a great responsibility to all the members of BAC not only to keep accurate records of the meetings but to research and vote wisely on items affecting the entire membership of BAC. Rest assured I do not take this responsibility lightly and will endeavor to handle every aspect of my duties in a professional manner.

The International Rally was non-stop fun! Vicki and Roy Warren, as well as the Co-rally Masters, kept us entertained continually – and the food was never ending! Developed a taste for Cajun food and ate way too much, but enjoyed every moment.

I survived my first Board Meeting as Secretary, learning there

is a great amount done to ensure BAC remains a first-class organization. BAC President Mike Humble, the Regional Vice Presidents and Directors, the Treasurer, the National Director and Alternate National Director, the Membership Director, the Beaver Tales Editor, the Web Site Manager, the Sunshine Lady, and the East and West Coast First Timers Hosts all volunteer their time to attend the International Rallies and meetings in conjunction with these rallies. Prior to arriving, hours have already been spent researching items on the agenda and preparing their respective reports for the meeting(s). Be sure to take the time to thank your representatives and attend International Rallies whenever you possibly can. You are also welcome to attend the Board of Directors meetings, as well as the Corporate Meeting, when you join us at the next International Rally in Canyonville!

Members will soon be voting on the nominations for President, Treasurer, Secretary, National Director, Alternate National Director, Region 3 and Region 5 Vice Presidents, approved at the Corporate Meeting in Rayne LA. Please take the time to know the people nominated and be sure to vote!

I look forward to serving as your Secretary and hope to meet many of you at the next International Rally to be held in Canyonville OR, September 13 – 18, 2016.

BAC Recipe BoxAfter spending almost a month in Loui-siana, many Beavers have developed a taste for Cajun and Creole foods. Here are a couple of the highlights. There are variations for both, so don't be afraid to experiment a little if you try these.

Let the Good Times RollRayne International Rally

The Frog Capitol of the World welcomed Beavers to Rayne and a lot of "Good Times Rolled." Boudian and cracklins, a pot of jambalaya and a whole pig cooked right in front of us highlighted the great food. Days and nights were filled activities -- a magician a hypnotist, games (how well do YOU know your spouse?!) and music, music, music (along with LOTS of door prizes.) There were seminars, an emotional flag burning ceremony, and even a frog jumping contest with BIGGGG frogs. And don't forget the best swamp tour ever! Thank you Roy and Vicki Warren and all their assistants for a great rally.

As you read in my last report, you know Claire and I have season tickets for the NASCAR races in Las Vegas and Phoenix just before the Perry, Georgia, FMCA Family Re-

union and Motorhome Showcase. On March 13th, Claire and I left the Phoenix race with 33 laps to go. We wanted to beat the crowd, and we did, but we were trying to get to Perry, Georgia as soon as possible since the security volunteers were meeting on Mon-day, March 14th to get parked. Garland and Dorothy Land had left Phoenix several days ahead of us and were the captains for the security volunteers. Claire and I were the co-captains, and we planned to arrive on Tuesday, March 15th. Garland and Dorothy did an outstanding job, and the reports we heard about their pre-sentation of scheduling the volunteers were that they had the best format of any volunteer team presentation. Everything went pretty much as planned and all comments from the security volunteers were all positive, with everyone having a great time.

Well, you are probably wondering if Claire and I made it to Perry. We left Phoenix at about 3:30 PM on Sunday, had 3 time zone changes as this was the weekend for Daylight Savings Time, there-fore, we lost 3 hours. We took turns driving, but 52 hours after start-ing our marathon drive of over 1,950 miles, we arrived on Tuesday at 7 PM in the Georgia National Fairgrounds holding area, where we spent the night, meeting everyone on Wednesday morning. We discovered we had a bent tow bar that we did not know when the damage occurred, but we made it.

FMCA Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase had about 2600 coaches in attendance. Entertainment was great all three nights, and this was verified by observing that almost all members who came then stayed through the performance.

We started our BAC Louisiana rallies just 2 days after leaving Perry. New Orleans was very successful, with attendees claiming that it was too short and we should host a Beavers on Bourbon Street II in the next few years. We all had a wonderful time including 3 Easter Parades; city tours on Hop-on, Hop-off; eating beignets at Café Du Monde; having King Cake at Mardi Gras World; spending the day at the World War II Museum; and eating at the wonderful restaurants around town. Then we rolled on to Morgan City where we had one of our most interesting tours. The Greenwood Gator Farm tour left everyone in awe with all the details of gathering ga-tor eggs, raising them, and keeping the gators thriving in Louisiana swamps. Our other 2 rallies followed the Warrens’ 2016 BAC In-ternational Rally in Rayne, LA. In New Iberia we explored Jefferson Island and Shadows-on-the-Teche, took the new expanded tour of Tabasco, enjoyed the Jungle Gardens, visited Konriko Rice Mill, and of course ate great food. Eunice, the Cajun Music Capital of the World and our 4th rally to host, started with a cochon de lait, a pig cooked over an open pit. The music during the rally was great because it displayed the nourishing of young people by older musi-cians to continue the Cajun styles of music. On our last day of the rally we started at 9am in the world famous Fred’s of Mamou listen-ing and dancing to a live band, then moved over to Savoy’s Music Center for a jam session of as many as 26 musicians of all ages playing Cajun songs all at once. They would change out musi-cians and instruments playing until after 1PM. Evening brought us down to the Liberty Theater for a live radio broadcast of upcoming award winning teenagers playing Cajun music and singing in Cajun French. We think that rally attendees were amazed at the family

traditions being continued through the Cajun music.

Rayne was the location of our BAC business meeting. In my report to the board, I was happy to report that FMCA continues to have positive growth in membership in 3 of the last 4 months. The changes that Charlie Adcock has made are really moving FMCA back on the right track. I reported that Jerry Yeatts, FMCA Executive Director, resigned the last week of February. For now, Charlie Adcock and the executive board will be covering the Executive Director’s responsibilities. They are not going to rush to fill the position in haste, but will take their time to find the best person for the job.

This August, Claire and I will be in West Springfield, Mass. for FMCA’s 94th Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase. This is the business meeting for FMCA, and I will be there to vote as your National Director. The Texas Tenors will be putting on a wonderful show, but they said that they plan to spend some quality time with our Beaver Security Volunteers at one of our social hours. This will make a wonderful addition to a great rally. We hope that if you are in the Midwest, South, or East Coast (or anywhere in the U.S.!), that you will plan on joining us. Peter and Connie Bradish will be hosting the Securing Springfield Volunteer Rally, July 31 for 3 nights before FMCA. Additionally, Peter and Connie will be holding Beavers at Escapade, in Essex Junction, Vermont, which will lead members toward Springfield, Mass.

One of the things that Claire and I worked on in February before leaving Arizona was being part of the FMCA site visit for two days at Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, AZ. We were there with Charlie Adcock, FMCA President; Gloria Adcock, Charlie’s wife who coor-dinates the welcome volunteers; Jon Walker, National Senior Vice President & Convention Committee Chair; Jerry Yeatts, FMCA Ex-ecutive Director; Chris Lusk, FMCA Director of Events and Com-mercial Services; Jack Mayberry, Rocky Mountain Regional VP and Host Area; and Jim Rosenberg, President, Hale Expo Ser-vices. Claire and I were invited to observe the operations and to have input on security requirements, as well as to make predic-tions about participation of those of us who winter in this area. The first day was spent meeting members of the tribal manage-ment, and then touring the facilities and deciding which rooms and buildings would be suitable for the meetings. We also drove around the property to consider parking areas, approach routes, holding area location, etc. We explored the exhibit hall building and surrounding area for vendors, both inside and outdoor. The second day was spent reviewing the plans to make the facilities work for FMCA and meeting with the local visitors bureaus. Ad-ditionally, consideration was given to make date adjustments for fiscal responsibility. Moving the date back into the week by one day will save FMCA a considerable amount money in booking the facilities which are tourist destinations on weekends. This ex-perience was very educational, and we learned a lot about what does into planning for all of the coaches and attendees. Wild Horse Pass in Chandler, AZ will be the site of the FMCA Reunion and Motorhome Showcase, March 7 through 10, 2017. A major change will be to have a 4 day pass that includes all activities including entertainment, but there will be no “day passes” as in previous FMCA Family Reunions and Motorhome Showcases. This was decided because of the large number of members who winter in the Arizona area and may not want to move their coach, but might prefer to drive their car to the events. We hope that you will schedule the Chandler, AZ, FMCA Family Reunion and Motorhome Showcase in your plans for Spring of 2017.

We look forward to seeing you at future FMCA and BAC events.

saved money using the advice they received there.) There is technical help; information on finding parts; ideas on changing

your coach; for sale, rent, or wanted ads; information on members who are facing challenges; and opportunities to get together with other Beavers.

While anyone can read the BAC Forum, you must be a BAC member to get access to all areas and services.

Go to beaveramb.org/forum and check it out.

The outstanding Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler rally ~~ “Let the Good Times Roll” ~~ surely proved to be a

perfect translation! What an outstanding experience for great times! The activities were excellent and varied, the seminars interesting and informative, the touching ceremony for dis-posing of tired and tattered flags was beautifully presented, the culinary specialties were tasty treats, and the hospitality shown by the city of Rayne was truly incredible! This highlights but doesn’t begin to touch the week’s adventure! We thank the great Rally Master crew with Ms Vicki at the helm for the Warrens, Allemans, Legers as well as numerous volunteers! The Board of Directors and committees accomplished very productive meetings.

The calendar says summer is on the way, some days it seems logical, others prove not even a glimmer of possibility! But soon we’ll have warm, sunny days we can all enjoy. This is undoubt-edly what our 36 new members included with 926 current mem-bers are anxiously anticipating. If you have a friend who would enjoy the great times we enjoy as well as the information pro-vided on the Forum, please introduce them to BAC! Beaver Tales always has applications for those with qualifying coaches to become a member of both BAC and FMCA. Completing ap-plications on the Forum is a very quick way to become a mem-ber! The Forum with full access to all areas will be waiting for you. The Forum is the perfect source where many questions are answered and solutions created ~~ there are always great tips you’ve never considered!

The upcoming rallies promise some very interesting ven-ues. We’re looking forward to the International rally, Beavers BAC(k) to the Woods, in September. There are also numerous rallies to enjoy preceding and following. Quickly make your plans, rallies fill rapidly. Don’t hesitate to request being on a “wait list,” there are always unavoidable cancellations so you’ll probably have a good chance.

Have a wonderful summer, please travel safely ~~ we’ll see you down the road!Iris

Space Adventures By Mary Findley

Shelf by shelf, drawer by drawer, nineteen years of ac-cumulated papers, articles, ‘to do’ lists and magazines in my office are finding their way to the recycle bin. This col-lection of must have information multiplies faster than unwelcomed notices in my email inbox. Let’s take a look at a few tips to free up some storage space. After all, the next town you visit might have some delightful shops and space will be needed to store those treasures!

Three ring binders: The next time you pass an office sup-ply store purchase a few three-ring binders, divider sheets and a three-hole punch. Mark one binder “Outside Ar-ticles” and another “Inside Articles.” Sort through maga-zines and remove ‘keeper’ articles. Separate them into general categories, label the dividers accordingly and file the articles rather than hoard the entire magazine.

As you go through the magazine does a product or com-pany look interesting? Start a word document file on your laptop or add an additional page to a three ring binder. List the company name, general products or service, phone number, address and website for later reference.

Can the clutter: A quick look inside the cabinets should reveal space saving ideas. Since the binders are ready, tackle any area that contains papers. Sort, file and toss.

Next take a deep breath and open up the kitchen draw-ers. Inside is evidence of the multiplying capabilities of twistie ties and other non-essential items. As you rum-mage through drawers and cabinets give everything the two year test. If it hasn’t been used in the last two years, will it ever be used again? If not then surrender the item to a proper final resting spot, which is not back inside the drawer. Empty the drawer, clean it with a good bees wax based wood care product then tuck in a drawer organiz-er. Some organizers have a two tier system with the lower section for large kitchen utensils while the upper tier cradles silverware. Organize.com offers several stackable drawer organizers. Some take up only half the drawer, which leaves the other half for bulkier items. Next tackle the spice cabinet. Replace any spice more than a year past its expiration date. Give our Earth a boost by refilling herb bottles with organic bulk herbs rather than replacing the entire bottle. The aroma of organic

bulk herbs delight the senses and taste buds unlike most of their bottled counterparts. My favorite herb compa-ny is Mountain Rose Herb, located here in Eugene, OR. Mountainroseherbs.com.

Open the upper cabinets and haul everything out. Apply the two year ‘user’ test. Clean the shelf and add a cabinet organizer if suitable. This same pro-cess applies to the remaining kitchen, bedroom and bathroom cabinets. Closets: The routine remains the same. Remove every-thing from the closet. Toss, sort then clean the shelves. Add appropriate organizers like plastic fishing tackle box-es with flat lids that double as storage for sewing items, craft projects and first aid kits. Most are stackable for ad-ditional space savings. Keep an eye on your tackle box ladies or you’ll find it in the storage bay full of nails, bolts, nuts and other small objects.

Closet Maid, found at hardware stores, has a great wire storage basket that can be mounted on the upper wall of the closet for additional storage space. The front of the basket is open for easy access with a lip to prevent items from tumbling out although an additional strap is advis-able. What a great place to store off season or little used pieces of clothing. Beginning and end. Every project has a beginning and an ending. Start this project by measuring the width, length and height of drawers, cabinets and closets. Then take a picture of the space with your cell phone for a quick reminder of the layout when shopping for stor-age containers. Kick around hardware stores or kitchen and bath stores. They carry dozens of creative storage and organizational ideas. Just remember to take the measurements with you.
