Summer Adult Reading Program 2016 Join the Adult Summer Reading Program and be entered to win great prizes! The program runs for

seven weeks from June 13—July 30, 2016. The summer program BINGO sheets will be available starting

Monday, June 6th. This program is open to adults 18 and over.

1) Read books or participate in activities on the BINGO entry sheet and then fill in the square. A bingo

can be side to side, diagonally, or up-and-down. OPTIONAL: To pick a prize from the weekly prize cart,

bring your sheet in each week and staff will stamp your sheet to mark your progress.

2) Hand in your entry sheet with a bingo at the Check-Out Desk by Saturday, July 30th to be entered in the Adult Summer

Reading Program prize drawing and select a special prize from the end of summer prize cart.

Workshops & Events All workshops and events are free. No sign-up or additional materials needed for programs unless otherwise noted. Zumba for Beginners | Tuesday, June 7 – 6 p.m. Energetic class to learn Latin dance moves in a high impact workout with fitness instructor Monica Krueger. This Zumba class can accommodate people with all abilities with a chair-based zumba aerobic workout. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes.

Beaver Dam History Series: All City Circus | Tuesday, June 21— 6 p.m. (All ages welcome) Local historian Roger Noll shares stories and video footage from the much-loved Beaver Dam’s All City Circus.

Genealogy Forum | Wednesday, June 22, July 20 & August 17 | 6-8 pm Do you have questions about your family's history or are stuck on an ancestral link? Library staff will share library resources available for genealogy research and will help to point you in the right direction with your research.

Dirty Kettle Presentation Bringing Native History to Life | Tuesday, June 28—1 p.m. & 3 p.m. (All ages welcome) Dirty Kettle Sacred Native American Drum Circle – 6 p.m. Step back in time to the days of fur traders and Native Americans, mountain man Dirty Kettle will bring history alive during this hands-on presentation of Native American life during the 1800-1850 period. Later at 6 p.m., Dirty Kettle will be back to play his flutes and drums. You are invited to play traditional Native American drums and join in the sacred Drum Circle Ceremony.

Cooking Workshop: Summer Grilling | Tuesday, July 12 – 6 p.m. Learn tips and trick to make your summer grilling a success with local outdoor grilling enthusiast Julio Molina.

Spinning for Beginners for Families & Kids | Wednesday, July 13 – 2:30 p.m. (Ages 5 and up) Local Fiber Artist and owner of Babe's Fiber Garden Bee Hahn will demonstrate and teach spinning a wheel and drop spindle.

Beaver Dam History Series: Dodge County Fair | Tuesday, July 19 — 6 p.m. (All ages welcome) Local Historian Roger Noll will share amazing video footage and tell stories of the Dodge County Fair, known as the “World’s Greatest County Fair,” from the days when the fair was held in Beaver Dam.

On the Home Front Civil War Program with Stories and Songs | Monday, July 25, 2016 – 6 p.m. (All ages welcome) Be transported to the time of the Civil War with Judy Cook's historical program with farm and homefront stories & songs. Cooking Workshop: Tea Time– Teas and Treats from Around the World | Tuesday, July 26 — 6 p.m. Local home chef Mason Zantow will travel the world of teas, sharing tips on making several different tea preparations and fabulous recipes for mouth-watering dishes to serve with teas. Workshop recipes will be given to all participants.

Silk Scarf Dyeing | Wednesday, August 3 — 6 p.m. Sign up required. Local artist Shannon Kelly will teach a class on how to dye and embellish silk scarves.

Old World Cooking, Arts & Crafts Series: American Indian Beading Day with Little Eagle Arts Foundation | Saturday, August 6- 10:00 am - 2:30 pm (4 hour workshop, plus a half hour break for lunch ) Sign up required. Limit: 15. Learn the tradition of Iroquois beadwork with Oneida nation beadwork artist Karen Ann Hoffman during this workshop. Participants will make a beaded strawberry which holds deep meaning for people of the Iroquois Confederacy.

Jim Gibbons History Program: Amelia Earhart: Soaring High on Wings of Success | Wednesday, August 10 – 6 p.m. Historian Jim Gibbons will present the life of Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly across the Atlantic.

Old World Cooking, Arts & Crafts Series: Yarn Dyeing | Tuesday, August 16 – 6 p.m. Sign up required. Local artist Shannon Kelly will teach how to dye yarn in this hand-on workshop.

Yoga for Beginners | Tuesday, August 23 — 6 p.m. Sign up required. Wellness Instructor Monica Krueger teach the basics of Yoga. Wear comfortable clothes & bring a yoga mat or towel to class.

Destress: Exercises for Stretching and Relaxation | Tuesday, August 30 — 6 p.m. Sign up required. Relax and slow down at the library. Wellness Instructor Monica Krueger will share exercise for relaxation and flexibility. Essential Oil Workshop | Wednesday, August 31 — 6 p.m. Sign up required. doTerra Wellness Advocate Jackee Hill will share the health benefits of using essential oils. Participants will make a Roller Bottle Remedy to take home.

TEEN SUMMER

READING Program

The Teen Summer Reading Program runs from Monday,

June 13th-Saturday, July 30th. Sign-up for the program

begins on Monday, June 6th.

Teens are asked to read five books during the program

and share mini reviews with the library. Additional prizes

can be earned by completing various fitness activities, in

an effort to focus on this year’s theme, Sports and Fitness.

Complete all five books for a $10 certificate to use at the

End of the Summer Usborne Book Fair at the library! The

book fair will be held from Monday, August 1st-Saturday,

August 6th.

Coding Club | Tuesday, July 26th @ 2:00 p.m. Children ages eight and up are invited to learn more about coding! Using the online program, Hour of Code,

participants will have the opportunity to practice coding and develop a computer game of their own!

SUMMER READING PROGRAM June 6th-August 6, 2016

Young people everywhere share a passion for play. This summer, we explore sports, games, and movement through books, activities, science experiments, art projects, and more. Every child, whether a sports fan or not, is sure to enjoy this summer’s program. On your mark, get set, read!

The kids’ FREE Summer Reading Program runs for seven weeks. Summer reading logs will be available at the Library starting Monday, June 6th.

Meet your daily goal of reading 15 minutes in order to re-ceive a fun prize each week. Kids completing all seven weeks of the program will receive a $10 coupon to use at the End of Summer Usborne Book Fair! In addition, kids will have the chance to participate in the Weekly Drawing for each week completed and have the opportunity to earn extra prizes by completing special fitness activities!

The final day to turn in reading logs is Saturday, July 30th. If there is a conflict, please plan accordingly or see a librarian to make special arrangements.

The Kid’s Reading Program is for children entering 7th grade and younger. There is no minimum age requirement for the summer reading program. Young children may be read to or read with a friend or family member. Most prizes are in-tended for children over 3 years of age.

Beaver Dam 175th Anniversary Parade & Picnic Saturday, July 16, 2016

Celebrate Beaver Dam’s 175th anniversary with the library! Join the library staff at the 175th Anniversary Picnic at Swan Park after the parade. The Library booth will have fun activities for kids, including professional face painting and photos with the Minions.

The Storybook Parade will begin at @ 1 p.m. as the Minions lead the parade through Swan Park. We welcome you to dress up like your favorite storybook character and walk in the historic sto-rybook parade. Many of you will remember the Friends of the Library Storybook Parade that was held from 1971 to 1995. All ages are welcome! Participants will receive a complimentary gift.
