Dear Parents,

We are extremely proud of our exciting and engaging curriculum at Beauclerc and this week has

been an excellent example of this. Blue and Orange Class had a brilliant Animal Magic Zoo

experience where they met many different animals, which is inspiring the children in their writing.

Purple Class also went to ‘Little Street’, which created many opportunities for children to engage in

role-play and develop their personal and social skills further. Following the visit, the staff at Little

Street took the time to email the school to praise the children and the staff for how well they

represented the school.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mr Macgill

Blue class

This week in Blue Class we had a fantastic time at our Animal Magic zoo experience! We got

up close to lots of different animals and learnt lots of new things about each. The children

met a Royal Python, a Bearded Dragon, an Armadillo, two Pygymy Hedgehogs, a Tortoise, a

Blue and Gold Macaw, an owl and 2 cheeky Meerkats! We also met a new animal that none of

us had ever seen or heard of before, Mia the Patagonian Mara, who had a great time

exploring the school hall! The children were amazed and engaged throughout. We will be

writing recounts about our experience.

In Maths, we have completed our division topic. We have looked at division in problems and

dividing by 2, 5 and 10. From next week, we will be completing a quick 5 minute times table

quiz. Please continue to practise and encourage your children to learn their 2, 5 and 10 times

tables.

In RE, we recapped the Jewish celebration Shabbat. The children had the opportunity to try

a traditional bread that Jewish families eat with their Shabbat meal called challah bread,

they also had grape juice as this is what the children drink with their meal. We used a venn

diagram to compare our weekends to those of a Jewish family.

Have a fantastic weekend :)

Orange class

This week in English, we started learning about 'Recount writing'. We looked at a short video

with Michael Rosen telling us about what to include in a recount. It was great to have tips

from a famous author. We also read several recounts and looked at their features. We

learnt that recounts are written in the past tense and all the events are written in

chronological order. We had a very exciting animal workshop on Tuesday and saw lots of

interesting animals: a Snake, a Bearded Dragon, an Owl, an Armadillo, a Patagonian Mara, a

Hedgehog, some mice, a colourful Parrot and a Tortoise. The children really enjoyed seeing

and learning facts about the animals and were very brave when holding some of

them, including the Snake!!!

We then started drawing pictures about our exciting morning, just like Michael Rosen

suggested, to help us write our recount next week.

In Maths, we partitioned numbers to 100 into tens and ones, ordered numbers from smallest

to greatest and found one more or one less than a given number. We also carried out an

investigation: 'When we add one less than a number, the tens digit always stay the same. Is

it sometimes, never or always true?' We used our reasoning skills and worked with a partner

to answer the question.

Year two investigated odd and even numbers and found out what happens when we add or

multiply two odd or two even numbers. They also started learning about tally charts and bar

charts.

In Science we learnt the different animal groups such as mammals, fish, amphibians, birds,

insects and reptiles and sorted animals in the correct groups, giving a reason for our choice.

We had a lovely week and hope you have a lovely weekend.

Red class

This week in Red Class we have been learning all about instructions. We learnt what

instructions are for and have started to look at how they should be written. We followed a

set of instructions to make a bowl of cereal. This set of instructions were all muddled up! So,

we cut them out and put them in the right order. The children have started to think about

the instructions you have to follow to wash your hands. We are going to be placing our

instructions by the sinks.

In Maths, we have been learning to compare addition number sentences using the greater

than, less than and equal to symbols. We have also been learning to work out the answer to

addition questions mentally by using the strategy of counting on. The Reception children

have been adding cones of popcorn in the ‘theatre performance area’ and working out how

many pieces there are altogether.

In Science, the children have been learning to name and label their body parts. The children

have visited the ‘GP Surgery’ learning space where they pretended to have problems with

different part of their bodies. The children learnt what each function of their body parts is

for.

Please can you make sure your child has a pair of plimsolls in their P.E kit. They are required

to bring plimsolls every Monday for our PE sessions with the sports coach.

Yellow class

The children are really enjoying the new shoe shop learning space. Lots of measuring of feet

and discussions have taken place about which shoes will fit. Please could I remind you all to

check that your children’s names are clearly written in their shoes as sometimes several

children are trying on shoes at the same time. Thank you.

A new car wash has been made for them to take their cars through. It has been lovely to see

the children having so much fun. They have to pay for their car to be cleaned so plenty of

mathematical discussions have taken place.

Our Pancake Cafe is proving very popular. The children have been busy writing their own

shopping lists and lists of possible toppings for their pancakes.

In Phase 3 phonics this week the children have been introduced to the ai and oa digraphs.

They have been introduced to words such as snail, rain, pain and boat, coat, soak.

In Phase 2 phonics this week the children have been revising x, y and z.

The number of the week is 11.

Our guided reading is going well. The children are using their phonic knowledge confidently

to read new words and enjoy talking about the story.

Our story boxes are progressing well and the children are looking forward to sharing their

learning with you. The showcase will take place in the hall next Friday after school.

Purple class

This week Purple Class have been enjoying the traditional tale 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'.

The children have been developing their story telling skills using a range of small world props

and sequencing cards. They have been retelling the story in their own words using the

repetitive text of the familiar tale and by identifying the beginning, middle and end of the

story. The children have loved telling the story acting it out pretending to be the different

characters and using small world billy goats to represent each character in the story. Once

the children were familiar with the story each child created their own storybook. They did

amazing, sequencing pictures and talking confidently about the events of the story.

While learning the story of 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' Purple Class have been using the

language related to size. They have been using the vocabulary big, middle sized and small.

The children have been thinking hard about the size of different objects and they have been

encouraged to use the correct vocabulary when talking about each Billy goat or object.

Through their play dough play Purple class have been developing their understanding of size.

They have been making a range of objects with play dough, those that were big, middle sized

and small.

During the week the nursery children have been exploring a range of textures while creating

their own goat or troll mask. They have been using a mixture of collage materials and paint,

combining textures to create one effect.

On Wednesday, the whole Nursery enjoyed a fantastic day out to Little Street. It was an

amazing day and the children were a credit to themselves. The children played so nicely

together sharing and taking turns. It was so nice to watch them play and interact so well

with each other. Well done Purple Class, we all enjoyed the trip out. Please don't forget to

visit Little Street and collect your school vouchers. If we collect enough school vouchers we

could win a free trip to Little Street during the Summer Term.

Another fun packed week in Beauclerc Nursery despite the very wet and cold weather.

Lunchtime Munchtime!

This week we launched our project to reduce food waste at Beauclerc. The Green Team gave an

assembly on Thursday to introduce the school to the ‘Eat them to Defeat them’ campaign 2020.

We thought it would be a good idea to try our best to eat our vegetables at school and at home.

We can keep healthy at the same time as reducing food waste. The children watched a video

(which you may have seen on the tv) and were asked if they could help by eating vegetables and

trying new ones. The children were definitely up for the challenge!

The project got off to a great start with yellow class demolishing broccoli and cabbage at

lunchtime! They could be heard chanting ‘Eat them to defeat them!’. Please join in with this

campaign at home and get your children eating those vegetables! The children brought home a

poster where they can colour in the vegetables they eat, please support this at home. The Green

Team are hoping to see a reduction in the amount of vegetable food waste over the next few

weeks.
