WELCOME

EASTER DIALOGUE

Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, the fountain of living water, the rock who gave us birth, our light and our salvation.

Blessed are you, O God. Day by day you shower us with blessings. You have brought us through the night of sin into the revealing and healing light of Jesus’ resurrection. Yet our lives are still shadowed by sin.

Pause for reflection

Make us alive in Christ, O God. Make us new as you make all things new. Renew us in grace, and restore us to living in your holiness.

The light of the risen Christ puts to flight all evil deeds, washes away sin, casts out hate, brings peace, and humbles earthly pride. Jesus Christ loves you and + frees you from your sin. To him be glory and dominion forever and ever! Amen.

APOSTLE’S CREED

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of the father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

Please Meet Pastor Gary Sandberg May 15

To the Bethany Lutheran Church Congregation:

You are no doubt aware that Pastor Gary Sandberg, Dean of the Chapel at Capital University, has been recommended for a Call to Word and Sacrament as Lead Pastor at Bethany Lutheran Church. While a flight cancellation prohibited him and his wife, Karen, from joining us in April, there is still an opportunity for the congregation to get acquainted with Pastor Sandberg and the gifts that the Call Committee and Congregation Council believe that he brings to Bethany.

Sunday, May 15

1. Pastor Gary and Karen will worship at 8:30 and 10:00, and an opportunity to get acquainted will follow each service.

2. At 11:30 a.m the Annual Congregational Meeting will be called to order. The agenda includes:

Presentation/approval of 2016/2017 budget

Call to Pastoral Ministry for The Rev. Gary Sandberg

Extension of Call to Pastoral Ministry for The Rev. Russell Britton

Constitution and Bylaws Amendment Ratification

As you are able, please join us on May 15. The Call Committee and the Congregation Council are eager to have you know him as our candidate for Lead Pastor.

In His love,

Marie Friedemann, Congregation President

Greetings from Pastor Gary...

You can watch Pastor Gary’s video at www.Bethanylive.org. It will be playing throughout the morning in the

HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASS OF 2016

The following youth of Bethany Lutheran Church have informed us that they are graduating from High School this spring.

We celebrate with them and their families!

THE STORY OF THE BLANKETS

These blankets have been created and handcrafted especially for our Graduates. They represent the love, warmth and grace of Christ that we first encounter at Baptism and that stays with us through our whole life. Our prayer is that, as the

Graduates wrap themselves in these blankets, they are reminded of God’s presence and the love from their home church. A special thanks to all who worked on them: Nancy Admire, the Aldrich family, the Fornstrom family, Jill Monsen,

Melissa Russ, Gail Scott, and Michelle Stone Kraus.

Our youth have a variety of post high school plans. Those plans include continuing education, military service and joining the work force. Listed below are some of the colleges and universities our youth will be attending:

We apologize if any names were left off the list. If you know of a graduate who was not listed, please call the office at 303-758-2820 and let us know who they are.

We would like to acknowledge them in a future edition of the Beacon and keep in touch with them.

OFFERTORY RESPONSE

WELCOME TO THE LORD’S TABLE

GREAT THANKSGIVING

PREFACE It is indeed right, our duty and our joy... ...we praise your name and join their unending hymn:

SANCTUS

The Preface reminds us that in Christ, we are joined to the Communion of Saints through all time and space.

Bethany welcomes all baptized Christians who have celebrated their first communion to join in receiving the body and blood of Christ in Holy Communion. An usher will direct you when to come forward for the distribution. You will receive the wafer in your hand which you may then dip in the wine. A communion station with alcohol free wine and gluten free wafers is available at every communion service at the center aisle. You may return by the opposite aisle of your section. Those who would like to come forward but do not wish to commune may ask the server for a blessing.

Liturgical Text, Worship Notes and Music: From Sundays and Seasons.com (c) 2016 Augsburg Fortress.

All rights reserved. Reprinted by permission under Augsburg Fortress Liturgies Annual License #26681

Every Sunday in worship we celebrate Jesus’ resurrec-tion. The Sunday liturgy includes references to Easter readings:

“He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again,” says the Apostles’ Creed.

“Christ has died. Christ is risen,” we call out during the Eucharistic prayer.

When we receive the dismissal, it is as if we are the women witnessing to the others: “Go in peace. Share the good news.”
