Podcasts are much like stories told on the radio. Typically, a podcast is hosted by one or two people with a focus on a particular topic or genre. Genres are expansive in the world of podcasts and include history, sports, science and much more. Join us virtually, by telephone or computer device, on Thursday, November 11, from 2-3 PM for an opportunity to experience listening to a podcast with local podcast host, Brian Koscho. The program will start with Brian sharing an episode from his podcast Invisible Ground, titled “Mound Cemetery.” In this episode, Brian will take us to the Marietta, Ohio site to explore the history. Have you noticed a change in your exercise routine since the start of the pandemic? Although we understand that exercising in your home is different, we also want to share that the opportunity to exercise with others virtually during this time has been positive for many. We have found that along with the exercise comes support from one another. If you joined us for exercise prior to the pandemic, you may already understand what our exercise class offers. The program, offered in partnership with United Seniors of Athens County, focuses on cardio, muscle strengthening and endurance, flexibility and balance. Each type of exercise offers a different health benefit. For example, range of motion and muscular strength and endurance exercises target the muscles that support the joints. Cardiorespiratory endurance exercises strengthen your heart, make your lungs more efficient and give you more stamina. The exercises we practice offer many other benefits including: + Joint flexibility and mobility + Muscle strength + Endurance, stamina and more energy + Bone strength + Function (ability to perform daily activities) + Posture, balance and coordination + Nourishes cartilage + Cardiovascular health and circulation + Regular bowel movements + Sense of well-being, less stress and depression + Weight control and better appearance + Improved quality of sleep So, what are you waiting for? We currently exercise virtually, once per week, on Tuesdays at 10 AM. We welcome you to join us! If you are uncertain about how to connect with us or would like to join us and are unable to due to lack of technology resources, please contact Caitlin at (740) 566- 4680 and she will help connect you to resources to make your participation possible! The Exercises that Keep us Going

A M E S SAG E F RO M CA I T L I N In September we kicked off a program series in collaboration with the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative. This four-part series focuses on a cycle that supports a sustainable and healthy food system. In September we learned about the migration of monarch butterflies and the habitat that supports monarch butterflies locally. In October we learned how to support a healthy habitat for wildlife. We learned about the importance of plant diversity including pollinators, perennials and annuals. If you enjoy nature or learning about our environment or are interested in how ecosystems work, join us for one or both of the final two programs in this series. More information will be provided in our December newsletter on how to connect with us. The final offerings in this series are:

Thursday, December 2 at 2 PM: “Pollinator Habitat for Wildlife”

Thursday, December 30 at 2 PM: “Connecting the Dots: Pollination for a Sustainable Food Supply”

I want to send out a special thank you to the Ohio Pollinator Habitat Initiative who has provided the opportunity to bring nature to us, while also offering the opportunity to learn.

Join us virtually, by phone or computer, on Friday, November 26 from 1-2 PM, for time to listen and sing-a-long to well-known songs. For this program, others will not be able to hear you sing. Songs often bring back memories, which we will have the opportunity to share together.

F O O D F O R T H O U G H T Coping and Grounding Skills with Suzanne Kincaid

After more than a year of weathering a pandemic together, we continue to have shifts in our lives. Feelings may fall on the spectrum of hopeful, then later shift to anxiety driven. This month we will begin a series on coping strategies. The goal of a coping strategy is to help us adapt to change and manage anxiety that may show up unexpectedly in our lives. Our hope is to offer the opportunity to learn about a variety of coping strategies, so that you can decide for yourself which coping strategies work best for you.

First in the series, we will learn some techniques that can be used to decrease stress and help us reset in stressful moments. We will learn about bi-lateral stimulation, breathing techniques and “the container.” Join us

virtually, by phone or computer on Thursday, November 4 from 2-3 PM.

In December we will learn about avoiding news overload and in January we will focus on anchoring our attention during turbulent times.
