Improving Cricket in CornwallThe Cornish Cricket Festival is committed to helping and improving grass roots cricket in Cornwall. We have a number of areas where we are targeting help over the next 12 months and beyond with Festivals in future years. These are as follows:

SponsorshipWe provided £2000 of sponsorship to the Cornish Cricket Board from the 2012 Cornish Cricket Festival, who distributed through a variety of different ways to improve cricket in the county. This money will really help to develop grass roots cricket in the county.

Cornwall Representative TeamsWe are proud to have sponsored the Cornwall Under 15 team’s kit on their 2011 and 2012 tours to the West Indies and will be doing this for the 2013 tour as well. With the Under 13’s going to South Africa and the Under 17’s to Sri Lanka, these are really important to steps to developing young players in the county.

Role ModelsThe Cornish Cricket Festival is organising role models to provide inspiration for our youngsters to take up the sport. With Somerset County Cricket Club being around two hours away for the majority of people in Cornwall, this leaves a lack of local role models. This is where the Cornish Cricket Festival comes into play, by bringing the big name players to Cornwall for the youngsters to see in the flesh and provide inspiration for them to take up and progress in our great game.

Progression into the Professional GameIt is only Jack Richards and Laura Harper from Cornwall who has gone on to play for the England Team. In recent years the likes of Tony Penberthy, Charlie Shreck and Carl Gazzard have progressed into County Cricket, but we are passionate that there should be more Cornish players succeeding in the professional game. We hope that a regular Cornish Cricket Festival will provide inspiration to the youngsters of today. We will be doing all we can to make sure we increase the numbers taking up the game and in the long run, increasing the number of players progressing to the professional game and hopefully following in Richards and Harper’s footsteps.

FixturesWe are delighted to have secured two high profile Clydesdale Bank 40 Over League (CB40) matches for 2013. These are as follows;

Friday 14 June 2013: Unicorns v Somerset

Wednesday 19 June 2013:Netherlands v Nottinghamshire

The Clydesdale Bank 40 OverCompetition The competition features the 18 first class county sides, Netherlands, Scotland and Unicorns, with teams split into three groups. The winner from each group and the best runner up then go into the semi finals, with the final held at Lords. Hamp-shire beat Warwickshire in the 2012 Final.

Unicorns v Somerset The Unicorns team is made up of the ‘best of the rest’ players from around the UK. Players who have just missed out on contracts with the 18 county sides and who have a big point to prove. They are captained by the former Somerset player and current Cornwall All-Rounder, Keith Parsons.

Somerset are one of the UK’s leading one day sides, with many big name players in the side, such as England interna-tionals, Marcus Trescothick, Craig Kieswetter, Nick Compton and Jos Buttler. With Somerset being the nearest professional county to Cornwall, this is the first time that cricket fans will be able to see their team playing a competitive league match in the county and is a match not be missed!

Netherlands v NottinghamshireNetherlands and Nottinghamshire both finished fourth in their respective groups last season. They will be hoping that two more wins from last summer may see them gain qualification for the semi finals. Nottinghamshire are one of England’s strong-est county sides and feature England internationals Graeme Swann, Stuart Broad, Samit Patel, Alex Hales, James Taylor, Ajmal Shahzad and Chris Read as part of their squad.

Netherlands chief executive, Richard Cox, said: “Netherlands cricket has come a long way over the last couple of years, with us beating England at Lords in 2009 in the World Twenty 20 and finishing fourth in the CB40 League last season. “With some superb young players coming through we are hopeful of challenging other teams in our group in 2013. After hearing such great feedback about the 2012 Cornish Cricket Festival we are looking forward to playing one of our ‘home’ games in front of a packed Cornwall crowd with a great atmosphere.”

Over 5000 spectators and a host of regional and national media are expected over the two days of cricket. This makes it an excellent opportunity to associate your brand with one of the South West’s leading events.

Improving Cricket in CornwallThe Cornish Cricket Festival is committed to helping and improving grass roots cricket in Cornwall. We have a number of areas where we are targeting help over the next 12 months and beyond with Festivals in future years. These are as follows:

SponsorshipWe provided £2000 of sponsorship to the Cornish Cricket Board from the 2012 Cornish Cricket Festival, who distributed through a variety of different ways to improve cricket in the county. This money will really help to develop grass roots cricket in the county.

Cornwall Representative TeamsWe are proud to have sponsored the Cornwall Under 15 team’s kit on their 2011 and 2012 tours to the West Indies and will be doing this for the 2013 tour as well. With the Under 13’s going to South Africa and the Under 17’s to Sri Lanka, these are really important to steps to developing young players in the county.

Role ModelsThe Cornish Cricket Festival is organising role models to provide inspiration for our youngsters to take up the sport. With Somerset County Cricket Club being around two hours away for the majority of people in Cornwall, this leaves a lack of local role models. This is where the Cornish Cricket Festival comes into play, by bringing the big name players to Cornwall for the youngsters to see in the flesh and provide inspiration for them to take up and progress in our great game.

Progression into the Professional GameIt is only Jack Richards and Laura Harper from Cornwall who has gone on to play for the England Team. In recent years the likes of Tony Penberthy, Charlie Shreck and Carl Gazzard have progressed into County Cricket, but we are passionate that there should be more Cornish players succeeding in the professional game. We hope that a regular Cornish Cricket Festival will provide inspiration to the youngsters of today. We will be doing all we can to make sure we increase the numbers taking up the game and in the long run, increasing the number of players progressing to the professional game and hopefully following in Richards and Harper’s footsteps.
