1 PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
EMCs Business Continuity Solution Designer (BCSD) is an application specifically designed for EMC GlobalServices personnel whose purpose is to analyze and design new and existing environments for remotereplication. By automating the design and sizing tasks, BCSD will significantly reduce the time taken on Pre-Sales Qualifiers.
BCSD has been driven and conceived based on both GS field requests and EMCs existing remote replicationsizing tool, ET. BCSD is a new application based on Java and utilizes Microsoft SQL Server database technologiesand has been specifically designed to create and manage configurations, import performance data, then analyzeand model that data based on a user proposed configuration. Once modeled, the results are viewable either inthe GUI or by generating reports.
BCSD was created to enable additional features and functionality beyond what ET is capable of, including the fullautomation of Business Continuity Pre-Sales Qualifiers. Current features supported are both source and targetconfigurations, topology drawings, what-if-scenarios, creation of charts and reports without Microsoft Office (MS
Word required for viewing reports) and network overheads based on the customers unique networkconfiguration. A major additional feature is the capability to conduct an automated risk assessment of theproposed solution similar to the SVC qualification process. The Risk Assessment is intended to give accountteams immediate feedback regarding their proposed solution rather than waiting for a review by the SVC BC.
All proposed SRDF/A and RecoverPoint solutions are still required to be submitted to the SVC for trackingpurposes and any solution with a high risk will require further review by the SVC. Both the Solution Advisory andthe Risk Assessment are required documents by the SVC.1.1 Supported Products

1.3 EMC Training for Business Continuity Solution Designer
There are two eLearning BCSD courses available from EMC Education Services and Development athttp://education.emc.com/, one for SRDF and one for RecoverPoint. You can find them by searching thecatalog for BCSD.
A recommended course for Business Continuity is the instructor led Symmetrix Business Continuity Designcourse which has been re-written to include BCSD instead of ET.

3 FIXED IN THIS RELEASE
3.1 AIX parser assumes wrong break for change in timestamps and ignores timestamps in file (BCSD-854)
The HP-UX parser will now ignore incomplete statistic blocks and corrupt records.
3.2 Remove CRR/CDP Required Protection Window maximum (BCSD-871)
Removed maximum from the CRR and CDP Required Protection Window.

4 KNOWN PROBLEMS & LIMITATIONS
4.1 General
4.1.1 Help Buttons are not functional
The Help buttons are placeholders for the future addition of context-sensitive help.
4.1.2 Customer Alias must be unique and not a duplicate
The Customer Alias is a key field within BCSD and so must be unique. If a duplicate Customer Alias isused, the error message is unclear but it must be unique and the duplicate can not be created.
4.2 SRDF Assets
4.2.1 Logical Relationship unused fields Special Feature and Target Local*
The Special Feature and Target Local Used, Type and Group fields are currently unused and will be
enabled in a future release.
4.2.2 Replication Group unused Replication Flag
The Replication Flag field when set to Local Target is currently unused and will be enabled in a futurerelease.
4.2.3 Risk Rules for V-Max are incorrectly labeled DMX-5
The Symmetrix V-Max models are incorrectly referenced as DMX-5 and will be corrected in a futurerelease.
4.3 RecoverPoint Assets
4.3.1 Logical Relationship Advanced Options arent enabled on create
The CDP and CRR Advanced Options buttons are not enabled when the Logical Relationship iscreated. The workaround is to edit the Logical Relationship after creation, then change the AdvancedOptions.
4.4 Reporting
4.4.1 Some Report Tags are not working
The following report tags have issues:
LR_Tgt_Array_RG - No substitution
Project.Proj_Growth_Rate - No substitution

Installing user has no admin rights
No SQL Server 2005 Installed (pre-requisite)
If the SQL Database BCSD_DB already exists and the database is not a N-1 version
The user specifies incorrect database parameters (server name, user, password)
The installer creates an install log in the Temp directory of the installation drive. Any errors are logged inthe file stderr.txt. Please include this file when reporting installation errors.
stderr.txt C:\temp\stderr.txt
Refer to the SQL Express Troubleshooting FAQ for known issues and troubleshooting steps associated withSQL Express and GS Tools applications.
