We are very happy to present our Annual Report on Commerce placements

from the Business Career Centre at Queen’s School of Business. This year,

we have restructured our report to provide more insights into the make-up

of our program and to highlight the many exceptional characteristics of the

student body and our graduating profile. The report is intended to be a

resource for prospective students, recruiters and alumni.

The Queen’s Commerce program is a four year program that has long been viewed as

Canada’s most prestigious undergraduate business program. Our graduates receive an

outstanding integrated business education and acquire the leadership, team and

communications skills that are critical in today’s business world. It is one of the most

highly sought-after undergraduate programs in the country, and has among the

highest entrance standards anywhere. It is a highly selective program that attracts

bright, motivated and high-achieving students from across Canada and around the

world - academically strong, well-rounded young people with a breadth of extra-

curricular and community service experience.

Queen’s Commerce graduates are in great demand, and the program has attracted top

recruiters for decades. As you will see from the pages of this report, last year was no

exception. We take great pride in the quality of our graduates and in meeting the

needs of our employer community.

The Program

Queen’s Commerce is Canada’s most respected undergraduate business program. Founded in 1919, the program has a rich

tradition of innovation and academic excellence. It is an experience

like no other, attracting the best and the brightest students from

across Canada and around the world. Small class sizes help build a

close and highly productive network among students and faculty.

The first two years of the program are comprised of compulsory courses that provide a

broad exposure to all aspects of business. In years three and four, students have the

opportunity to choose electives in their area of specialization. These areas include:

Accounting Finance Marketing

Human Resources International Business New Venture

Industrial Relations Information Systems Operations Management

In addition to the required courses and Commerce electives, students are also required to

complete elective courses in the Faculty of Arts & Science, in order to broaden their perspective.

From music to psychology to languages, the options are practically endless.

Leadership and Professional Development provides numerous opportunities to

develop and strengthen the personal skills required for success – from time-managementto team building, to career choice and job search.

Integrated Communications builds the written and verbal communication skills that

are vitally important in the academic and business worlds.

Certificate in Corporate Social Responsibility is the first undergraduate program of

its kind, offering an exciting experience-based integrated exposure to the field of CSR.

“In our profession, it’s no secret that Queen’s Commerce graduates are at the top of our list.

To an extent this likely reflects the quality of the students who are originally attracted to the

Program. Having said that, we follow many of these students from their first year through totheir fourth, and we really do see the impact of an exceptional program at Queen’s.”

International Opportunities

Queen’s School of Business has developed an extensive and elite network of

international business school exchange partners that literally spans the globe.

Approximately two-thirds of our Commerce students undertake an international

exchange. We believe that this international exposure is extremely important in

today’s global economy and that it represents a significant differentiator for our
