Employers and Industry are already demanding Smart multi-discipline skills in technologies such as 3D printing.

The same technologies used to create modern products are now accessible to students and schools. 3D printers are more affordable than ever before and are being adopted by businesses across the world. Smart sensors and electronics are now so cheap you find them in everything from your washing machine to your Smartphone.

What does this mean for students and your school?

It means students can learn skills that are directly relevant for exciting new careers and opportunities.

There is an increased emphasis on STEM subjects together with added pressure from national curriculums worldwide to deliver skills which are relevant to modern business.

How can BCA help?

BCA works with national bodies, industries, teachers and students to create exciting and engaging courses and learning resources that reflect these changes in the real world.

From 3D Printed fashion to Smart Product Design; BCA provides modern industry relevant curriculums covering STEM, design innovation, and technology subjects. We bring powerful real world ideas and practice directly into the classroom.

Our range of full courses offer schools a way to deliver new design and technology subjects.

Our curriculums are accredited and can lead to recognised qualifications, further study or entry into a job.

Full teacher training, support and lesson plan resources are provided to ensure you are guided and confident in teaching.

InternationalOur qualifications are internationally recognised and accepted. Together with our awarding partners, we have centres in the UK and internationally that can support our curriculum and qualification.

Our Qualifications Explained

QCF Awards and Certificates: Qualifications that use the QCF rules are made up of units. This provides flexible ways to get a qualification. Each unit has a credit value which tells you how many credits are awarded when a unit is completed. The credit value also gives an indication of how long it will normally take you to prepare for a unit or qualification. One credit will usually take you 10 hours of learning.

Higher Nationals (HNC and HND): This is a practical higher education qualification which can be used to gain entry into universities or direct entry to apprenticeship and industry; they are highly valued by employers.

A free scheme of works mapping BCA courses to the national curriculum and qualification criteria is available. Please email, call or write to us to request your copy.

Our range of education kits give students and teachers an hands-on introduction into teaching and learning new Smart subject areas.

We provide project based kits which are engaging, vocational and packed with learning outcomes to give the students a rapid introduction into Smart technologies. It is an alternative route into concepts like design or coding for students who respond well to learning through physically making and testing.

Our kits are self guided for students. However, the kits are designed to be flexible and can become the starting point to build new lesson plans and learning outcomes.

Our range of kits include:

Laser Cutting with Smart ElectronicsStudents will experience how to combine laser cutting and electronics in a unique product such as our ‘Trooper Robot’ or ‘Comms Synth’.

Students will learn how to code in order to control and apply basic principles of physics, motion and maths to create a navigation route for a Trooper, or unique sounds and frequencies for a Synthesizer.

Student learning outcomes: Micro-controller, coding, laser cutting, 2D, assemblies, group activity, vectors, engineering principles, physics, maths and design.

3D Printing, Smart Electronics and Laser CuttingBCA offer a unique kit which combines all 3 technologies. Students will learn to make a Smart Product which can sense the environment and makes changes to adapt.

One of the projects your students can build is a Smart Green House that can sense light, temperature and other weather conditions, and react through controlling outputs like motors to open or close windows and activate watering systems.

Student learning outcomes: Smart electronics, coding, laser cutting, 3D printing, assemblies, group activity, environmental sensing and control, integrated project work.

STEM KITSBCA has created unique education kits which combine core subject areas with product design and innovation.

BCA is working with Sir Thomas Fremantle School (STFS) on a 3 year Smart Product Design partnership.

From staff training to course and curriculum development, BCA is working with STFS to kickstart and maintain a high level of engagement with design, technology and ICT across a number of subject areas.

Teachers and students learn and apply Smart technologies in art, design and technology, computing, physics and mathematics to ensure a cross-curricular and integrated approach to technology across the school.

All students start on a foundation programme where they are introduced to a range of Smart technologies through structured projects, before progressing onto full courses in Smart Product Design.

Outside of the classroom, BCA help plan industry tours, events and work placements for students to see real world applications of the technologies they use in school.

Students can also explore and extend their own personal interests and projects at a weekly Technology Enrichment Club.
