IntroductionAltom, in collaboration with Kaner, Fiedler & Associates, LLC, is offering a new generation of public BBST® courses. We realized that, as testers, we need to keep the learning process fueled. Afterexperiencing the benefits of the BBST courses as students and instructors, we decided to getinvolved to a deeper level.

Courses PresentationThe course includes video lectures, quizzes, homework of various kinds, and a final exam. All ofthe homework, and the exam, are reviewed by instructors, and individual or classwide feedbackis provided.

We have strict deadlines in the course to keep you on track and synchronized with yourclassmates so feedback from peers is available for everyone. Each week has two deadlines:

Wednesday night at midnight and Saturday at midnight.NoNot in our time zone? That’s no problem at all. Your Canvas classroom calendar will convert the time zones for you.

All the BBST course materials are created and improved by Cem Kaner. These courses are part ofa series, the trilogy beginning with BBST Foundations, continuing with BBST Bug Advocacy and ending with BBST Test Design.

BBST FoundationsOrganized around four critical challenges in software testing:

What the mission of a testing effort is and how the project strategy helps achievethat mission.

How a tester can determine whether or not the program has passed a test.

What the key challenges in developing and using software metrics are.

How we can measure the amount of testing that has been done and estimate the amountof testing that remains. Also, how we can decide when to stop testing.

BBST Bug AdvocacyHelps develop skills in effective bug reporting. Some of these skills are primarily technical, suchas troubleshooting failures and isolating failureproducing configurations.

However, many bugs are left unfixed because they were not presented persuasively. The courseapplies lessons from sales, psychology and law to help you understand how to present yourreports more credibly and more persuasively and how to assess the quality of troubleshootingand communication of reports written by your staff or colleagues.

BBST Test DesignOur courses teach contextdriven testing. Rather than relying on a few “best practices”, weencourage you to adopt the approaches and techniques which are applicable to your project. To do this, you need to know a variety of techniques, with insight into their comparative strengths and blind spots.

Surveying about 75 testing techniques, we emphasize six (function testing and testing tours;risk-based testing; scenario testing; specbased testing; domain testing; and combinatorial testing). This lThis lays a solid foundation for contextappropriate test planning.
