a woman forgotten by history, a love so hidden it might never have existed: this is the story of Nelly Ternan’s secret love affair with charles Dickens.

nelly, a happily married mother and school teacher, is haunted by her past. her memories, provoked by remorse and guilt, take us back in time to follow the story of her relationship with Charles Dickens with whom she discovered an exciting but fragile complicity.

Dickens – famous, controlling and emotionally isolated within his success – falls for nelly, who comes from a family of actors. The theatre is a vital arena for Dickens – a brilliant amateur actor – a man more emotionally coherent in his work, or on stage, than in life. as nelly becomes the focus of Dickens’ passion and his muse, for both of them secrecy is the price, and for nelly a life of “invisibility”.

A Long Way Down is an irreverent, darkly comic and life-affirming film adapted from the best-selling novel by author Nick hornby.

For disgraced Tv presenter Martin Sharp, the answer’s pretty simple: he has, in his own words, “pissed his life away”. on new year’s eve he’s going to end it all …but not, as it happens, alone. Because first single-mum Maureen, then eighteen-year-old Jess, and finally American musician-turned-pizza boy JJ, crash Martin’s private party. They’ve stolen his idea - but brought their own reasons.

yet it’s hard to jump when you’ve got an audience queuing impatiently behind you. A few slices of cold pizza later and these four strangers are suddenly friends. But is their unlikely friendship a good enough reason to carry on living?

Inspired by true events, Saving Mr. Banks is the extraordinary, untold story of how Disney’s classic Mary Poppins made it to the screen—and the testy relationship that the legendary Walt Disney had with author p.L. Travers that almost derailed it.

Two-time Academy Award®–winner emma Thompson and fellow double academy award®-winner Tom Hanks topline Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks, inspired by the extraordinary, untold backstory of how Disney’s classic Mary Poppins made it to the screen. When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favourite book, Mary Poppins by P.L. Travers, he made them a promise—one that he didn’t realise would take twenty years to keep. In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has absolutely no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.

For those two short weeks in 1961, Walt Disney pulls out all the stops. armed with imaginative storyboards and chirpy songs from the talented Sherman brothers, Walt launches an all-out onslaught on P.L. Travers, but the prickly author doesn’t budge. he soon begins to watch helplessly as Travers becomes increasingly immovable and the rights begin to move further away from his grasp. It is only when he reaches into his own childhood that Walt discovers the truth about the ghosts that haunt her, and together they set Mary Poppins free to ultimately make one of the most endearing films in cinematic history.
