• Ingest – Covers the copying an asset and its metadata from an external device into the Work in Progress library – transforming the asset format as appropriate.
• Log Assets – Covers the recording of the metadata related to an asset at its capture and/or at its ingest into the Work in Progress library.
• Local Search – Covers searching for an asset within the Work in Progress library, viewing the search results and browsing or viewing the asset and/or its metadata.
• Reviewing – Covers the process of reviewing an asset for editorial approval including over the network.
• Sync Pulls/Storyboarding – Covers the organisation of assets into storyboards and the creation of rough-cut edits up to the point of submission to a craft editor.
• Media Management – Covers the library-type functionality of the system, which includes: organising the physical assets; storing the assets in an appropriate repository structure; moving the assets within and between repositories; managing the asset life-cycle from ingest to deletion.

• Digitisation of Existing Archive Materials – Creating digital files, capable of being transferred and accessed online, from legacy archive content such as tape. Can be driven by editorial requirements, on-demand requests or by preservation priorities.
• Cataloguing – Metadata enhancements for library purposes. • Archive Submission – Handling the receipt and/or registration of material to the
archive from many sources including WIP libraries, in conformance with agreed retention and selection policies.
• Repository Management – Assigning roles and privileges to users to support archive access, use and management.
• Search, View and Retrieve – Ability to search and view archive contents from BBC desktop in proxy quality.

• Asset Conversion – Covers functionality and process of the conversion of an asset or group of assets into an appropriate format. This will also include the conversion of the metadata into an appropriate format for its destination.
• Content Management – Covers the grouping or selection of assets according to a predefined manifest or schedule for delivery to a target system or user.
• Playout – Covers the delivery of the package according to a timetable defined in the schedule to a target system which would be responsible for the playout or publication.

• Tapeless Ingest – Covers the functionality to ‘load’ an asset from a tapeless device to a system into a digital, file-based format.
• Point of Capture Metadata Entry – Covers the functionality to capture metadata at capture either automatically (e.g. GPS location data) or through manual operation.

• Integration with Work in Progress – Allows content to be transferred between Work in Progress and Craft Edit environments in file format removing the need for ingesting/outgesting to tape.
• Editing – Covers the functionality to perform the creative and more detailed editing to connect individual rushes together adding transitions and other effects.
• Finishing – Covers the functionality to finalise an asset ready for publishing. This can include final edits for titles, adjustments to audio and video levels, addition of subtitling or signing.
Enabler 6 – Share • Sharing with Indies / 3rd Parties – Facilitates file based transfer of assets and asset information between BBC and external repositories and organisations.
• User generated content – Provides a mechanism for viewers, listeners and users to submit their own content to the BBC.

2.5 Outline of Process Scope
The enablers will drive change across the production process, or in other words the asset lifecycle, having an impact on the way productions are commissioned, produced and published and how assets are managed and exploited.
Therefore the DMI scope can also be understood within the BBC’s standard architecture modelling approach as impacting the activity groups below.
These activity groups are defined as technology and organisation agnostic and as such provide a useful framework for designing the DMI business change without being constrained by existing departmental and system boundaries.
