The Inspiration Sunday School Class is still accepting donations to help offset medical expenses and travel costs for Jason Booth. Jason was diagnosed with brain cancer in April of 2017. Please make checks payable to INSPIRATION SUNDAY SCHOOL

CLASS. If you have any questions please contact Mary Scott Lincoln at 229-506-2778.

Well this year Easter fell on April Fool’s Day. This happened last in 1956. It seems like an odd day to celebrate Easter and I know there were likely mixed emotions for some people. I know that I have always loved the April Fool’s jokes over the years. One of my favorite was from the BBC back in 1957. It was called Spaghetti-Harvest in Tincino, look it up on YouTube if you dare.

So many other great April Fool’s Day hoaxes and jokes really feed into my love to laugh and enjoyment of comedy. One Christian comedian/pastor said, “God has a sense of humor just look at Giraffes, Hippos, or the Kardashians!?” I believe for sure God enjoys laughter. Proverbs 15:13 tells us, “A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.” Ecclesiastes 3:4 “A time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance.”

Yet, the Resurrection is no laughing matter. Fortunately, Easter is not set on April 1st every year. In case you were wondering, Easter is always on the 1st Sunday following the first full moon of the Spring Equinox. The date can vary by almost 6 weeks. Maybe, if you are not a watcher of the heavens, you can just look at a calendar and it will tell you, that is much easier.

When we think of the Resurrection falling on April Fool’s day however, it may be good for us to remember that the joke was on those who thought Jesus was dead. They thought they could go back to their regular life. They didn’t understand that Jesus would reign forever.

In this post Easter time, let us remember that just because Easter is over, that does not mean that we can go back to our regular scheduled lives. Jesus’ resurrection impacts us and changes our lives forever. If it doesn’t, then we need to stop and ask ourselves, if we have really understood the impact of it on our salvation. If not, the joke is on us because it is not we who reign but Christ who reigns forever.

Thanks be to the resurrected Christ.

Our Easter 10:40 service this past Sunday was awesome! I mean it was probably the most fun I’ve had in a while. Sometimes elements just come together in a way that you can’t explain in totality. That’s why we have words like awesome and incredible and amazing. Quite often these words are used to describe what we can’t quite put our finger on. We all know what they mean, but they are subjective to each person. When we can use these words in the truest sense I would say these are our Mountain

Top experiences. There are big mountains and small mountains. Some you stay on a while and others you may

be there for a brief moment. I can’t help but think of Moses on Mount Sinai with God; so many times he was called by God to go up the mountain. What an amazing and awesome experience! Scripture says (Ex. 19) that God would descend on the mountain like fire and a huge cloud of smoke covered the mountain. There would be lightning and thunder and the entire mountain would shake. It says Moses would talk and God would thunder His reply. How mind blowing!! What an experience. It’s amazing to think that the people could see that and still doubt the one true God. Here’s the deal though, after all that Moses would experience with God on top of the mountain, God sent Moses back down the mountain with something to do each time with or for his people. God Gave Moses mountain top experiences not so he could feel all warm and fuzzy, but because he needed Moses to use that experience to speak life into his people. He needed Moses to shepherd his people. That is what all Christians are called to, not just pastors and Sunday school teachers. When you step out to follow Christ, God immediately puts you in a place of shepherding the people around you. Yes, when you do this well, a by product is warm fuzzy feelings but these are bonuses not the end game. So remember, any time you find yourself about to use a word like awesome, incredible or amazing enjoy the moment. Then ask yourself “How can I use this experience to help the people around me better follow Christ?”

Brooks Mooneyham, Contemporary Worship Pastor

Our Easter offering will help support our local Missions again this year. Please make your check payable to PAUMC and mark Easter Offering in the memo line. Offerings may be dropped in the offering plate during church, mailed to the church, or taken to the church office.
