Policy Statement

1. Scholarships will be awarded to young people who demonstrate potential for a commitment to the Vision and Mission of Bayview College.

2. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of a range of criteria that take into account the merit and need of eligible students.

3. Scholarships will be awarded annually for students entering Year 7 for up to four years – dependant upon an annual review of performance. Students may reapply in Year 10 for VCE/VCAL Scholarships. Scholarships will cover 50% of tuition fees.

4. Students awarded scholarships will be bound by the same rights and responsibilities as all students at Bayview College.

Criteria for Awarding Scholarships Bayview College fosters the expectation that each student will become the best person he or she can be. In making its decision the Scholarship Selection Committee will consider the following criteria: Academic Excellence • Evidence of academic excellence in any of the core subject areas

Creative, Visual & Performing Arts Evidence of excellence in any of the following: • Art/Design • Drama • Music • Design & Technology

Physical Education, Sport and Outdoor Education Evidence of excellence in any of the following: • Physical Education • Sport • Outdoor Education

School & Community Involvement Evidence of excellence in any of the following: • Involvement in Primary School and Local Community • Evidence of ongoing participation in extra curricular activities and engagement with

the local and wider community All applicants will be required to sit a written academic test. Applicants in the Arts and Sporting arena will also be required to attend an audition or workshop, based on their specialised area (at a date to be determined) at Bayview College. Parents/applicants will be notified of date and location by mail or phone. Each application needs to be accompanied by the following:

1. Applicant’s School Report for the end of the previous academic year & latest NAPLAN results.

2. Names and addresses of 2 referees who can be contacted to validate and support the application. These could include the school principal or teacher, community leader, church minister, sporting coach or club leader.

3. Portfolio of achievements, certificates/examples of your work in your specialised area. Conditions of Acceptance Students who accept a scholarship will agree to be committed to their personal educational progress consistent with the Bayview College Vision and Mission Statement and take personal responsibility to accept and live our standards and expectations.

Privacy Policy Bayview College values and respects your privacy. Furthermore the College is committed to ensuring that it complies at all times with its obligations contained in the Commonwealth Privacy Act 1988. The Privacy Principles set out in the Act determine how information is:

• Collected, • Used, • Kept and secured and, • Disclosed to others.

In applying for this scholarship you will be providing Bayview College with personal information. The following is our policy under the Privacy Act in applying the National Privacy Principles:

1. If you provide us with personal information, for example, your name and address or other information you consider relevant, we will collect the information in order to assess the scholarship application. Please note: in some cases where the College requests personal information and that information is not obtained this may prejudice your application.

2. You acknowledge and accept that the college may use this information for keeping

you informed about matters related to schooling in general and Bayview College in particular, through correspondence, newsletters and magazines.

3. You acknowledge and accept that we may store this information for 12 months from

the advertised date of closure of scholarship applications. 4. You may seek access to your personal information that we hold about you if your

application for scholarship is unsuccessful. However there will be occasions when access may be denied. Such occasions would include where access would have an unreasonable impact on the privacy of others.

5. We will not disclose this information to a third party without your specific consent. 6. If you provide us with the personal information of others (such as referee names and

contact details), we encourage you to inform them that you are disclosing that information to the College and why, that they can access that information if they wish, that the School does not disclose the information to third parties and that we may store their information for 12 months from the closing date for applications.

7. If you have any concerns about our privacy policy or the way the College is dealing
