Ameresco Advantage for NYS Schools

• Our K-12 Team is very deliberate in planning a project. Time spent in development and design eliminates problems and energy savings shortfalls in the future

• Our K-12 Team is very profound in its approach to Energy Efficiency Measures. This dedication has earned the respect of NYSERDA, NYPA, LIPA and SED over the course of very long relationships

• Our K-12 Team members co-authored the original NYSERDA guide to Energy P f C t ti f N Y k St tPerformance Contracting for New York State

• Our K-12 Team has never had a project rejected by SED in 25 years of performing EPC for NYSperforming EPC for NYS

• Our K-12 Team has never had a project deteriorate into non-performance status in 30 years of implementing EPC nationwide

Building Management Systems

• Existing control points will be integrated into a seamless,

Improvement Highlights:

integrated into a seamless, open, web based system

• A Tridium based front end will provide easy access to a LONprovide easy access to a LON based control system

• 1,457 new point of control will be combined with 688 existing gcontrol points

• All major pieces of heating and ventilation equipment The new and expanded building controls system willq pthroughout the District will be included for control and system monitoring including general exhaust fans

The new and expanded building controls system will extend well beyond the boiler rooms to all major pieces

of HVAC equipment.

Lighting System Improvements

I t Hi hli ht

• Overall nearly 4,000 lighting fixtures will be rebuilt

Improvement Highlights:

fixtures will be rebuilt, replaced or upgraded

• About 800 new fixtures including new LED fixturesincluding new LED fixtures and induction fixtures will be installed

• 128 new Gymnasium lighting128 new Gymnasium lighting fixtures will be installed using high efficiency fluorescents instead of slow

t ti Hi h I t itstarting High Intensity Discharge units

• Recessed can-type fixtures will be replaced by LED units

Upgrading each fixture in the District with high efficiency fluorescent and LED alternatives will save substantial energy

8Bayport Blue Point UFSD - February 1, 2011

will be replaced by LED units

Unit Ventilator Replacements

Improvement Highlights:

• 40 classroom unit ventilators will be installed

• 23 at Sylvan Avenue, 7 at Blue Point Elementary

• In addition 10 new unitIn addition, 10 new unit ventilators will replace existing radiators at Blue Point Elementary

• Each of the units have exceeded their useful life, most are original to the

buildings

• Each unit will be digitally controlled by the new

district-wide building management system

Window Replacements

Improvement Highlights:

• Selected single glazed windows will be replaced at the High p gSchool, Middle School and the Sylvan Avenue Elementary

• These units will be replaced with commercial grade, architectural, thermally efficient windows

•Front windows at the Sylvan Avenue Elementary School will

be replaced with thermally efficient units

• Approximately 3,300 square feet of single glazed aluminum framed window units will be replacedreplaced

• Low "E" coatings will be included between the glazing's to further improve the thermal

10Bayport Blue Point UFSD - February 1, 2011 10

to further improve the thermal efficiency

Lighting Controls

• Many lighting fixtures throughout the District were

Improvement Highlights:

gfound not to have automatic control functions

• Approximately 1,100 new pp y ,occupancy control sensors will be installed in classrooms or offices adding control to over 2 600 light fixtures2,600 light fixtures

• Sensors that actually "listen" for activity as well as "look" for motion will be installedmotion will be installed

• New Gym fixtures will have integrated motion sensors

Occupancy sensors in gyms will greatly reduce energy use when gyms are not in use, partially or fully.

11Bayport Blue Point UFSD - February 1, 2011

• 294 Day Light harvesting sensors will be also installed

11

Air Handling Unit Replacements

• 5 heating and ventilation units will be replaced at the High

Improvement Highlights:

will be replaced at the High School

• These units are used for the gymnasium cafeteria andgymnasium, cafeteria and wrestling room

• Improved heating and ventilation will result by the replacementwill result by the replacement

• The new units will provide for greater energy efficiency

• U it ill b di t di it l t l Five air handling units at the High School will be replaced with new, more efficient units in this measure.

• Units will be direct digital control integrated into the new building control system

12Bayport Blue Point UFSD - February 1, 2011

Solar Photovoltaic System

Improvement Highlights:

• One 10,000 watt Solar photovoltaic unit will bephotovoltaic unit will be installed at the Bayport Blue Point High School

• Systems are LIPA approvedSystems are LIPA approved and eligible for utility incentives

• Interactive Web capabilities

Photovoltaic solar panels will be installed at High School

te act e eb capab t eswill be available for classroom use allowing students to view the system’s contribution to the District’scontribution to the District’s energy requirements on a real-time basis

HVAC Return Installation

Improvement Highlights:

• Return-air duct work will be installed in the District sta ed t e st ctadministration offices

• This will improve the effectiveness of the existing split g psystem air handler

• Currently the return air is circulated through the attic gspace

• This space experiences extreme temperatures in the summer and Sprinklers are being used to cool the roof of the

d i i t ti b ildithe winter

• The air handler cannot maintain comfortable space temperatures

administration building

during these periods

Boiler Replacements

• One small sectional steam boiler will be installed at Blue Point

Improvement Highlights:

Elementary

• Currently, a large building boiler must be used to maintain temperatures in modular wing during shoulder periods

• Remaining sections of building are not susceptible shoulder period temperature swings

• Hot water could be provided for only that area in need

A shoulder-season boiler for the Blue Point Elementary School

Vestibule Installation

Improvement Highlights:

• The main entryway to the Middle School enters into the dd e Sc oo e te s to t emain lobby

• Outside air rushes in when anyone enters the existing y gdoors

• The new vestibule will significantly limit the air g yinfiltration especially during high traffic periods

• Existing building overhang will become the top of the vestibule

• All door hardware and color

The main entranceway at the Middle School will receive a vestibule to reduce air infiltration.
