Lesson: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells 6.12AB

The student is expected to understand that all organisms are composed of one

or more cells AND recognize that the presence of a nucleus determines

whether a cell is prokaryotic or eukaryotic.

All living organisms are classified into groups using the similarities and

differences of their internal and external characteristics, including the most

basic structure of living organisms, the cell. These characteristics allow

organisms to interact with components of their ecosystem.

HOMEWORK: Students will complete homework activities, picture

vocabulary from stem scope on the above standard. Practice worksheets on the

above standard. Please encourage your child to work on learning activities

from stem scope.

Wednesday (A day) and Thursday (B day)

Lesson: Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Cells 6.12AB

Students will complete explore learning activities using Gizmos.

Students will understand that all cells are either eukaryotic or prokaryotic.

Similarities and differences can be identified in these two types of cells.

Eukaryotic cells can be recognized by the presence of a membrane enclosed

organelle called a nucleus as well as other membrane bound organelles. The

nucleus in eukaryotic cells contains DNA, or genetic information. Prokaryotic

cells also contain DNA but do not contain a nucleus. Prokaryotic do not have a

physical boundary within the cell that encloses DNA.

HOMEWORK: Practice worksheets on above standard.
