The combustion is regulated by athermostatically-controlled induced draft fanwhich sucks pre-heated air into the boiler'sceramic flame tunnel. Here, unusually efficientcombustion takes place. The SOLO INNOVAonly consumes a small amount of fuel incomparison with normal boilers.

SOLO INNOVA is constructed for highlyefficient combustion of dry firewood (forestfirewood) with a moisture content of 15-25%.On the basis of solid experience and testingand correct operation, the boiler will live up tothe most severe demands regarding efficientand environmentally friendly combustion ofwood.

A large combustion chamber and big doorsmakes operation easy, and the "warm sides"(non-water-cooled) make SOLO INNOVAmore tolerant towards variations in the fuelquality. The best combustion and highestoutput are obtained by using dry firewood(approx. 20% moisture), sawn into lengthswhich suit the boiler's combustion chamber(1/3 metre or % metre) and split to a thicknessof 10-15 centimetres.

SOLO INNOVA must be installed with aheat storage tankCorrect air supply (3.5-4 m3/kg of firewood) isa condition for environmentally friendlycombustion without any inconvenient smoke.SOLO INNOVA is therefore equipped with athermostat-controlled induced draft fan whichsucks the necessary air into the combustionchamber and removes the cooled flue gases.

Since, during part of the year, the boiler'soutput is greater than the requirement of thehouse, SOLO INNOVA must always beinstalled with a suitable storage tank which canstore at least the energy in a singlecombustion chamber fill-up, and which hassufficient capacity to keep the house warmduring the night. SOLO INNOVA LC, withLambda control, does not need such a bigstorage tank. (See our recommendation in thetechnical data).

Furthermore, the advantages with storagetanks are as follows:

• Most efficient combustion (lessconsumption of fuel),

• better environmental protectionand no problems with soot in theboiler and chimney (cleanercombustion),

• longer lifetime for the boiler (canalways get rid of the heat),

• greater operational comfort.

This is how SOLO INNOVA is to beoperatedFilling up with fuel must only take place whenthe storage tank temperature is below 45°C,and the tanks can receive heat. It is importantnot to fill up the boiler with more fuel thanprecisely necessary to bring up the boiler

and the storage tanks up in temperature (max.approx. 90°C). It is important for the boiler'slifetime and the combustion quality that the fancan run without stopping until there is onlycharcoal left in the combustion chamber. Atoutdoor temperatures exceeding approx. 0°C,the combustion chamber must only be partiallyfilled (e.g. 50% at +14°C), unless an extrastorage tank is fitted which can accumulate theheat produced by the boiler.

The forest as an energy sourceSOLO INNOVA is the ideal choice for userswho want to cover more or less the whole oftheir heating consumption by using wood, andwho want to protect the environment (nature).Firewood is a modern, environmentally friendlyfuel (stored solar energy), which is C02-neutralsince the CO2 which is formed duringcombustion is consumed/transformed whennew trees grow up. Furthermore, heating withfirewood is economic, depending on how youpurchase it, but heating with firewood is notjust a matter of economy - it is a life style. Thefirewood must be prepared, sawn andchopped to the right dimensions (see technicaldata).

Wood combustion can be divided into threestages:

1. During heating in the first stage,the moisture content of the woodevaporates, and the wood is driedout.

2. During the second stage afterdrying out, the temperature risesfurther and various energy-rich,combustible gases are driven outof the firewood. During mixture witha suitable quantity of pre-heated,secondary air, the gases are burntoff under turbulence and a goodtemperature in the ceramic flametunnel. As the gas bumscompletely without being cooled, acompletely optimal combustion ofthe volatile substances in the woodis achieved and these substancescomprise 80% of the calorificvalue.

3. The third phase is the burning outphase, during which the remainingcharcoal is burnt out.

Hardwoods (eg.beech and birch) contain thehighest calorific value per cubic metre andsoftwoods (eg. pine and spruce) contain least.Amongst other things, this means that if you fillup the combustion chamber with coniferouswood this will burn out more quickly, and it willbe necessary to fill up more often than with, forexample, beech wood.

Throughout 70 years BAXI (formerly HS-TARM) - with its approximately 200 employees- has been a pioneer around the developmentand production of central heating boilers.

A position has been built up which placesBAXI as being Denmark's biggest and leadingproducer of central heating systems forheating up private dwellings as well assupplying them with hot water.

The basis for BAXI's products is strictrequirements for both materials as well as thetechnical production quality.It has always been a part of the company'sobjective that the products from BAXI shouldsatisfy the users' requirements regarding both

the functional quality and design. Nowadays,BAXI carries out quality control in accordancewith DS/EN ISO-9001, which is an extensive,internationally recognized standard for qualitycontrol systems.

Reliability of operation, unique firing economyand, not least, consideration of theenvironment are factors which have beeninstrumental in placing BAXI as aninternationally recognized supplier of centralheating boilers.BAXI's significant position must also be viewedin the light of a constant product development,in which no principles are ever compromised -neither with the solid quality and high output -nor with the consistent, timeless design./

Powerful insulationThe whole of the casing and the bottom ofthe boiler are insulated with a 75 mm layerof mineral fibre. There is double insulationat the top. This powerful insulationcontributes the high efficiency and thussaves fuel.

Easily accessible coverfor cleaning the fire tubes.

Turbo-platesin the firetubes ensuregood cooling ofthe flue gas sothat the heat iseffectivelytransferred tothe boilerwater.

Effective air distribution gives optimalcombustion

Both the primary and the secondary air are ledvia the air channel into the combustionchamber at precisely the speed which gives asmooth combustion.

The primary air is led in at an optimal distancefrom the flame tunnel. The secondary air is ledfurther, through the ceramic combustiontunnel, where it is heated and distributedthrough the two channels and the air jets, afterwhich it is blown at great speed directly intothe flame in order to complete the combustion.

Thermostat-controlled induced draft fanensures a suitable amount of air forcombustion and creates a partial vacuum inthe combustion chamber. When the wood hasburnt out, the fan and the pump areautomatically stopped by the built-in minimumthermostat, which registers the temperature inthe flue gas. By this means, the heat stored inthe storage tank is exploited best. Theconstruction makes very small demands onthe flue draft. The fan is easy to remove whencleaning the impeller.

Large, reversibledoorsmake it easy tooperate and adjustthe boiler in theroom where it isplaced. By means ofthe suction channelover the combustionchamber, the fanminimizes possibleemission of smokein the boiler roomwhen filling up withfuel.

Supplyingcombustion airPrimary andsecondary air can beregulatedindependently.

Connecting the heat storage tankThe boiler's large fuel hopper provideshigh operational comfort. Refueling isadjusted so that the fuel is preciselyburnt out when the storage tank hasreached its maximum temperature(approx. 90°C).

In order to ensure problem-free transportfrom the factory to the user, SOLO INNOVAis well packed.

The built-in induced draft fan ensures apartial vacuum in the combustion chamberand correct supply of air for the combustion.The fan is thermostatically-controlled and isin operation in accordance with the heatrequirement. When filling up with fuel, thefan is running and will extract any smoke sothat this does not enter into the boiler room.

Glowing heart: This is what the combustionchamber in SOLO INNOVA looks like whenthe combustion is taking place at approx.1,000°C. This correct temperature givesoptimal exploitation of the fuel at a highefficiency and a low environmental impact..The combustion, which for all intents andpurposes is complete, means that the smokeis almost invisible.

Ceramic stones: The three-part ceramicstones at the bottom of the boiler form theheart of HS SOLO INNOVA. Here, thecomplete and environmentally friendlycombustion takes place. The ceramic stonesgive a longer lifetime for the boiler and a farhigher combustion temperature than intraditional solid fuel boilers.

Boiler control on SOLO INNOVA STD(standard)Operating the boiler takes place from thefront. The panel contains the following, boilerthermometer, operating thermostat °C,minimum thermostat, safety thermostat, re-coupling of safety thermostat and minimumthermostat, cut-outs for ventilator and pumpas well as door magnet. The panel hasspace for automatic shunt control, DanfossECL 3310 (see under storage tanks).

SOLO INNOVA is equipped with big, doubledoors, which can be opened to the right orleft. This ensures low heat radiation losses,high operating comfort and attractive design.Above the door, it is possible to see thechannel for extracting smoke when filling upwith fuel, and the valves for adjustingprimary and secondary air are placed belowthe door.

Special model with Lambda control (oxygencontrol). Type SOLO INNOVA LC providesthe ultimately best control. Special modelwith Lambda control (oxygen control). TypeSOLO INNOVA LC provides the ultimatecontrol

On the special model with Lambda-control,the air valves for primary and secondary airare regulated by means of electrical motors,so that the consumption is perfect at allstages.

Copper coil SOLO INNOVA can besupplied with a copper coil for domestic hotwater.

BAXI markets suitable heat storage tanks(500 and 750 litres), with powerful, freon-free, PUR foam insulation. The tanks aresupplied with or without built-in domestic hotwater tanks and can be connected asrequired.

Furthermore, types 500-B and 750-B areequipped with 2" sockets for electricalheating elements as a back-up. Since a highdegree of stratification of the heat in thestorage tank is desirable with regard toexploitation of the energy, it is recommendedthat a shunt valve with weathercompensation should be fitted (Danfoss ECL3310).

Recommended installation example(without oxygen control)SOLO INNOVA STD connected to BAXIheat storage tank with built-in hot watersupply and space for electrical heatingelements.The thermostat valve ensures a high boiler

temperature when filling up the tanks. Thisinstallation proposal is solely calculated as anon-binding guideline for the fitter. BAXI A/Scannot thus be made responsible fordeficiencies or any loss on the basis of thisinstallation proposal. (Other installationexamples can be obtained from BAXI.)

Type SOLO INNOVA LC withadvanced oxygen control

SOLO INNOVA LC with Lambda Control(oxygen control) is the "High-Tech" modelwith ultimate combustion control. Bymeans of an oxygen-sensor, LambdaControl continually registers thecomposition of the flue gas and tworegistering motors continually regulate theprimary and secondary air. By means ofthis active regulation of the combustionair, the quality of the combustion is keptat an optimal level throughout all thecombustion stages.Lambda Control also guides the fan'snumber of revolutions, depending on theheat requirement (modulating operation),and ensures that the boiler quicklyachieves full output, as well as controllingreplenishment of the storage tanks.Due to the superb control with the'High-

Tech" Lambda Control, the size of thestorage tanks can be reduced - (seebelow), which contributes towards theattractive relationship between the priceand output of the finished installation.

Advantages with SOLO INNOVAwith Lambda Control - oxygencontrol

There are many advantages with theabovementioned, and here are a few ofthem:1. Fuel savings because the boiler

is permanently operating at itshighest efficiency.

2. Optimal environmentalfriendliness due to lowestemission in the wholecombustion sequence, also at apartial load

3. Greatest level of userfriendliness and operatingcomfort because LambdaControl does not demand newadjustment in the event of usingother kinds of wood and varyingmoisture contents.

4. Longer life-time due tocontrolled flame temperature andbecause the boiler reaches itsfull output more quickly.

5. Attractive relationshipbetween price and outputbecause the system is easy toinstall and operate, and becauseLambda Control enablesoperation with smaller storagetanks.

Filling up with fuel must only take placewhen the temperature of the storage tankis below 45°C, and the tanks can receiveheat. It is important not to put more fuel inthe boiler than can precisely bring theboiler and the storage tanks up to thecorrect temperature (approx. 90°C). It isimportant for both the boiler's lifetime andthe quality of the combustion that the fancan run without stopping, until there isonly charcoal left in the combustionchamber. At an outside temperatureabove 0°C, the combustion chamber mustonly be partially filled (e.g. 50% at +14°C)unless a storage tank larger than thesmallest one in the schedule below isconnected.

SOLO INNOVA LC withLambda Control,selection of storage tanksizeThe size of the storage tank is determinedby several conditions, amongst others:type of wood, moisture content, heatconsumption of the house, boiler size andthe interval which is desired betweeneach stoking.Lambda Control controls the boilerperfectly in all combustion phases. Thestorage tank has been calculated in therecommendation below, so that thestoking interval is always at least eighthours at an outside temperature of-5°C.At outdoor temperatures exceedingapprox. 0°C, the combustion chambermust only be partially filled (e.g. approx.50% at +14°C) unless a larger storagetank is connected.

Lambda Control in SOLO INNOVA LCcontrols the boiler absolutely perfectlyand provides much valuableinformation.

SOLO INNOVA LC must be installed inaccordance with BAXI's instructions.

Installation conditions:SOLO INNOVA must be installed in a room with anun-blockable, sufficient supply of fresh air. As theventilator creates a partial vacuum in thecombustion chamber, there are no specialrequirements as regards access to inhabitedrooms. Due to the door-friendly measurements,it is normally easy to bring the boiler into place.There are adjustment screws so that the boilercan quickly be brought level with the floor. Theboiler is so well insulated so that you need notreckon with very much heat emission in theboiler room.Cleaning is carried out from the front and fromthe back.

• The chimney draft must be 1.0-1.5 mmwater column (the Building Regulationsmust be followed).Connection to a heat storage tank isrequired.
