Why?

I chose this topic because I can relate closely due to past experience with domestic abuse and the fact that I am a woman. I feel very passionately about equal women’s rights. However, despite the fact that this is something that only benefits women, I find it fair because men caused it. It is also something people can’t put a name to, but they know it exists and I hope to raise awareness to those that are ignorant.

ResearchThe only thing I knew about this syndrome was simply what it actually meant. I had to start completely from scratch and some basic knowledge supplied to by my mother. Unfortunately the research process was a little frustrating. This is because Lenore Walker, an author and well known advocate for BWS is referenced and used so many times in other sources that it was hard to find other points of view. Not necessarily impossible, though. I learned a tremendous amount of information from this paper, and am now very informed when it comes to the topic of Battered Woman’s Syndrome and domestic violence, for that matter.

Solution

• Allow use of BWS in the legal system

• Benefits women and gay men

• Raises awareness for not only BWS but domestic violence

• Only seems fair for those suffering and mentally ill

AssignmentI personally loved the idea of writing a research paper and having a class that revolved around only writing said paper. I am a strong writer, especially when it comes to research assignments. I would rather write a lengthy research paper than take a test any day. I don’t think this assignment was too difficult, it challenged me at a good level and got me to think critically and analytically about my topic. Not only did the assignment do that, but it helped to improve my writing skills, which are very important.
