On Friday 10th
February our Annual School Swimming Carnival will be held at the Bathurst Aquatic
Centre. Children in years 3-6 as well as those children in Year 2 who are turning 8 this year and can
swim 50m unaided are eligible to attend. Tomorrow is predicted to be extremely hot. Children are
reminded to bring hats, sunscreen to apply throughout the day and plenty of water. Children who are
spectating and all children who have finished their swimming commitments by 11am will return to
school so as not to be exposed to the heat for any longer than necessary. Children who are competing
in other swimming events will remain at the pool, complete their events and return to school at
approximately 1pm. We invite all parents and friends to come and support tomorrow.
Bookpacks - Thank you to all the families who have already purchased their child’s/children’s
Bookpacks.
A friendly reminder to all school families, Bookpack fees are due now. Class teachers are eager to start
working in each key learning area book and require all children to have bookpacks.
Kindergarten Bookpacks are $30

if one is required. Orders will be accepted until Friday 24th

to order and pay for a jumper.

Advanced Life Photography again. Envelopes for school photos have been sent home last week. Please

to the office at school by Monday 20th
February. Please note ALL money goes directly to Advanced
Life Photography and is not processed by the school.
Parent/Teacher Interviews and Reporting: As a staff we continue to modify our Assessment and

A general reminder:-
All items of clothing and personal belongings should be clearly marked with your child’s
name.
All children require a broad brimmed hat each day as our school has a “No Hat, No Play”
policy.
When parents and friends come to the school during the day, they should present to the front
office on arrival. This is a Legal and Workplace Safety requirement and is followed for the
safety and security of all children and teachers.
We continue to encourage parents to make appointments to come and talk about your child’s
progress, problems that may arise, ideas etc. It is reminded that the education of your child is a
team effort with teachers and parents being the main stakeholders. With this in mind, it is an
important reminder that the parent/teacher relationship always needs to be cohesive and
supportive and one of mutual respect. I am sure we will continue to work with one another in a
positive manner.
All money coming to the school should be placed in a sealed envelope with your child’s name,
correct amount of money, class and what the money is for clearly written on the front. All
money should be sent directly to the front office at the school for processing.
Our School Newsletter will now be uploaded every Thursday so all parents receive information at the
same time. Please refer to our website to download the weekly newsletter.
If any parent has any concerns regarding any aspect of school life, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Online Payments
It is now possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students,
via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or
MasterCard credit or debit card, and can be made via computer, tablet or mobile phone. The payment
page is accessed from the front page of the schools website by selecting $ Make a payment.
This is a secure payment system hosted by Westpac to ensure that your credit/debit card details are
captured in a secure manner. These details are not passed back to the school.
Money and Notes
As all parents and children are aware, all money, when it comes to school for an event, goes directly to
the school office. This procedure is working well and we thank everyone for following this process.
When children and/or parents return permission notes to school, they also need to be taken to the
office. All notes will be collated and kept in the office and staff will pick up notes from the office after
the closing date. We are hoping this streamlines the process with notes.
School Contributions 2017
The Department of Education and Communities sets the contribution level. The funds are used to
purchase reading and maths materials for the benefit of all students. Without these contributions, we
are unable to provide resources of the highest quality that meet our expectations for your children.
Fees can be paid by sending cash or cheque in a sealed envelope with your child’s name, class and
School Fees written on it to the front office or by coming to the school and paying by cash, cheque or
EFTPOS. Fees can also be paid using POP. The fees are:
$50.00 (1 child)
$90.00 (2 children)
$120.00 (3 or more children)
In addition to the School Fees, each child is asked to pay a:
$15.00 levy for Technology (each child K-6)
$15 levy for resources
These levies will enable us to provide more software and classroom resources such as readers and
maths equipment for the children to use. We thank you for your invaluable contribution.
Once payment is made, the parent permission note MUST be returned to the school. All
payments and permission notes must be made and returned by the cut-off date on the note.
Payment for an activity does not give permission for a student to be involved so please
remember to send the permission note back immediately.
All permission notes returned must include the reference number that is given upon payment.
Booklink – Bathurst City Library
Booklink has begun for 2016-17!
It continues on through the year ending on the 31st July 2017. This programme aims to
encourage children to have lots of fun reading. Children between the ages of 1 - 17 can earn rewards for filling in a log of library books borrowed from Bathurst City Library.
Everyone who joins Booklink is a winner!
Everytime you complete a logbook you will receive a discount token for BooksPlus ABC Shop and a lucky dip prize. Logbooks are available at the library and here.
Things you need to know...
The books you read should be at your reading level
You need to be a member of the library to enrol in Booklink. Joining the library is FREE! Books recorded in your logbook should be books borrowed from
Bathurst Library. You may also record books read from your School Library or Daycare Centre on the back section of the logbook. Please do not record bought
books. There will be a BIG PARTY during Children's Book Week (3rd week in August) for all participants at the library and everyone receives a prize.
Overall winners receive special prizes from C.W.A. & BooksPlus.
LOST PROPERTY and CLOTHING POOL
Clothing Pool is open Tuesday & Friday mornings from 8.30am-9.00am. If this is inconvenient, please
ring me to arrange another time.
Most items are for sale for a $2 donation per item purchased. Occasionally we get some school dresses
and these will be sold for a $5 donation. All money collected goes back into the school for resources.
If your child has out-grown their uniforms, drop them into the school office and we will recycle them
for you.
The Lost property basket is now emptied of Logo jumpers and hats. Children can come to clothing pool
on Tuesday & Friday mornings with named items being returned to them.
So, please write your child's name clearly on all clothes.
Any unclaimed non-uniform/ non-logo items will be sent to charity at the end of the term.
For more information or to book a time call Liz Arrow on 0438 210 748.
Canteen News
The canteen is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday &
Friday.
The ‘Department of Education’ and ‘Healthy Canteen Association’ are currently updating
the ‘Nutrition in Schools Policy’, their main focus is looking at salt & sugar content and
serving sizes. Whilst the policy is not fully completed, BPS P&C and BPS Staff see the
importance of healthy eating choices for children, for this reason we have made some
changes to the menu.
We will no longer have:
Chips
Chicken burgers
New to the menu:
Pasta salad
Frozen pineapple rings
Crunchy salad cups – (containing seasonal cut up fruit & vegetables)
Please note: when this policy is completed there may be other recommended changes,
eg. currently we have left vegemite sandwiches on the menu, but this item may be
deleted in the future due to the salt content.
The P&C value the suggestions and opinions of students, parents and staff, if you have
any suggestions or questions in regard to the canteen please either attend the next P&C
meeting or place a note in the canteen slot.
Flexi-schools
Don’t forget flexi-schools is a convenient way to place your order. Go to
www.flexischools.com.au for more information and to register.
Volunteers
Thank you to all the volunteers who have helped on the canteen in previous years and
remember we are always looking for new volunteers, so contact the school or Heather on
6331 3275 if you are able to help.

Canteen FAQ’s
What days are the canteen open?
The canteen is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday for all recess and lunch
needs.
How do I order from the canteen?
There are 2 ways you can order:
1. You can order through ‘Flexischools’ on-line. This is our preferred method (saves
our valuable volunteers time manually counting and sorting).
2. You can put your name, class, order and money in a paper bag and place it in the
canteen slot before 9am.
What food choices are there?
The canteen complies with the ‘Nutrition in Schools’ policy and promotes healthy eating.
Our menu is coloured coded to help with choices.
Everyday foods are marked with a green tick and can be found under the green
headings, these are the recommended choices.
Sometimes foods can be found under the orange headings.
Occasional foods / treats can be found under the red headings.
We have also included daily maximum recommendations on some items to help when
making choices.
How do I collect my recess order?
There is a special line marked ‘Recess Orders’, once dismissed from class, go there to
receive your order.
What if I didn’t order recess?
There is a limited supply of hot food available at the canteen. Line up at the un-marked
window to be served. Snacks and drinks are also available – see menu for choices.
How do I collect my lunch order?
Your class teacher will either send students to collect the class basket or you will be
sent individually. If you ordered frozen items you will need to return to the canteen to
collect them at 2nd half lunch.
What can I buy at lunch time?
You can purchase snacks, drinks, or frozen items at the canteen- see menu for choices –
all hot food, sandwiches & salads must be ordered.
What if I forgot to order?
If you have your order, take it to the canteen ASAP and the Canteen Manager will try
and fill the order or give you an alternative.
What if I don’t have any recess or lunch?
Tell either your teacher or the ladies at the front office.
What if I didn’t get my order?
Sometimes mistakes happen, go directly to the canteen and line up at the window
marked ‘Recess’ and the Canteen Manager will try and fill your order or give you an
alternative.
Sometimes the canteen can ran out of an item. These will be marked ‘out of stock’ on
‘Flexischools’, however if you have placed an order through the canteen slot, the
Canteen Manager will contact you and arrange an alternative, most items are priced the
same or similar so it is easy to make a change.
How do I volunteer at the canteen?
This is simple, either ring Heather on 6331 3275 or visit her at the Canteen to arrange
a day that suits you. Don’t forget if you can not commit to a full day, help is always
appreciated around lunch time, 12 to 1.
How do I become involved in the canteen decisions?
The easiest way is to attend the P&C meetings and nominate to join /support the
Canteen Committee or phone Heather on 6331 3275 or leave a message at the front
office and a member of the committee will contact you.
