Thursday, 3rd May 2018 Term 2 Week 1
Dear Parents,
I hope everyone had a wonderful, restful holiday. Term 2 is bound to be very busy with many events
planned.
Congratulations to the four Rugby League Teams that
competed at the Richardson/Peachey Shield yesterday.
A great day was had by all. A special congratulations to
our Years 3/4 Boys who won the Richardson Shield. Our
Year 3/4 boys will now head to Dubbo later in the term
to play in the next level of the Richardson Shield.A
special thank you to Mr Kelly, Miss Miller, Mr
MacPherson and Mr Corey Reynolds who coached the
teams, and to the many parents who came along and
supported us. Super work everyone.
Thankyou to the many children and teachers who represented our school at the ANZAC Day March
during the holidays, and to the parents who also came along to support us. Well done to Abby Price
and Savannah Mahoney who played with the RSL Youth Marching Band and to the children who
marched as part of the Guides and Scouts. It is always wonderful to have our school represented at this
extremely important occasion.
Congratulations to our boys that attended the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships at the end of last
term. Well done Angus, Oliver, Logan, Lachlan and Kai. They all swam incredibly well.

Bathurst Public School will again host a Biggest
Morning Tea to support the Cancer Council.
Thursday 24th May from 11.00am-11.40am.
Stage 3 students will be setting up food stalls and there will be tea and
coffee available for adults. Parents, Teachers and Students will be able to
enjoy morning tea together whilst listening to talented buskers from
Stage 2 and 3.
To make this a successful fundraiser, we are asking students in Stage 2
and Stage 3 to provide a plate of food to be sold, e.g. biscuits, muffins,
cupcakes etc. These can be taken to the Staff Room before school on
Thursday 24th May.
We hope you can join us for Morning Tea on Thursday 24th May at 11:00am.

Rugby League Peachey Cup / Richardson Shield
Yesterday, Bathurst Public School participated in the annual Rugby League Peachey Cup / Richardson
Shield at the brand new St Pat’s facility on Hereford St. Our school was represented with a record 4
teams. It must be said that each of these teams played and represented our school in a tremendous
manner. The players themselves were treated to the whole Penrith Panthers NRL Squad coming and
watching them play, which in itself, is an experience they will never forget.
Yr 5 & 6 Boys: Koby Beecham, Evan Jaques, Angus Café, Ben Everitt-Foran, Oliver Gumpert, Kaleb
Holman, Mac Hutchings, Jacob Lamb, Boston Reynolds & Greyson Rozga.
These boys played 3 games of high quality Rugby League and should be extremely proud of their
efforts. We won our first 2 games convincingly against Holy family & Perthville. Jacob Lamb and
Greyson Rozga played exceptional football in these two games. Unfortunately, in our final game we
couldn’t capitalise on early chances and ended up losing, which ultimately cost us a spot in the semi-
finals. These boys should be extremely proud of their effort and once again represented our school
tremendously on and off the field.
Yr 5 & 6 Girls: Ashleigh Ball, Phoebe Connors, Mimi Taylor Jemmia Luck, Bonny Campiao, Faith
Ryder, Evie Goninan, Kristina D’quino, Sophie Lindsay, Mia McClements & Tiaani Bijelic Yesterday
the Year 5/6 Girls Rugby League team participated in the Peachey Shield in a non-competitive
division. The girls played 3 games against the Holy Family team, winning all games convincingly!
Being only their second time playing a full contact sport, the girls tackled hard in defence and used
their speed and wit in attack. The girls had a combined score across the three games of 24 tries to 5.
Mr Kelly has worked very hard with these girls to prepare them for yesterday and it showed on the
field as they displayed great Rugby League knowledge and sportsmanship. Congratulations girls, you
should all be very proud of yourselves and continue to pursue your footy careers!
Yr 3 & 4 Boys (Team 1): Buster Goninan, Blake Fulthorpe, Connor Hobby, Lachlan McClements,
Hudson Reynolds, Henri Gumpert, Pierson O’Dwyer, Jaxon Ballinger, Cooper Naylor & Aemon West.
We are the Champions! A huge congratulations to these Year 3 and 4 boys for winning the whole
Richardson Shield tournament! For the majority of this team, it was their very first time representing
BPS on the sporting field and I am sure they will never forget it. Qualifying for the semi-finals itself
was a huge achievement for these boys but to then go on and convincingly win the Semi against Holy
Family and then ultimately win the Grand Final against St Phil’s was extraordinary. Well done boys!
Everybody at BPS is extremely proud of you all. I’m sure this is the first of many sporting
championships to come.
Yr 3 & 4 Boys (Team 2): Jaxon Ballinger, Rylan Beecham, Charlie Fischbeck, Max Lamb, Cooper
Naylor, Will Pheils, Henri Gumpert, Charlie Turnbull, Isaac Turnell & Jake Webster.
A great day was had for our BPS Year 3/4 (Team 2) Rugby League Team. Everyone enjoyed
themselves throughout the day and played with outstanding sportsmanship.
We came up against a fast and strong Holy Family team first and the boys tackled and passed really to
grind out a 4-4 draw. Playing Kelso Public second, our team played well together with everyone
making tackles and several players crossing the line for a try including Jake Webster who got his first
ever try in Rugby League, the whole team was ecstatic for Jake. The BPS team, came away 7-4
winners. Our third game was against a 'non-competitive' St. Phils team, who were mostly playing
contact sport for their first time. Our BPS Year 3/4 team showed their great sportsmanship and
encouragement for the other team as both teams enjoyed the game together. Although it was a 'non
competitive' game, we came away 8-0 winners with sportsmanship and Rugby League the real winners
of this game. The fourth and final game of the day was the hardest of all, coming up against a strong
St. Phils team. It was a fast and hard game played by both teams, unfortunately we could never get in
the lead and the game could not decide a winner as it ended 2-2.
An outstanding performance from everyone who played in the BPS Year 3/4 (Team 2) team on the
day, unfortunately missing out on the finals by 2 tries.
Thank you to Eglinton Eels Junior Rugby League Football Club for allowing our Year 3 & 4 teams to
borrow the playing jerseys. Unfortunately, our brand new junior BPS sporting jerseys did not arrive in
time for yesterday’s tournament.

[email protected] to let us know if you can assist.
BBQ helpers – come to the front of the school from 7am.
Stall helpers – come to McMullen Hall just before 9am.
MEET OUR NEW CANTEEN MANAGER
We would like express our appreciation to Heather Kimbel who managed the
P&C canteen so efficiently for the last six years. We would also like to introduce Caroline Kelly
who became our new manager this week!
Hi my name is Caroline and I am delighted to be filling the role of
Canteen Manager at BPS. I have been part of the school
community for a few years now with my girls in Year 3. (Where
does the time go??)
I look forward to speaking with students, parents/carers and
staff about all topics related to food (my favourite subject!). If
you can spare a few minutes, pop into the canteen, I'd love to
hear your suggestions. If you can spare an hour or two, come
and volunteer, it is well worth your time to see the smiles on your
children's faces.
MAY P&C MEETING
The May P&C meeting will be held on:
Wednesday 16th May 2018
When: 7pm Where: School staff room. All welcome!
