    THISWEEK

    MONDAY GAMES

    Gisborne v Golden Square

    Castlemaine v Strathfieldsaye

First half sets up Roo win

KANGAROO Flat evened upits season to a one win-oneloss record following an em-phatic 38-point victory overEaglehawk on Saturday.

Te inaccuracy whichplagued the Roos in roundone was evident at Canter-bury Park in the first half, but in its favour the Roosdefence completely shutdown the Hawks attack inthe opening two terms.

Very few sides which kick1.2 in the opening two quar-

ters of a match which is allEaglehawk managed areheaded for a win.

And with Hunter Lloydand Jarryd Wiegard in con-trol of Flats back half, RhysHealey (six goals) and CoreyGreer (three) snared the ma-jors which handed the Roosthe four premiership points.

Te Hawks did land sevengoals to five in the secondhalf. But theyd started thesecond half 53 points downand only managed to slashthe ultimate margin to 38points as the Roos coasted to

victory - 13.17 (95) to 8.9 (57).Te Roos started in similarfashion to week one. From10 scoring shots they man-

aged 3.7 in the first quarterwith an across-the-groundbreeze difficult to manageon an otherwise perfect au-

    tumn day.Te Flat midfield headed

by Greer and om Holman, aided by pacy wingers SamMaddern and Ash Benbow, hardly allowed the ball intothe Hawks front half.

Marty Kelly was a revela-tion for the Roos. His pos-session count was in doublefigures by quarter-time andalthough it took the Roos 18minutes to land their firstmajor, they were 17 points upby the first change

While Eaglehawk did notadd to its score in the sec-

ond term, the Roos put thefinal result beyond reach byadding 5.6 at the SimpsonsRoad end.

Eaglehawks field kickingwas atrocious. Four timesbefore the long break Hawksplayers booted the ball out-of-bounds on the full downthe grandstand wing. Teyalso consistently missedteam-mates who were inthe clear with appalling chipkicks, handing the ball backto Roo opponents.

Hawks key forward CamMcGlashan shone in thethird term. He hammeredhome two goals in two min-utes, the second a ripperfrom a 52 metre set shot.

    But the Roos got going

again in the final quarteradding 5.2 to Eaglehawksfour straight goals. Healeywas unstoppable, addingthree majors with his fifth a long shot from the score-board flank boundary at theSimpsons Road end - as im-pressive as McGlashans inthe third term.

Roos coach Jason Stevenssaid it was good to atone forthe round one loss with a winat Eaglehawk.

Its always hard to winat Canterbury Park, but wewere confident with the 22

we had. And we realise wevegot a bit of strength to comeback into the side as well,Stevens said.

FINE GAME:Kangaroo Flat's Tom Holman, who was one

of the Roos' best players, dishes off a handball.

READY TO POUNCE:Kangaroo Flat's Mitch Hough and

Eaglehawk's Tyler Miles eye off possession of the ball.

SAFE HANDS:Kangaroo Flat's Jarryd Wiegard marks

under pressure from Eaglehawk's Brendan Tanner.

Its alwayshard to win atCanterbury Park, but we wereconfident withthe 22 we hadJason Stevens
