The Bastrop Chamber of Commerce Mission StatementThe mission of the Bastrop Chamber of Commerce is to improve the economy of Bastrop and thereby,
the quality of life for all its citizens through economic, community, and leadership development.
Bastrop IS special…and this year’s Lost Pines Christmas cel-ebration Dec. 8 through 11 will once again demonstrate the point.
The community is pulling out all stops to celebrate the season and to welcome visitors to one of Texas’ most historic places, a National Trust “Distinctive Destination”, a Texas Certified “Scenic City” and home of the famous “Lost Pines”, a heritage that lives on despite the massively damaging September fires.
Over the course of four days, more than 20 community orga-nizations, local businesses and churches will be hosting cumula-tively more than 30 activities in this annual event: n The visual arts: check out extraordinary local artists in the Art Guild’s Winter Market and Show daily. Or tour the nearby Deep in the Heart Art Foundry—one of a handful of foundries in the U.S. capable of casting monu-mental bronzes—where you can observe the lost wax bronze cast-ing process and see work by inter-nationally acclaimed metal sculp-tors. Downtown, look about for the many FestiviTrees, “green” Christmas trees handcrafted of recycled and repurposed materi-als…then vote for your favorite!n The performing arts and other sheer delights: Delight in choral and instrumental music performances and concerts daily at several venues in and around the historic downtown area. The historic Bastrop Opera House and the Wilhelm Center for the Performing Arts will host a full schedule of both dramatic and musical presentations; the Upstart
M e d i a C e n t e r weighs in with two filmfests.n T h e l i g h t s f a n t a s -tic: Stroll along the Colorado River each evening as it trans-forms into a glittering River of Lights; savor the annual light-ing of the County Christmas tree (and songfest) on the Courthouse lawn on Friday; see small town Texas sparkle with the more than 125 entries in the annual Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday.n A step across the thresh-old into history: Visit six of Bastrop’s historical structures, treasures each, decked out in holiday finery during the annual Holiday Homes Tour on Saturday. Or simply stroll or drive the his-toric neighborhoods adjacent to downtown Bastrop. Their unique Victorian and Craftsman-style homes form a roster of more than 130 historic Bastrop struc-tures on the National Register of Historic Places. Plan a stop by the Museum and Visitor Center, both downtown, to get a glimpse of Bastrop’s essential role in the settlement of Texas, the War for Texas Independence, the found-ing of the Republic and the march toward statehood.n Shopping and dining: The welcome mat is out when historic, picturesque downtown Bastrop—one of the most successfully revi-talized Victorian era downtowns in Texas—becomes a massive street market on Saturday, and
local merchants, specialty shops and restaurants greet visitors with holiday treats and a warm welcome at their special open houses. “Shop, rock and stroll” downtown throughout the week-end, with extended hours for most shops and restaurants and several hours of open-air musical enter-tainment in the heart of down-town at 921 Main. n Into nature: The Colorado River and McKinney Roughs offer unique experiences in central Texas making outdoor recreation a must, whether walking, hiking, biking, kayaking, canoeing, raft-ing, horseback riding, camping or stargazing.
The weekend—expected to draw thousands of visitors to Bastrop as in years past—is the collaborative work of local busi-nesses, organizations and churches and is spearheaded by the City of Bastrop’s Main Street Program. According to Nancy Wood, pro-gram director, “At the heart of the matter is the reality of Bastrop—an amazing history, an appreciation for its architectural and commer-cial roots, a bustling downtown with excellent dining and special-ized shopping, and a citizenry that is renowned for the warmth of its welcome.”
“While there’s much to cele-brate on a continuing basis, the Lost Pines Christmas weekend brings together in a very real way all that vitality and warmth and, in the process, creates some new memories to warm your heart all year.”
