SUMMARY*Diatom merupakan protista chromalveolata dari
kelompok Stramenopila.
*Diatom merupakan organisme autotrof sehingga digolongkan sebagai fitoplankton yang berfotosintesis mengubah CO2 menjadi O2.
*Diatom memiliki peranan ekologi sebagai produsen primer.
*Menurunnya populasi diatom dapat mempengaruhi rantai makanan organisme perairan.
*Jika populasi diatom menurun maka dapat mengakibatkan terakumulasinya CO2 dalam perairan.
*Terakumulasinya CO2 dapat meningkatkan keasaman perairan dan berdampak pada global warming.
