The aim of this ebook is to provide an explanation of the SAP Best Practices Baseline package.

  • 2The architecture of SAP Best Practices and the areas of major content related improvementslaunched in the new version of the Baseline Package are presented in this ebook.

  • 3 The aim of the new Baseline is to create a universal Baseline package applicable for all countries and regions. These new Baseline packages consist of the following layers: the layer 0, the foundation layer and the baseline library layer.

The layer 0 frames basic settings - for example, the chart of accounts. The foundation layercontains more detailed settings from different areas: MM, SD, etc. The layer 0 and part of thefoundation layer constitute the common basis of a Best Practices package. The last layer, the Baseline library, contains settings for the pick-and-choose approach. This new approach of the Baseline enables the implementation of several industries in one client.

The industry packages are positioned on top of the Baseline. Another package type whichused on top of a Baseline package or Industry package are the Cross-Industry packages.

  • 4Building Block Architecture:Entry Level Scopes

This slide represents the building block architecture in detail: The first layer of blocks is calledlayer 0 and contains basic settings, e.g. the organizational structure or the chart of accounts.

The next layer: layer 1 or foundation layer contains more detailed settings in the areas of Manufacturing, Service, Trade and FI. In the last layer: layer 2 or Baseline library you can find even more detailed settings for these 3 areas. A combination of all layer 0 blocks, all layer 1 block of a particular area and selected blocks of layer 2 of the corresponding area comprisethe entry level of trade, manufacturing, service and finance accordingly. These entry levelscopes can be changed depending on your needs - you can select additional scenario blocksor deselect scenarios.
